Regrets ? Does this cross anyone's mind ???

Is it NORMAL to think three weeks in .. What the hell have I done ? I mean I don't regret it really but at this stage the benefits so do not outweigh a former state . I know it sounds churlish and impatient ... Just wondered if this is a normal phase .? I mean I was in pain before but this pain outweighs it by a ton .. Really wish I could bend and pick something up properly I am a useless patient and feel so frustrated ... Anyone relate to this ? Not really feeling sorry for myself more missing a state where I could walk and bend and was in pain sometimes ...hey ho !!!

    hi hazel ,

    checking in with y'all ...

I think we have all heard those wonderful stories before making the decision to get THR surgery , of people who know ppeople who know people etc. who had tghis miraculous recovery -  2-3 weeks discomfort tops and then of and running ..

Alas, it is different in most cases -

But let's be honest --- in what state were we ? constant in terrible pain, bone-on-bone, gnawing pain - drugged from medication that was not even giving any relief anymore --- I thought about having an amputation of leg (s) !!!!

A future of being wheelchair bound became real ... and the pain would still be there ....

Okay, this is how I see it now, on hindsight ... would I have done it if I knew beforehand how long it could take ?   My surgeon told me that it could take up to 12 -18 months  and I didn't believe him - he also reminded me that this is a replacement of a diseased part of my hip -

I have felt disappointed and discouraged many times and still do ...

but I do not regret the surgeries ...the alternative was not an option !!!

but it is so great to be able to share this with each other and feel "normal"

    big warm hugsss

No I don't Regret it Renee just did not think it would be so painful . Silly of me . Thing is I was not in Constant pain before ..,It came and went and was getting quickly worse . I had it as I did not want to delay the inevitable and thus have it at an older age .. I am

      56. The pain now is far far worse but I know this is a pain that will go in time unlike the hip pain that was going to increase . It was a gamble but I think I made the right call . I asked my surgeon after my operation ... Was it really bad ? My hip ? He smiles sweetly and said if it wasn't we would not have been doing it .. So evasive aren't they !

      Keep on keeping on ..,xxx

Yep Bobbie - it does get better, but oh-so-slowly.

It's a hard road, physically and mentally.

      Hi everyone

The first year is the worst...try to organize your day so you are able to rest and ice...those large gel ice packs are great to sit on after they are frozen. Add a second one on the side...consider a Sunbeam heated mattress pad beneath your topper pad...when we sleep, our metabolism slows and out temp drops. This pad which dials from 1-10 keeps your poor achy joints warm. Reduces the morning stiffness because the muscles are warm. In summer I keep it on 1. Never again climb into a cold bed.

Years 2-5 will also bring improvement, slowly. But each yeat you will look back and see the difference. I have had 22 joint replacements and after a time you forget you have them. I am now in process of having 8-12 more. We are each so blessed to have been born during a time when this is possible.

May each of you heal quickly

      warm regards

Wow Judith hats off to you .. Amazing ! 22! Do you mind if I ask why so many? I have had two but strangely enough my left wrist pre fusion was far far more painful than my hip . Post fusion with a metal rod it was bliss . With my hip it's the other way round ! 😧X

The one thing I did notice, was that when change had to happen it was fine... you sort of know...when sommat is safe...just use your years of intuition, as an older confident person does, self preservation does play in to the theme here as well, those are real skills, and real feelings too, just be careful getting out and have some one else there to assist, it really is that easy.  Ian ++++
