Ranitidine - silent reflux

Hi

After months of a bitter taste, sore burning tongue and constant mucous/throat clearing, I was prescribed Ranitidine along with Gaviscon.

I've altered my diet, cut out dairy and all the negative foods such as tomatoes, onions etc

My question is could there be something I'm missing?

What I mean is, a lot of the time these days my symptons are ok - they only rate a 1 or 2 out of 10 but then all of a sudden - BAM! It's like I'm still eating something that is reacting with me and causing the bitter taste/sore, dry tongue......

I've started using almond milk as I was struggling to find anything to drink except water. A few days after staring the almond milk I though I would give muesli a try - I've not had it since this reflux all started back in November. Within 10 minutes my tongue is burning and sore and I have a horrible bitter 'paracetomal' like taste in my mouth. Would the acid be caused so quickly? What could be in muesli that causes such a reaction?!

Or could it be that the Ranitidine is not working and that I need to try something else?

I'm fed up with this - it's taking over my life.

sad

for the last year ive had a lump in my throat, had it checked with the ENT and they said probably silent reflux or anxiety.  i seem to alternate between either a lump in the throat, or a horrible taste that last for ages at a time.  recently i thought i had oral thrush, my mouth just felt horrible, white tongue and a burning sensation in the tongue and throat.  oral thrush treatment didnt help.  out of desperation i tried a gaviscon tablet, i have a history of reflux, but i cant say i feel the typical burn feeling that often.  the gaviscon tablet really did take the bad taste away very quickly!!  looks like ill be revisiting the doc and see if something better can be done. just didnt imagine silent reflux could make my mouth taste so bad!

me too. i was recently diagnosed i am still working on my diet. i was prescribed zantac for 3 mths which is for heartburn. it helped very little. i take ginger root vitamin, ginger tea, you would benefit from a daily probiotic.,i still drink coffee. somedays somethings will completely set it off not sure what is triggering it yet. but my question is why zantac if my problem wasnt heartburn to begin with. ranitidine is for heartburn. pepcid is an antiacid. those are 2 different things really. but if i have heartburn which ya get with GERD i would take zantac but what i have is LPR which is stomach acid going into the throat area RIGHT. so i should have been subscribed pepcid or some other anti-acid. what do u think.,cause i havent taken it for a weekor little more and things arent really that different when i was taken it other than my diet and i am still having issues just not as much that constant foul taste has subsided mainly but it comes back about lets say 3-4 times a week. but it goes away.
