Hi my name is Destiney I am 20 I had my left hip replaced when I was 17 I am technically in the same position as you I have had doctors tell me its a mind thing is nerve damage and that there are are problems but not in my hip I have been to pain management I got addicted to pain medication and so now its hard to control the pain with any pain medication just recently my blood work has came back that there was inflammation which they think is caused by an infection they have did MRIs Bone Scans and Xrays everything comes back normal just recently and orthopedic doctor referred me to a hip specialist and I came to fine out that my hip implant was not put in right and that could be causing pain but they are going to run test like take fluid out of my hip to make sure there is no infection since the blood work was abnormal these doctors are giving me hope after 4yrs I honestly stopped trusting doctors they made me feel like I was crazy but to read how many people are going through similar situations makes me feel relieved to know I am not alone though I wish this on no one but the ones going through it can relate these doctors made a total hip replacement sound so wonderful and it ends up being a nightmare I am so sorry you are having to deal with this no one deserves to be in pain everyday or stuck at home I am young and I can't even enjoy hanging out with my friends I know the feeling of being useless but to actually talk about it feels so much better

O you poor girl. And what a ghastly story of arrogance on the part of your surgeon. As you are in the Us I would think the law would help you more than your own surgeon. Have you considered seeing an alternative therapist.   Inflammation will show up in minimal blood tests so I can't believe they misled you so much in the beginning.   Will your second opinion stick his neck out and say you need a revision. Terrible to have yet more surgery but after what you have suffered and are still suffering, you may find the trauma of another procedure outweighed by the relief. Indeed, just knowing it was them and not you should help. Can your insurance provider take it up or you. That surgeon should be named and shamed. If I were in theUS I'd call a tv channel. You are so young it is criminal you have had to go through this because of surgeon error. Have you got an older person to guide you and support you and give legal advice. Sounds like you have a strong case, but you need to get the medical side resolved firstly.   Keep a diary.

A revision surgery has already been discussed from my second opinion he just wants to take precaution and run some more test before going in there for a second time and being hit with a surprise like an infection so I have to wait a couple more weeks which I'm trying to do patiently what a couple more weeks I guess I see it that way.. As for that surgeon he is a very highly respected surgeon every doctor I have seen in the past basically closed the door on me because of who the surgeon is he was suppose to be the best and honestly he has made my life the worst I'm young I'm suppose to be able to have fun and I can't do none of that because of this hip.. He told me I needed to see a psychiatrist because it was a mind thing which I didn't understand how can pain be a mind thing the manufacturer even sent a letter stating my hip was a recall he was so sure that it wasn't and til this day is still sure.. I wish I never got this replacement I was better off without it.. As for legal advice I do have someone looking into the case but they want to go after the manufacturer and I want them to go after the doctor my parents have been helping me a lot with this because I can rarely do things like driving for myself I had to get homeschooling to finish high school so it has been a rough 4yrs I've thought about going to the news and letting people hear my experience but I've been in so much pain I was just trying to find a doctor to help me... A diary I have tried that I just get so frustrated and its so hard to right down everything including my feelings because I'm not one to express my feelings... After reading some of people's experiences and seeing I'm not the one but that there are plenty of people in my situation makes it so easy to share

Ok so getting well is your priority. I understood that surgeons in theUS knew about the recalls. Did you have metal on metal and what are the other components. Have you visited an online help group against that manufacturer.... There was a lady on here called Hope4Cure who makes up part of a USA class action. Have you got anti inflammatories (don't mean NSAIDs). Have you been able to apply topical anti inflammatory.... How about dictating and recording the diary. I understand feeling so helpless esp when there is a foreign object inside you doing harm but yr second opinion is clearly being cautious and will ensure optimum conditions. Then you have the painkiller addiction which I know about. Can you swap around and vary those. They're all pretty much addictive but you can worry about getting off those when yr new hip is stable. And you can make up for your social life later. This is a small glitch in a lifetime. Try and think positive. Have you tried a Mindfulness DVD to help with pain.  There is something called self hypnosis for pain also. Whatever it takes

First off I do apologies if everything is cluttered together I am typing from my phone which does seem to act up sometimes...

The orthopedic surgeon said that there was no metal the a couple of months later he stated there was just a little bit of metal but not enough to do harm so that was a red flag there this doctor kept on going back on what he was saying every time I had a question I guess he thought since I was young I would not know much but I do my research and although something's are not always true when it comes to the internet I have can across some questions to ask if that all makes sense I have a strong feeling this doctor is hiding something and it frustrates me that he could be lying to more people even though it is my right to get my medical records they have been giving me a hard about it which seems funny... They have not put me on anything for inflammation.. I've tried nerve blockers they have not help... The pain medication addiction I've stopped taking certain ones because my parents thought it was making me miserable but they don't know its the pain that's making me miserable... Your right I can make up for my social life but it gets hard and lonely sometimes I get tired staying in the house while everyone gets to go about there day I was planning on going to college and have to put that off right now it just starts to be overwhelming when I think about everything I have not tried recording but I will try that out.. As for hypnosis I have not even thought about that but will be something I look into

When will you know if there's infection? Are you on antibiotic therapy now... For bone infection you can have intravenously. That is a complication.  Have you read up on hydrogen peroxide therapy. Controversial. I still soak in a bath with correct dose of that... You must feel so powerless. Better the new surgeon ensures all is clean and you just got inflammation not infection. Maybe he suspects the start of an infection but your bloods should show that up ... Great shame you got to wait

They are going to take the fluid out of the hip next Tuesday I have to wait a couple of weeks for the results which I guess since I've waited 4 years what's a couple more weeks.. I just came from getting my lab work from the past in 2011 it shows my sed rate and c reactive protein have been high we called the surgeon who did the surgery and spoke with his nurse we asked how come we were not notified about the abnormal results he stated "that the doctor can not pin point everything for me" which made me want to scream because this is my health we are talking about I have been in so much pain and he is going to tell me he can not pin point everything for me I am so upset because now I know my feeling was right there is something going on and I have question do you know what exactly the sed rate and c reactive protein is they said infection and then others said information but I seen on my research of failed hips if those are high then there could be an infection I am just upset and confused because I basically put my Lief in this doctors hands and for him to not tell me important information has to be wrong somewhere

Can you ask the new surgeon to obtain your records. That stinks of 3 day old fish. Ask them if there's a problem are they covering up, as it certainly looks like it. What's their excuse? Also ask new OS if you can have 10mg amitriptyline at night, may help overall w pain and depression. That's a very low dose btw and you can up it to 20 or 25mg. It's been around for decades and is v underestimated these days. Try and find Hope4Cure on here. She will be a great source of info for you. Waiting to have metal on metal removed and lots of health issues due to that. Also going to court v soon with that class action.  I believe it's imminent and maybe they're stalling you as there's a cut off date for filing....

Hello Destiney, My name is Jackie I do feel your pain I was born with hip DisplasiaI was about 5 years when i had my first surgery I was in body cast, then many years later after my second daughter was born I had horriable pain at this time in my life I was 23 bone on bone . Went in had total hip replacement Which went very well never felt better. Then 22 years later  I had loosening of my prosthetic, back kept going out could hardly get threw work. I had to have revision its been almost year oct 24 ,2013 , So one year later still on disability I also have nerve damage still in physical therapy 3x week now they are sending me to pain management doctor next week . I did get second opinion and that doctor told me to go see my gerneral practioner maybe there something she can give you to help you get threw this until you fully recover . I was in shock what im getting at is find doctor that specializes in REVISION hip surgery I did not do that , You see i was in so much pain I thought this surgery was the answer I know revision are alot more complex and harder to recover. Dont let anyone tell you its in your mind because its not I also just had MRI which showed i have bulging disc sciatic nerve damage . I live in the US All doctors know each other so if you have lawyer keep with them I think they can help you , Ask alot of questions with your doctor and get second and third opinions . I wish you well and please keep me posted take care Jackie

Thank you Jackie it is just too much for a person to handle but the way I see it if their not going through it they will never understand after seeing so many people in this situation it made me cry to know that so many people are having a difficult time dealing with pain and these doctors depend on technology to give them answers instead of doing more research on it.. I just got done explaining to someone how I got my lab results from the past today and I seen that my sed rate and my c reactive protein was high I do not know what neither is but I've had different doctors tell me its either and infection or means inflammation but its been high since 2011 since my doctor transferred there was no way of getting the results from right after the surgery in 2010  so with that being said I called the surgeon today and spoke with his nurse which all the nurse could say was "he could not pin point everything for me" which made me very upset because he was quick to say it was a mind thing but blood work showed other wise now how can blood work be wrong I don't know I have just been so upset and stressed out today because there is no one I can really turn to but again thank you I hope all is well for you

I know how you feel. Southern Indiana Orthopedics left me in the same shape. It really sad because I had a great job great insurance. Now I am totally disabled from a THR and the foot drop brace I received delivered to my door. I am mostly bed ridden. Its hard not to just go off. I mean they go on with their lives after ruining mine it's not fair. I deserve my happiness back

I agree they will not take us serious or know what we are going through until the been through it and I don't wish for my worst enemy to go through this everyday pain... This Hip Replacement was suppose to make things better not worse therefore these doctors need to do their jobs which should be to make us at least 90% better because I know they can't fix it completely I am so sorry you are going through this happiness is all I want as well I want to be able to go on dates hang out with friends and so forth I'm young I'm suppose to be enjoying life not miserable all the time this year for my 21st birthday I am stuck going to a doctors appointment instead of enjoying it

I wish the very best I'm young should be bow hunting hiking out living instead of the pain and hell I'm in.
