Rectocele repair and anal fissure.

Hi all,

I'm really hoping someone on this forum can associate with this problem.

I'm having a Rectocele repair, have had problems for years, and finally decide to have it done.

My worry is, I have haemorrhoids and have been bleeding badly for the last few weeks, but not sure if this is from an anal fissure.

The stinging pain is awful, and I think straining because of the Rectocele is making the bleeding worse.

I am worried the surgery will make the fissure worse initially.

Anyone have any ideas?

The surgery is soon, and I can't get the fissure to heal up.

Waiting in hope😕

Do the surgeons know about your haemorrhoids and anal fissure? Has it been seen by them, do they know how bad it is. Have you been examined by a doctor for it?

      Hi Barbara,

Yes the gynaecologist I saw knows about them both, but has said if the surgery he is doing for the rectocele--I'm having a laparoscopy for an ovarian cyst at the same time-- doesn't help, he will refer me to a colorectal consultant.

my GP knew but didn't examine me as she felt it would be too painful.

Just in case this is reassuring, I was told I had internal hemmeroids and that it was probably because of the incomplete evacuation and seepage caused by the rectocele.  Lovely, I know.  I had a defecography done and there were some other bad things seen in my intestines (some telescoping, some other things), but the colorectal surgeon did not want to do anything about it, beyond having the urogyn fix the rectocele.  I'm not sure if that is because it was mild or if because he thought the rectocele was contributing, but I thought it was the latter.

My operation is vaginal so I don't think it will cause any intestenal problems beyond needing to be careful about constipation, especially after anesthesia.

Please keep me updated, are you having a spinal block? I was bad after my hysterectomy with pain for 24 hours till the surgeon came and she was not best pleased with the nurse so this time I have a one to one for the pain.

tranadol and anti sick drugs helped me last time.

good luck Carole please keep me updated, you are a week and two days before me so let's share the experience if you feel you can. X

      No a general.

The anaesthetist can't do a spinal block, I have no spinal disc spaces due to spinal fusion, mand nerve inflammation, so they won't touch that.

I can take morphine with anti sickness drugs.

Yes I will try to keep you updated, and not scare you too muchconfused

All the best for your op. Please try not to stress about it. Know that is not easy as I am a real worry wort myself but it really dosen't help and lack of sleep is not good. One of the things I wish I had done differently was to make sure I had a few days off before my op so I could get a few day rests in. Instead I did the opposite trying to everything as up to date as I could a work and house spotless so I wouldn't worry about these during my recovery, unfortunately I drained myself so much and had so little sleep I was so wound up when I went for my surgery I cried just before I went in for surgery. My anesthestist was wondeful and gave me some happy medicine which helped. Hope you do manage to get a few days for R&R and that all goes brilliantly. Even though I am in pain at the moment I am still postive that it will all be worth it in the end. Will be thinking of you. Keep us all posted. xx

Hi carole, I agree with the other ladies that Matron is probably best qualified to give medical based advise as she works in this area.

I had some severe stinging pains caused not by haemorroids as i thought but by the weiight of the rectocelle bearing down on my vulva area. The wetness caused by rectocelle was bringing onn the haemorroids. The point I am trying to make is we are not doctors and we don't always get it right when we self diagnosis. So please go and get help and insist on it. The doctor put me on single anti-thrush tablet , stopped my antibotics which a previous Gp had prescribed. Suggested some simply baby rash cream and talc to help with wetness and a antiseptic cream with a anesthetic in it. Rest and some suppositories for the haemorroids -the kind you keep in the fridge , she recommended using the creams around my bottom area to help heal and for the pain. I was to use wet wipes to clean after tiolet and not tiolet paper and had to be extra careful with cleaning my hands and area.  It took 3 weeks to heal up but was heaps better within a week and bareable with 10 days with no bleeding or soreness. I continued the babycream & talc until I had my surgery- another 4 weeks later just to make sure it didn't flare up again. Hope this helps but aee your GP ASAP. Good luck with op and healing. xx

Have done most of that, and yes, I agree that the downwards pressure is hurting the base of my spine and right underneath the vulval area.

All that area is burning. Tried steroid cream, made me sore, so just using antiseptic wipes and cream -- lots of it.

i just wish I could do something to heal the rear before the op.

I'm not looking forward to both bits stinging and burning!

      Matron?

Hi Carole, just read this, hope you got some relief. Glad you stop the steroid cream that is what made mine worst. You could try a salt bath too. All the best with your op xx
