Recently had a DG-HAL hemorrhoid surgery, need some help and advice

Hi everyone,
I'm 25 years old and had been living with stage II internal hemorrhoids for about 4 years now, and with a prolapsed thrombosis from one for about six months. It got seriously painful about three weeks ago and I couldn't sit down or do regular daily activites anymore. So I decided to visit a private clinic where they suggested the DG-HAL surgical procedure saying it was "non-invasive" and that they would surgically remove the thrombosis aswell. Fast forward, I had the procedure done this Wednesday and they said "Oh yeah it's a fast recovery, we do it on Wednesdays and Thursdays so that people can get back to their jobs by Monday"..so here I am, Sunday 4.45 A.M., haven't slept since the surgery, and I just don't feel like stuff is healing. I have no appetite but am forcing myself to eat more small meals and drink plenty of water and fiber and oil supplements to make the BM pass better. So my concerns are the following: it's already the fourth day and i feel more pain, and have the feeling like by bowels are full and trying to rip out of my torso. I'm taking antibiotics aswell as ketobrufen painkillers every 6 hours or so because It's just to unbearable. I have the urge to visit the toilet very frequently but when I try to push something out only small traces come out (it is soft and without blood though). It hurts like hell after I pass gas or a BM, the cut out thromb takes up most of the pain. When I try to go to sleep, as soon as I begin to doze off a spasm contracts in my rectum and the thromb starts hurting like hell and it wakes me up. They say the method takes about 3-4 days to recovery, but as you can see I call baloney on that. So if anyone has had a similar experience can you tell me if this is normal and if it isn't what should I do about it? I have a writtwn exam on Monday and I want to be functional to take it. Thanks in advance!

So sorry to hear that I don't have much advice to give out since I am new to all of this, but have you considered taking a day off and calling your proctologist, scheduling a visit maybe?

Now I'm really freaking out and I need help! I ate some raspberries and blueberries today, and I just cak to the toilet and red diarrhea squirted out of me followed by normal brown poop. Could it be the raspberries and blueberries because my metabolism has worked really fast these days, or is it blood??? Please help!

Hi!
Well first and foremost it's my obligation to tell you to speak with a doctor first. Now, from what I can tell you from my experience is to try and balance out your diet and increase your daily fibre and water intake, it really helps a lot with softening the stool. Now about the procedure itself. It really depends on pain tolerance from person to person. Recovery really isn't as "fast" as they say it is. I couldn't sleep for 3 days straight after the operation because of the pain and random spasms I would get in my sphincter the moment I tried to fall asleep. It took me about 2 weeks to regain strength and lose the pain when defecating, and about 3 weeks more to regain the weight I lost and start exercising a bit. On the other hand, it has been about 6 months since the operation now and I am really grateful I did it. I do have to poop about 4 times a day, but the pain is gone, I have no more prolapses, no more burning or itching, and I got used to eating more healthy and developped healty bathroom habits.
Bear in mind that this is my individual take on the matter, as I lived through it with my own pain tolerance levels. In regard to this, I would first recommend that you try with a fibre and water increase in your diet, and go for the procedure only if you truly feel that it is your last resort! Hope this helps you!

Thank you so much but there isn't any natural laxatives to be used!I'm tired. even I get a vegetable diet with lots of water and walking every day but I'm constipated yet!
you said u poop 4 times a day! it's so bad.
I should do more search to find a solution for my problem ?!

Yeah, but it's actually pretty healthy to get rid of your feces as soon as possible, and I'm already used to it so no biggie
Yeah, try and do some research, but if you say that nothing is helping your constipation problem, it might be that the internal hemmorhoids have swollen to a size that's blocking up normal passage of stools

Sorry for the late response. Well the external prolapse stitch was the one thing that hurt me the most. Severe pain lasted for like 4 days, and after a week I kind of got used to the discomfort while going to the toilet. But I would say it took also about 2-3 weeks for it to heal. And now I have some soft tissue scar left where the prolapse was located. What did you have operated exactly?

I have been suffering from Grade 3 & 4 haemorrhoids for over a year and an anal fissure for at least the last 9 months. Recently, the combined pain resulting from both was becoming unbearable. I finally decided to get the HAL-RAR procedure done. It's been about 24 hours since my surgery. There was very little pain until 18 hrs after the procedure. Around 7am in the morning, my bowels felt extremely full and I had the urge to go to the bathroom. The BM was relatively painless (say 20% of the pain I was experiencing before the surgery), however there were hardly any stools. It was mostly liquid, with some light mushy material accompanied by some blood. I have not yet had a full BM but I did have some heavy discomforting feeling in my bowel - not pain just an annoying 'heavy' feeling like I needed to go for another BM but in reality nothing was coming out. I have been resisting these urges and the discomfort has slowly subsided. I have been prescribed a light painkiller - paracetamol/ibuprofen, and a much stronger (but constipation-causing painkiller) in addition to a laxative. I have had one dose of the lesser painkiller as it seems to be doing the job so far. After from some minimal pain and heavy but subsiding discomfort, no other issues are present now. Will update on the recovery and healing process over the next few days.

Day 2 post-surgery. I had my first 'real' BM, around 48 hrs after I had the procedure done. It was surprisingly very smooth. There was a little discomfort, and some spot bleeding due to the fissure, but the intensity of the pain during the BM was almost insignificant (say 10% of what I was feeling before the surgery). The BM was relatively quick (5 mins or so) compared to the 30-45 mins that I was taking earlier. Very little discomfort after, which completely disappeared in about an hour. I am taking the lesser pain medication (combination of ibuprofen/paracetamol) as required only. So far so good. Will update on further progress.

The recovery has been very good over the last two weeks. I have been having BM around once per day and I am only going to the toilet when the urge hits, rather than as a 'routine'. The pain has significantly subsided. There is still some minor discomfort when naturally pushing during the BM. I am consciously avoiding straining and not sitting excessively or more than I need to. After about a week after the surgery, I noticed a small 'pea-shaped' pile after a BM. This was not painful at all but slightly itchy. On consulting the Surgeon, I was assured that this was nothing abnormal as the HAL RAR procedure aims to shrink the piles, and since I had extremely large piles to begin with, it would take several weeks before the piles shrunk right down to a size that would disable them from protruding through the anus. Since the procedure, I have had one or two instances where I noticed some very small blood patches. This was accompanied by very minor pain in the rectal area. I am not too concerned about this, however I will monitor this closely in the next couple of weeks. Other than that, the recovery has been quite positive. I am also able to walk and do regular things without discomfort. Will continu to update on progress over the next few weeks.
