Random throbbing head pain and pressure in right side

Posted , 138 users are following.

For over a month now, I've had an infrequent throbbing pain & pressure on the right side of head. It appears randomly, and occurs much more frequently when I'm stressed. Although, when I feel fine it will still appear, just not as frequently.  It's always on the right side of my head, near the top but will occasionally be at the back of my head too. I will feel it every single time when I wake up, without fail. That's the only time I can guarantee it'll be felt.

I've had a CT scan done a few weeks ago which came out completely clear. I was thinking that it was my sinuses acting up, so I went to an ENT (Ear Nose & Throat) specialist, but they couldn't find anything wrong.

I don't know what else it could possibly be. I'm starting to think that it may be my neck, but I'm not entirely sure ...

Anyway, here's a summary:

* Throbbing in head on the right side

* Infrequent (appears at random)

* Appears every day

* Brings my mood down completely whenever it occurs

* Had a CT scan; was completely clear

* Sinuses are completely fine, and are clear

Please help.

I've just been to a chiropractor this morning as I felt sure the headaches I was getting were to do with my neck. She's checked me thoroughly, done some manipulation and acupuncture. One visit isn't hoping to cure it but it's worth a try.

There's a type of headache caused by neck problems. Sorry, can't remember name but as everything else is clear with you it might be worth investigating.

Also look at everything you eat---not something triggering headaches? I get migraines after the tiniest amount of coffee, alcohol, chocolate, pineapple, ginger, any spices. And I mean the tiniest amount--a1/4 inch piece of pineapple put me in bed for 24 hours.

Hey there. I was in tremendous pain all on the left side of my face. It turned out to be a wisdom tooth that needed to be removed but I had to go through the pain for a month. I had a bad toothache so I went to my dentist and they took xrays.. turns out I have an impacted bottom left wisdom tooth (growing in sideways).

I have been experiencing the exact same thing and symptoms. And if has had me really worried as my Father not so long ago passed away from Brain Cancer. I have been to the doctors before about it. They told me that it sounds like my sinuses and I was given a nasal spray for this. It worked a little bit and cleared for a few months but in the last couple of weeks it been really bothering me. I have not been back to the doctors because I am I am to scared after my father. So I am just wondering to please see if yur symptoms are still occurring? And if not how have they disappeared. I feel like they come on more when im sitting at a computer or really concentrating so It could possibly be my neck or bad back? I would greatly appreciate your feedback from your experiences because it is getting me worried. And glad to hear your CT was clear.

I have potentially the same thing.

No pressure behind my eye though.and i'm having diffeculty connecting it with stress. Although it may be connected. I dont feel stressed much at the moment.

    My symptoms are.

+Dull throb on the right hand side of my head at the back, more toward the top.

    +Happens almost every day, randomly.

+Sometimes it is for 1 minute sometimes for an hour+

+ Has been going on for over a month now

I went to the doctor, I was reassured that it is unlikley to be a tumor for the following reasons:

    +Normally tumors don't cause headaches.

    + No vomiting

    +No change in personallity.

    +No weight Loss.

    +No dizzyness

+No pressure inside my eyeballs (Doc shon a light into my eye to check out my retena, this is how they check the pressure apparently)

I wouldnt say no to a scan. I am about to go on holiday for 12 days and if it is still a problem I will re book and ask for one. If this happens i'll post my result here.

I am also keeping a headache diary on my phone. I suggest you do the same.

    Regards,

When My CT scan came back clear I decided to try not to let it bother me. And it is getting a little better. I have noticed some things that flair it up. First Caffeine really aggravates it. The more coffee I drink the worse it gets. And Alcohol too. I have noticed that when I have not eaten for many hours that I feel the best, it seems to surge a bit right after I eat. I keep checking my blood sugar but it shows normal.

My headache has stopped the last 9 days. Perhaps it was stress as this last 9 days I have been on holiday. But also my diet has completely changed so could be that also, even pollution levels of London compared to Barbados! Will be interesting to see if it resumes when I'm back in the UK.

Stress surely affects. I was having exams last week and studying whole nights and the pain got worst. It was like my head was receiving higher atmospheric pressure. also i have noticed sleeping well and drinking lots of water also helps.

Anyone ever figure out what this is? I have been having similar symptoms for a couple of months now. Mild ache on right side of head only and fullness in my right ear. The aching sometimes feels like a pinch and sometimes like a burning or stabbing. It is never severe, just annoying but it is there everyday.

I didn't realize until now how many there are of us having the same symptoms. I thought I was just being a ninny. I went to my MD and he prescribed an anti inflammatory and nasal spray. But I am certain it is not nasal congestion. I'm a nurse, I work nights and I did notice it started when I didn't get enough sleep and I really had a hard time at work. So I thought stress was causing it, I didn't go to work for a week to rest. But it randomly appears and I'm afraid when it comes back, like I feel I'll never have a moment of clarity in my mind anymore because of the nagging pain. Like others have said, it's not severe, but enough to annoy me and interfere with work. My MD said it wasn't a tumor, but I really wanted a CT or MRI done. I shall see what happens when I go back a couple weeks from now.

Likewise with most descriptions on this thread; like you though I thought I was being a bit of a softie for worrying at all. I'm 41 basically never had a headache in my life Barr hangovers or impacts. Had my ear nose and throat checked out but all clear. I do react badly to insect bites and I believe I am developing a caffeine intolerance (despite my love of coffee chocolate and cola). So ! Soon I am to go for allergy testing as here in Germany you need no referral by gp to see a specialist but an appointment may take a week or two. I'm interested whether too little sleep and water intake is something to do with it? I have already begun improving water intake and sleeping more appropriately. Please check out symptoms of caffeine allergy/ intolerance.

i would bet somewhere here we all have a common link.

Here is a very outlandish  yet  compelling thought (IMO)I had while researching.

coffee is 20 times stronger and more effective than pesticides used in the agriculture industry (so I read)

Being very susceptible to swelling after certain insect bites, could there be a link between what's going on in the body as our blood contains insect contaminants, whatever gets into our blood from coffee and the subsequent behavior of our immune systems?.

This head ache right side high has had an impact on my work too and at times I feel a bit dizzy although not frequent it does disturb me as I work with potentially dangerous materials and machines. If anything strikes a chord at all please ! I'd like to hear your thoughts.
