Ranitidine - silent reflux

Hi
After months of a bitter taste, sore burning tongue and constant mucous/throat clearing, I was prescribed Ranitidine along with Gaviscon.
I've altered my diet, cut out dairy and all the negative foods such as tomatoes, onions etc
My question is could there be something I'm missing?
What I mean is, a lot of the time these days my symptons are ok - they only rate a 1 or 2 out of 10 but then all of a sudden - BAM! It's like I'm still eating something that is reacting with me and causing the bitter taste/sore, dry tongue......
I've started using almond milk as I was struggling to find anything to drink except water. A few days after staring the almond milk I though I would give muesli a try - I've not had it since this reflux all started back in November. Within 10 minutes my tongue is burning and sore and I have a horrible bitter 'paracetomal' like taste in my mouth. Would the acid be caused so quickly? What could be in muesli that causes such a reaction?!
Or could it be that the Ranitidine is not working and that I need to try something else?
I'm fed up with this - it's taking over my life.

Oats in your stomach become very acidic, lemon in nature is acidic but in stomach is very alkaline. Read books about Acid-alkaline diet. Most people with western diet have acidic ph, they just do not know yet. More stress come it will act on.

People mention about PH 8.8 water where can you buy it from I live in Australia, I have been having lump in throat for over a year, got on nexium 40 mg was a bit better but only take it when I need, had really bad sinus issues but I also had that lump in throat feeling, I think it was LPR or silent reflux, heard that nexium wont help silent refux and you need to take gaviscon advance, I have had all the first 4 symptoms in the last few months as mentioned by Dr. Christopher Chang (found this on the internet)
Chronic cough
Phlegmy throat
Chronic throat-clearing
Lump in throat sensation
Irritated sensatioI have had all these symptoms
Now I also get a bitter tablet like taste in mouth, doctors sent me to an ENT when I had the basd sinus issues he said post nasal drip, but that would be due to the LPR I think, but also did a test on pollen etc and it showed thatI am allergic to dust mites, 1655 was the reading , I have a deviated nose and said that if the oeration is done it wont help either, Got bad sinus issues again with eye brow pain could this be due to the stuff I am feeling in throat , did endoscopy showed nothing, but if you dont do it when you are having an issue with LPR it wont show any thing thats what Dr Christoper Chang says in his article, Now when I cough I feel like I want to vomit soetime I reguigerate food not all the time though, Has anyone only tried gaviscon and had no issues, someone said to ear and apple a day, and others say to mix2table spoons of applecider winger rince mouth then drink it. My kids too have issues, duater had mild gastritis, with lots of visible bloating, can trigger and get worse if she has dairy, or too much fried food, now she has a lot of belching, specially after meals, and also an acid taste in mouth since of late, my son has the same issues wth something stuck in throat, cough with mucas, can anyone give me any ideas as what is a high alkaline diet, and is it ok if you have gastritis and bloating etc, as it all started for my daughter when I put a bit too much lime in the water for her, has anyone heard of this test before
Rapid Spit TestA simple spit test can also be performed to determine if LPR (whether acid or non-acidic) is present as well. This test is currently not FDA approved yet and as such, is a test that is NOT covered by insurance at this time. Due to a special arrangement with RDBiomed who performs the testing, this test can be obtained in our office at a discounted price of $125 (compared to normal price of $175). Price includes the kit, test supplies, and courier shipping service
Thanks

An alkaline diet is a diet in which you avoid anything with Ph level 4 or less, and at the beginning you mostly eat food with Ph level 5 or above. To know the ph level of foods you can search on google "canning ph food list" and the first result should be a website called pickyourown dot org. They give a list of ph levels of different foods for canning, it is good for the diet too. In addition it is good to limit the amount of fat you eat because fat increase inflammation of the stomach (no fried food), vegetal fats are better in small quantities. And it is good to avoid anything irritating like coffee, tea, spices, bell peppers, cucumbers, garlic, onions, chocolate, citrus (lime, lemon, orange). Dairy are best avoided too because they stimulate the production of stomach acid.

I have tried esprazmol and the other poi but the side effects are all too bad - they cause me to have tingling in my lips and tongue plus headaches etc all the listed side effects - so I have decided to try and battle on my own with some of the advice given here.
i do still use my 150 mg at night Ranatadine - but after being told about the benefits of organic coconut oil, either eat a tea spoonful daily to help digestionp,us helps immune system, I take water 8.9 Ph ( Tesco 99p x 5ltrs ) stops the stabbing feeling in the throat and nasty sensation in the mouth, I use almond milk and chew about 4 almonds during the day, these all help naturally, this week I'm looking into the alkaline diet by Koufman it's an Ebook available on the web - that's gotta be a try
i just returned from a two week me cruise, great time but the reflux was horrid, no water at the ph level I needed and the food all very rich - but I muddled thro on Gaviscone extra and ranatadine and of course no alcohol or wine with dinner
on one occasion I tried vodka with water that was sort of ok but I decided it wasn't worth the risk.
hope some of this helps as by electing the water and other things I have changed being on holiday definitely proved it as working - now I'm home I'm back on the water, coconut , and almond milk - proving it helps - but different folks rect differently to certain foods - that is the awkward thing about reflux
After reading so many bad stories about taking ppi medication - I'm electing not to take them by my informed choice --- cheers guys hope you find some of these things help for you

i have what would seem to be the issue as you, things just don't taste the same, almost make you sick. I have hade some of the taste buds on my tongue, come off. I have the burning feeling you are talking about. Due to an injury I have been on medication that is not stomach friendly, so for the past five years I have been taking Ranitidine (300mg x 3 per day). I don't think this is the answer to your problem. You did not mention if you take any other medications, this could be a reaction caused by one of them. My problems started a few months back shortly after I started taking a drug called Topiramate, may or may not be related but it would be good to know if anyone eles who has replyed to this topic is on this drug..... Good luck, I really hope this helps, as I know what you are dealing with..

Funny you mention Almond Milk. Since moving to a high "lean" protein diet, reduction of dairy, and not many carbs I have been crushed by LPR. To the point that my vocal cords swell and I lose my voice almost instantly if I eat the absolute wrong thing. I drink a protein shake after I work out utilizing egg protein and Almond Milk. My voice starts to change immediately. I think you ate two bad things that are acidic. Funny, almonds by themselves are not, the almond milk is very acidic. So, as some have suggested, I have printed out a list of Alkaline and acidic food. I highlight what I eat with no issues in yellow, and orange as bad. Herbal tea/Green tea itself is very alkaline but many other teas are acidic. I also bought the PH strips to test my acididty in my body. If I could balance this, then perhaps it will help regulate enough to get off the meds. Absorbtion over time can become an issue! But, Cancer of the Esophogus is the one we ALL need to be careful off. The bottom line, it sucks! This is a major life style change, but, we should all be pretty lean and in good health from our limited list of really good food! Best of health to you all!

If you hav'nt already tried it, do , what have you got to loose?
I have no idea if calcium can enter the blood stream that quickly or if it is the vit tablets that are helping but i would try anythig to get rid of this problem.

I'm new to this site and have picked up some useful things. Thanks!
I just thought I would add my 'penneth' because I see it hasn't been mentioned here. Sometimes reflux is due to not enough stomach acid, even though doctors always treat for too much stomach acid. An easy way to test if you are short on acid is to take 1/4 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda in a small glass of water first thing in the morning before anything else. If you burp within 15 minutes then your acid levels are okay. If you don't burp at all (which I don't) this means your acid is very low. It is acid, of course, that breaks down our food in the stomach. If we don't have enough, then the food just sits there (usually rotting!)' thus causing a bad taste in the morning as it flows up from the esophagus.
If you find that you don't have enough acid then things like Gaviscon are only going to deplete your stores of acid even more. Hydrochloric Acid (aka HCl) can be bought on line. You test how much you need by taking one capsule after a meal, increasing it daily (I think to about 6 max) until you experience a warm sensation in your gut. When you reach the figure that gives you the warm sensation, then you take the number below this one, ie if you need four to give you this warm feeling, then you take three thereafter. If you get too hot, then a little bicarb in water will help.
There's lots of info online that you might want to check into.
i hope this helps somebody. Looking at your discussions actually reminded me that I haven't been taking HCl recently and that's probably the reason why my bad taste has come back!!! 😄
Best wishes
