Recovery after a varicocele embolization

Posted , 33 users are following.

I had a bilateral VE 2 weeks ago. It went well but I am still having a lot of testes discomfort (they hurt to the touch)and my bag of worms on the left testicle has not improved. I was wondering what the recovery has been like for other guys who have had this procedure. Am I expecting good things too quickly? How can you tell if it has in fact worked? Thank you. Howard

hi guys, I had a left testicle embolisation about 4 years ago now and it had no effect at the time. Recently something very strange appears to have happened..... I woke up a few mornings ago and all the veins appear to have gone down but I am feeling pain in my left kidney area. I am also getting a really gurgling stomach and my stools have been a lot softer than usual. Is this normal or should I be worried about this? Seems rather weird.

Hi guys, bit off the topic but this is the latest discussion I could find on this subject. About a month or so a go I got diagnosed with a vericocele in my left testicle and it's quite large in my opinion and it came very suddenly which I'm a bit worried about. I've spoken to a urologist and he is going to give me a abdominal scan as I've been getting persistant upper tummy pain also slight chest pain. Also my erections aren't as strong as they used be. Just looking for any info or similar experiences.

    Thanks

    Dave

hi do you know if varicocele is alao the cause of scortum sagging? my pain isnt too bad just abit of a dull ache its the sagging i find embarrssing as im only young?

Yes - varicoceles can cause the scrotum to be heavy and sag because of the extra blood it contains which is not carried back up through the defective veins.

Hi, i realise this is an old discussion however I had left testicle embolisation about 4 years ago now and it had no effect at the time. Well recently something weird seems to have happened to me.... I woke up a few mornings ago with a really sore left back and kidney but the veins in my left testicle are now really depleted. I am however getting bowel issues and random pressure in my left kidney area and my stomach is gurgling. Its almost like I am now getting the effects I should have right after the operation. Have you had the same symptoms? Will they go away? Should I be worried about anything more serious?

Yes - you should be worried if the pains you describe persist for more than a few days. In that case you should see your doctor or go to an ER and get a proper assessment as there can be many causes for your symptoms not related to your VE.

Sometimes a year or more after a VE that used coils the coils can move and attach to nerves that could cause pain like yours. In that case the coils can be removed but first you need to have a full assessment from your doctor. Good luck!

Hey what's up everyone. I had Bi lateral VE 3 days ago on 4/30/21. the procedure went well. The IR went in through the right side of my leg. After the procedure I felt sever lower back pain. I have read that this is a possible side effect but can't find anywhere what the reason for this is or how long it lasts. Also I am still having dull pain on the left side only.

I think my VC at least the right side was caused by Inguinal hernia, but i'm not sure. Maybe it was pressing on the vain or something.

It is important to discuss these problems with your IR. It is not unusual right after the procedure but he should know about it as he may want to take a look at it and give you pain medication.

Firstly, big shoutout to everyone who has had to experienced Varicocele; it's a lot more mentally draining thing aswell as physical, then people think. I had varicocele embolization done about a month ago now. One positive; the weight on the left testicle has been taken away however there are still some veins visible and, the left testicle itself is still considerably smaller than my right testicle. Overall better than before the procedure but still a few things concerning me, I was wondering how others recovered and if anyone could give me any advice?

Does the testicle return to normal size?

Do the remaining veins disappear over time?

I would not engage in vigorous physical activity like sports or sex for a couple of months as it can dislodge the coils. Over time the veins and swelling will go down. But if you have any problems you should not hesitate to call your doctor and discuss it with him. Good luck.

Hi , I'm just curious as to the source of your information on dislodging the coils. I'm wondering if bending and crouching during daily life are enough of a strain to dislodge coils? I've had pain at the implant site from just getting up from adjusting the sprinkler on the lawn! Doctors just tell me it's "post-op pain".

I had a VE done with coils two weeks ago left testicle. The bag of worms was gone after the first day and no pain for two days - I was on cloud 9 after 10 plus years of the varicocele gradually worsening. Then a slight intermittent ache in testicle for a couple of days after that , so down to cloud 8, then on day 4 stood up from a chair and felt a fairly sharp pain at the embolization site? Read about my precautions in the literature provided by the hospital and went to the ER because of increased pain and swelling at the embolization site. U/S and blood test all fine and i refrained from any physical activity on the weekend other than the recommended walking. Had virtually no pain for three days so went to work on monday. This was after reading literature from hospital and internet sites stating that i could "return to normal activities" in a few days after VE.. Lots of walking at work, up and down steep hills, some crouching and bending then finally got a call back from my IR doctor late monday afternoon and he told me to take it easy! That's a very relative and subjective term....'take it easy'. Was I not supposed to bend down and pet the dog or Moderate testicle pain in evening and needed heavier painkillers to sleep.

Now day 14 , pain in left testicle which has alternated from embolization site and back to testicle as well as many hours of no pain the last 6 days. Just when i start feeling better and tell the guys I'm coming in for work i have to cancel the night before again! Resigned to living one day at a time and hoping to get back to "normal" enough to work soon.

Hoping to share some good news about being pain free in the near future!
