Q Update on my initial LS diagnosis and question about pant liners.

Hi, I was diagnosed with LS back in Nov 2017. I was given clobetsal by my gyno and that was it!. Thanks to this group, I learned a lot about self care. I did see a vulva specialist, yesterday, who treats other LS patients. Hallelujah!! She took me off of the clob and prescribed Triamcinolone Acetone ointment 1%. I apply every day, for a month and every other day, thereafter. I go back in 4 months. The goal is that I go down to once a week and then only as needed. I have a mild case of LS, mostly near the perineal area. I thought my clitorus was gone, but its not. I have some minor loss of the left side of my inner labia. She actually took pictures and showed them to me. That was uncomfortable to look at. I know this post is long, but this is the first time in a long time, that I don't feel a sense of hopelessness. Yes, I will always have LS, but perhaps, along with my doctor and changes in my new normal, I may be able to keep it from getting worse. I only have one question. She said I should stop wearing my Poise pads!! Those are my safety net for those little accidents. That is going to be hard to break that habit. How can I use the coconut oil or any other oil and not stain my panties? What if I sneeze and accidentally pee my pants? What else can I use??? Thank you for reading.

Hi Angela, that's great news!!! I'm very similar to you. I know we messaged each other before a few months back. At my 2nd Dermatology/Vulval Clinic a couple of weeks ago, I was told my LS is well-controlled and to carry on with what I've been doing. She did say she wanted me to use Clob still, only once a week, but I don't have a problem with that. I still use Vagifem tablets internally x2, Ovestin cream externally x3 a week, borax once or twice a week, but use olive oil most days, throughout the day. I use the pharmaceutical grade one because I don't like the peppery smell of the supermarket ones, and do think it's been great for improving my vulva overall. Many women swear by it. I still have tightness around the perineum area even though no white anymore, and am seeing a gynaecologist soon to discuss possible surgery. But, like you, the initial diagnosis was a huge blow i'm sure, but many women manage it okay, and life carries on. Regarding the panty liners, I never use any, only cotton briefs, so can't advise on an alternative, but I do use olive oil after my 2 daily showers, and just wash my briefs on a hot wash, no problem. Good luck and take care Angela x

Hi there, why not purchase some 'period pants' or wear two pairs of pants at once in case of an accident.  I think she is correct in that those pads contain chemicals.

Hi yourself 😀, I could look into that as an option. I did find some pads that were 100% cotton, not incontinence, but that is ok. A lot of times, I don't feel like have control over certain things in my life. Wearing those pads gave me some control. I'll figure it out. Thanks!!

Thank you for your helpful information.  Are you down to the once  week now?  continued success.  Did the Doctor have any idea why this has become such a monumental problem for so many, any clue that attributes to the condition?

Continued good luck and thank you for this info.

Hi, I just started on a new regimen after seeing a specialist. She believes that for me, my LS could have been triggered from an autoimmune disorder. I think that is the diagnosis for most of us. I am still somewhat shocked with having this condition, but after being a part of this forum, there are so many who have it much worse than me, so I'm trying to be thankful for what I do have and go from there😊

I do take Clobetasol only for a short time after my flare up has calmed down then Tecrolimus every other day while calm. During my flare up l use an equal amount of Nystatin cream and Hydrocortissone. This has worked for me. But the best thing l find is keeping the area very clean. I wash with a white washcloth and ivory soap after evey time l use the bathroom. And l have learned to buy underware that is vented to keep the area cooler,as heat aggravate the LS. l wear loose jammies or a gown with no underwear. I live by myself so ulgy underwear is not a problem. I understand why pads would cause a problem at least for me. I see your need for the linners so my suggestion is wear the thinnest pads and change often, wash area well and keep dry and let air in as often as you can. Hope some of this helps.

Yes, it does, Jenken. I was able to find all cotton liners from Amazon. They are not as thick as even the thinist Poise pads, but I'm good with that. I have always changed my pads often, but I know that if I choose to keep wearing them, (mostly at work) that I get the ones that are cotton, just like panties. Maybe I can eventually stop wearing them, just not today😞. I'm afraid of having an accident.

you can use a menstrual cup. Personally I haven’t used one but my niece does. You’ll have to google it, it helps saves the environment at the same time saving you money 😃😃😃

    Hello angela

if you are worried about leakage you can wear period cotton pants. The brand I use in the UK are called diary doll pants. I’ve checked and they sell them on our amazon. ( To anybody that lives in the UK they sell them in boots under the maternity range, if you are clever you could buy them using your points offers)

the pants are 2 pairs of pants sewn together with water proof lining. They have an extra wide gusset, so if you leak on your panty liner, the pants will protect your clothing and gives you time to get to the toilet to change. Great for sleeping in if you have a heavy flow. You can wash them in the machine and personally I don’t tumble dry to make the lining last longer. They are quite pretty and the plain black ones match any black bra.

personally I use these for incontenance, I haven’t got a major problem but they give me less stress if I am going any where I don’t know where the toilets. Driving long distance, and especially flying when you can’t use the loo.

    hope this helps 😃

Hi, avoid Panty liners like the plaque....They will make you sweaty, no air or thru breeze so to speak & they will cause a bacterial / fungal infection....trust me, i speak from experience, The infection was worse than the LS, my groin was Post Box red raw, sore, i couldn't sit or stand it was horrendous, by the time i got to see my GP it was day's later & by then even worse, just what you need to smother yourself in Daktarin fungal powder & medication, which took around 10 days to clear up.  They are a defo NO from me.
