Rectocele recovery

Hi, I had a rectocele repair  only 16 days ago and wondered if people could share how I should feel by now. I have four kids and am on my feet a lot probably more than I should be. I am taking movicol and that works as well as pretending to blow bubbles to get my bowl moving - all works. I am worried my vagina is going to be really tight after this. Does this happen. I also have what feels like a row of scar tissue between my front and back passage. I guess where skin was somehow folded in...? I am feeling miserable but not in horrendous pain. I picked my one and a half year old up a couple of times by mistake recently and didn't feel too bad. I am mostly worried about whether my stitches have burst - no idea but no blood. Also how do you know if you have an infection. I have yellowish discharge but no real bleeding. Any ideas of what I should expect ...especially sex after this - is it going to hurt/be too tight?

    Hi there,

I just had rectocele surgery a few days ago and I’m dealing with no BM issue. I have to go but I’m afraid I will bust a stitch because I have to push some and the BM may bust a stitch as well coming out. I started taking Colace and I drink plenty of fluids. Feeling very miserable right now and I don’t know what else to do. I have read the others concerns which are exactly like mine. Can I use a glycerin suppository to help?

I’m sorry to hear you are dealing with constipation - not fun!  I was told to take Mirilax (one capful each AM - can also take another capful in PM until regular) ALONG with taking 1-2 colace tabs each PM.  Early on - I think it was 2nd or 3rd day, I was also worried - so took a one time 30ml does of Milk of Magnesia.  Tasted awful - but results allowed to literally sit there and “let it happen”.  Be careful not to take too many of these things while allowing what you have taken time to work.  For me - once I was having a BM a day....I am maintaining with Miralax in the AM and 1 colace tablet both AM and PM....along with drinking 2L fluid/day.

I wouldn’t hesitate to reach out to your MD if you are concerned as they are best positioned to advise you on this based on your personal medical history.

Hi Hun. I would ask your dr if the suppository would be ok before you used it. I used movicol sachets one everynight before bed to keep my stool soft. Unfortunately for me, the double lot of antibiotics gave me diarrhoea which was just as bad as constipation! X

I am in so much pain I can't quite get marbles together to figure out how to post my own question on here so I will ask it here. I am nine days post rec repair number two. Feel awful. Pain and pulling sensation in vaginal. Don't recall if the pulling is normal. Thank you beautiful ladies. 😊?

Hi Hun. Is the pulling sensation as in tightness or the feeling that everything is being pulled out? Every time I stood up it felt like everything was being pulled out of me. Those first four weeks are bloody awful! Xx

Hi- new to this forum. But looking for a community of support that understands what I’m going thru. I had a fourth degree cut us a tear down to my rectum with my first child, born 6 weeks ago. Unfortunately, the initial repair right after delivery didn’t hold up and/or it just didn’t heal right down there. Anyways I was referred to a surgeon and told I need a perineum and sphicter repair. So they basically recut me open from the vagina down to the rectum and sewed everything back together. I’m no 10 days post op and feeling okay. I’m very sore and very tight down there. It’s painful to sit normal and it’s painful if I stand too long. My doctor said I could do small things around the house and said I could go out for a quick errand if needed. I feel so cooped up at home I had to get out with my daughter. I feel I’ve done too much the last few days and although I don’t think I’ve reopened anything I can tell I’ve aggitated it down there. I know I’m probably crazy for going grocery shopping after the first week. This road to recovery is going to awful and long. I’m having normal, but painful stools. The one thing that is making most nervous right now is a yellowish discharge I’m having. After reading a few of these replies it seems normal!?!?? Anyone else confirm if that’s true? I did call my doctor and she said to not worry that was part of the heeling. It’s been going on for at least a week now.

I’m also icing down there a few times a day and taking a warm bath at night... both of those help so much to make me feel better. I’m off pain meds and only taking ibuprofen a few times a day.

I guess my biggest concern is the yellow discharge and I’m mad at myself for probably over doing it and praying that I didn’t do any damage from over doing it (although my dr said I could do things).

Anyways I see the doctor in 4 days so we’ll see what she says.

Any help, advice or comforting words would be great.

    Thanks

      Hi Katie,

While my repair (A&P with TOT sling) was not exactly what you had - they did state yellow discharge was normal.  If it smells bad, or looks more like pus...and/or you are running a fever - call your MD ASAP.  As for activity - please go easy and give yourself LOTS of rest time getting pressure off that area as much as you can...this is the time to allow yourself to heal so you dont end up with more problems down the road.  Boring - but necessary as that area holds about 2/3s of our body weight when we are standing.  Enjoy the time with you little one and for each time you must be up/out...give yourself rest and feet up time for a while post.

      Good Luck!
