Just a quick note to wish you success in your recovery and to say thank you so much for sharing your painful journey. My once formerly healthy and fit son is now going through the same nightmare. Apparently the surgeon put quite a lot of mesh in him and also cut and fit pieces...totally inconsistent with the directions! I'm wondering how much mesh you had removed. Would you have the mesh removed if you had the chance to do it again?

In total I had 3 surgeries on the one hernia.
I have just started a physiotherapy program to get my strength back as I am very skinny and not fit because of this.
Yes I am glad I had the mesh out.

Thank you Adele for the information you have shared on this forum. It was the responses it generated which directed me to the excellent UK surgeon who removed my mesh 10 weeks ago and I am grateful for that. It's a journey which too many people seem to be suffering across the globe, some silently because they don't know where to go with it . My best wishes and hope you continue to see an improvement in your pain

Hi, I'm new to this, but it has been over-whelming the info you are all sharing with each other and the support.
My husband has been suffering for years with groin pain following a number of hernia repairs. He had to stop work, we lost our house, and our life was turned up side down! He has been through the pain clinic and even residential input pain management in London for a month! And only now I've started hearing about the pain caused by the mesh that I believe this is his problem. He has had all scans, test etc and the docs just say they are clear and that he is just suffering with 'Chronic Pain'
No one has EVER mentioned about the mesh before ( I guess because they are the ones that put it in!) Please could you give me any advice on where to turn to for someone to actually consider that mesh could be the cause and that he needs it removed. We live in Essex, UK. Who was the surgeon you used? Any advice would be great, I don't want my husband to give up!

Hi Ju, I'm also a recent addition to the site but found the info sharing really helpful. I'm so sorry to hear of the dreadful affect this has had on your life, I also suffered without understanding it was the mesh, but I've been lucky my employment has been understanding and secure. The surgeon who placed mine was also dismissive of chronic mesh pain and refused to even discuss it, even though I was in agony within weeks and pain medication offered no respite. Nothing showed on any scan. My quality of life was non existent. When I finally understood my problem and saw the surgeon who removed it, his first response was " the mesh needs to come out" . If you can I would suggest you try to see him, I was lucky my employment has private health care, but he said he would still do it even if they wouldn't pay . His name is Prof Aali Sheen , based in Manchester . He is a lovely man and brilliant surgeon, I wish I'd seen him sooner! Removal is not without problems, as you've probably already picked up from the forum, I still have a fair bit of pain and my mobility is not where it should be, but it's early days and definitely a massive improvement. Good luck , I hope your husband can find some respite and you can turn your life back round.

Hello Jennifer, sorry to hear you are suffering so much.
I have had 3 surgeries for inguinal hernia repair. The first mesh was used and my illioinguinal nerve cut on purpose to put in the mesh. I was never told nerves would be voluntarily sacrificed to place the mesh. This was the start of my nightmare journey. I have since had the mesh removed and completion of triple neurectomy, but I am still having various degrees of pain from mild to extreme. The pain can be around the surgical scar, up to my butt cheek and inner thigh. When it is at it's worst I can't function. I am currently on a new physiotherapy routine to gain strength because I haved aquired adductor tendinosis and there is enesothapy inflamation at my pubic ramus because my body is so unconditioned since the surgeries.
I do not know of any doctors in the USA besides Dr Kevin Peterson in Las Vegas who will remove mesh. Goggle him.
I am having some good days since the mesh was out and I am trying to stay positive there will eventually be more good days than bad and the pain may go away all together.
I think once the groin/inguinal area is damaged through surgery and mesh placement, just removing the mesh does not solve the whole problem for everyone if the nerves are injured.
Please keep in touch and good luck with getting better.

Thank you for responding,I am so frustrated!! I have had the triple neurectomy surgery as well and sill have a lot of pain, I live on pain meds and now I have fluid build up at the surgery site and pubic area. My doctor has ordered another scan. I have had multiple injections at 500.00 each injection. I have read that the scans do not show much so I don't know what do do! I have a 4,000 deductible that just rolled over so the scan will be costly. I have also read the mesh is linked to sever headaches and since the mesh has been placed I suffer from sever migraines. I just want this mesh out!!!!! But then again the thought of the mesh removal surgery terrifies me!!! Have a wonder day, I hope it is a pain free one!!!
