Hi Peeps,

Really aching today. My left hip and pelvic joints are sore down to my left groin area which is burning a little. So uncomfortable! Does anyone else experience this wIth ovarian cysts. My stomach isnt bloated and I can't feel the cyst (the last one was 7cm and i wasnt bloated with that one eiher but my joints didnt feel quite a sore last time rolleyes).

I had my CA-125 bloods taken today. Fingers crossed! Got my ultrasound scan date for 9th April so two weeks to wait. Not sure if this is another cyst (so soon after the last one) but some of the symptoms feel similar with the additional joint and back pains this tme.....urghhh.

Does anyone share these symptoms? Sorry, just havng a stressful time with this. sad

    Hi

i have been diagnosed by ultrasound scan with 2x cysts one on each ovary biggest was 6cm, I have suffered for a while with hip pain on the right side, lower back twinges and pain radiating down the legs I just put it down to having children and general wear and tear but in wondering now if the two are related.

i haven't any bloating only around period etc but nothing noticeable, I am only slim but cannot see or feel anything significant.

i to am very stressed about the situation only because now feel like I'm getting the back pain daily not sure if it's because I now know there is something wrong with me or if it was there before and I learnt to live with it.

i have got a gyn appointment next week first one

Hi susie and carly - my heart goes out to you both. I went thro similar thing over Xmas and new year-worried sick! I had hysterectomy (best at my age) 7 weeks after 1st US scan.CA125 was normal,Ct scan showed no spread, but still had to wait 2 weeks after op for biopsy results. Getting into hospital was the best day because I knew it was getting sorted(2 cysts 5cm and 8cm ) Every thing was benign so be positive as you can. We all think of the worst that could happen ! * weeks after op I feel brilliant! x

Awww Carly, Hope things are a little calmer for you. I know it's stressful time and hard to relax when you're in pain and waiting around for appointments and results to come through.

I am still waiting for my bloods to come back which will either be tomorrow afternoon or Monday. The only reason my GP wanted to check them is because after a visit to see the gynae last week my symptoms were pretty mild and after an internal examination he couldnt feel anything and so decided that it must have shrunk. The day after seeing him the pains returned and so I went straight back to my GP and she decided to take my bloods as a precautionary measure. Has booked me in for another ultrasound (which is in 2 wks time).

I am very slim too and can't feel a thing infact even with that last cyst at 7cm I couldnt feel it eve after applying pressure to that area. Thought I might have at least been a little bloated with it but nothing. So weird!

Keep us posted on how you get on and try to keep yourself distracted. It's helps take away the focus. Take care Carly, gentle hugs x

      Oh thanks Sylvia,

So glad that it went well for you. A hysterectomy is a major decision but when it comes to your health sometimes those decisions are made for you. You must feel so much relief!

I really hope I don't have to get to that stage (haven't had kids yet, turning 40 this year and I don't know if that will happen now). Also after watching the Angelina Joli story in the news just recently it makes me want to cry.

Anyway, I'll try and keep a positive head on.

      Take care Sylvia x

Omg Susie, your pain symptoms are exactly like mine were, before my surgery three weeks ago and now I'm pain free. Here's my story and advice. It's long, with some back-story. But, please read it all, I promise you'll get some very useful info from it.:

I'm Tracy, 39 and have been trying to get pregnant.

I had my right ovary removed in 2004 because it was engulfed in scar tissue. This was because ten years earlier, I had a cyst with a fertilized egg in it, in the wall of my ovary and it blew up like a grenade. I had two kids after that, though. Hours after my second baby was born in 2000, I had my tubes tied.

In 2013 I had major surgery to repair my one remaining fallopian tube so I can get pregnant again.

In December of 2014, on ovulation day, I started having excruciatingly sharp pain in the area of my only ovary, on the left side. The pain shot into the tip of my hip bone and radiated along the top of my pelvic bone, down the back and ended at my tail bone area. It also shot down my thigh on the same side. I went to the ER many times and all they saw were two small ovarian cysts. I've had recurring ovarian cysts since puberty.

This pain caused me to basically become bed ridden. About two months later, a horrible burning pain started and this was in addition to the already severely sharp pain I was experiencing. This burning pain caused the hip bone pain to radiate down the front of my pelvic bone and ended in my pubic bone. So, now my pain was all along the top of my pelvic bowl, on the left side, from my pubic bone to my tail bone.

After being pawned off from Dr to Dr, I finally found the most wonderful OBGYN surgeon. She was worried and did another ultrasound. One of my cysts had all of a sudden gone from being one inch to the size of a lemon. In the ultrasound, it looked like it was a hemorrhagic cyst. But, with the severity of my pain, my surgeon was worried my ovary was possibly twisted and dying. So, she got me into surgery the very next day. This was now three months after the pain started, March 3rd.

She went in laparoscopically and found a little bit of a lot of things. The cyst was fibrous, caused by endometriosis. My fallopian tube was stuck by adhesions to my bowel. There was a bit of endometriosis on the right and left side of my uterus, but luckily not inside it. On my bowel, there was some scarring and a little endometriosis. Along with all that, my one remaining tube that was repaired in 2013, had been blocked by scar tissue.

My amazing surgeon gently removed the cyst, scar tissue/adhesions, endometriosis, and unblocked my tube. She cured my pain, she's my hero!

One reason why I wanted to post all of this is to let you know that it's possible to actually get rid of the pain and save your reproductive organs so you can still get pregnant. If course, there are different circumstances for some, but not for all.

    VERY IMPORTANT:

My surgeon was specially trained to remove ovarian cysts THE CORRECT WAY, with little to no damage to the ovary. Apparently, in medical school they're taught to just rip the cyst from the ovary wall, which will cause damage, scarring. My surgeon went to additional schooling, to be trained as a specialist, to gently tease cysts away from the ovarian wall and preserve the egg reserve as much as possible. It takes a long time to do such delicate work, but if you still want kids it's definitely worth it!

One other thing I want to mention is, each month when an egg is developing in the ovary, it develops inside a cyst. But, at that point it's called a follicle. Once you've ovulated, the follicle is then called a cyst. They typically go away on their own. I've had them linger a little, sometimes for months, since I started puberty.

Anyway, my first period since my surgery started a couple days ago. For the first time, I'm feeling cramps the way normal women do. I am having some ovary pain, but that's normal this soon after surgery. Also, my period is heavier than I've ever had, insanely heavy. But, that's normal after this surgery as well.

I hope this info helps put your mind at ease and educates you a little about what you may be going through. There's hope! I personally recommend the laparoscopic surgery, but only if you find a surgeon who specializes in this sort of thing, one who's had additional training in making sure they're as careful and gentle as humanly possible. Laparoscopic will cause far less internal scarring than major surgery. I read that something like 80% of people will have internal scarring after major surgery. That's why, no matter what kind of surgery you have, you need to be extra careful about not using your abdominal muscles for about 6-8 weeks. If you need to cough, sneeze, vomit, etc, make sure you have a pillow you can press on your belly to prevent any major abdominal movement. That can help prevent adhesions like I had.

Hello, I'm wondering if you can pass on the name of your Dr./Surgeon?

    Hi Susie

I suffer these symptoms - especially I have done lots of exercise or gardening etc. My pelvis area is just so painful and I have a 10 cm dermoid cyst on my left Ovary and I have lots of pain in my back and hip on that side, especially if I have to stand for long periods. It seems quite common - just can't wait for my operation! I just want to know it is definitely a dermoid one and nothing nasty!

Hey y'all! I'm experiencing so much of the same issues. I feel like an idiot though because my dermoid is only 3cm. If I apply a small amount of pressure, it hurts! I have the hip pain too but on the opposite side. I have had what I thought was kidney pain since September2017. I had vaginal bleeding from then to Christmas and period spotting at abnormal times. I already have kidney disease so I went to a urologist. He ordered a ct scan of my pelvic and abdominal area to see if it was kidney or reproductive. My kidneys were Great, but that's when the dermoid and a fibroid was discovered. I had a pelvic US to confirm. My gyno had already heard all of the pain and symptoms I have been having but told me we would only do surgery, if it was giving me problems. Face Palm! 😵 She said it would have to be open surgery, not sure if that's due to my weight or because I've already had 2 c sections. I asked if she thought it was malignant. Her reply though standard, was quite alarming! She said she wouldn't know without doing surgery and a biopsy! I realize it's like a 1-2% chance but that just is scary!

Have any of you had only your ovaries removed? Also, do any of you have diabetes?

I am type 1 and I'm having trouble finding any information about the effects of dermoids on diabetes.

    I wish y'all the Best!!!
