That's what I used to do when I was taking Ramipril,  I haven't heard of aching joints with it but I had to stop taking it because it caused a dry cough.

I now take Bisoprolol, Bendroflumethiazide and Losartan and, finally, my BP is under control!

    Good luck Rob

Mrsmop might I ask why you stopped taking ramipril?

Only I have been asked to take it and have been put off by the side effects.

Am on bisop 3.75 and digoxin 1.25 and know that ramipril increases the effectiveness of these meds. but BP is 133/82 average over last six months and pulse ranges 60-75

Hi Bill, I stopped because of the cough that it caused.

I was put on Bisoprolol first and worked up to a daily dose of 10mg, they then added in the Ramipril for about 6 months, and changed it to Bendroflumethiazide.  It is only recently I have had to have the Losartan too and now my BP is 120/70 a lot of the time, which is very low for me!

Your BP doesn't seem very high for them to be adding in another drug.

Try not to worry Rob and come back here if you need some tea and sympathy, or to bounce any ideas off us!!

If the Ramipril is causing your aching joints, have you told your GP?  There are dozens of alternatives that can be used, so perhaps you might benefit from changing but maybe when the Bisoprolol has settled down.

You might find that your anziety will lessen when you have been on these drugs for a while.  They slow you down!

As mrsmop said try and relax (easier said than done I know) music helps me.

How has ramipril reduced your BP?

Try beetroot (juice) water melon .They act in different ways but have worked for me

There was a piece in the series Trust me I'm a Doctor, wheere they tried 3 groups of men on beetroot, water melon and I forget the other thing.  The beetroot [every day] produced a BP reduction of something like 10%

Thanks mrsmop I saw that programme but missed the conclusion as I had to take a phone call and then forgot to catch it on iplayer

I eat/drink beetroot 3weeks out of 4. It does help reduce BP I am convinced

       I like it anyway

I eat beetroot too but I can't say I have noticed any reduction in addition to what the pills do.

I have been going overboard with porridge though, unadulterated, with no salt/sugar and my cholesterol has come down a lot.  It was 8.2 as is now 7.  Maybe that will help the BP too!

The 'other thing' was garlic - raw I think. There has been a lot of chat on this site about the benefits of beetroot, garlic and water melon after that TV programme. I seem to remember that the best of the 3 in reducing BP was beetroot, but lots of people here swear by garlic as well.

mrsmop - was "the other thing" garlic?  That might have been a different programme I saw as they mentioned beetroot, cerely and garlic.

Ha ha, there's me thinking it was some obscure thing that I had never thougt of!

I remember the garlic now, it definitiely wasn't celery.

And I guess the water melon was included because it is a diuretic.
