Restless legs syndrome

Please, please, please, go to your doctor and ask for Ropinarole if you have this distressing condition called Restless Leg Syndrome. I had this for at least 20 years and I truly believe it has affected my entire health. I was severely anaemic, depressed, had rectal bleeding constantly and I had breast cancer diagnosed two years ago.

I had tried everything!! Tamazapine and diazapine were the strongest medications I had but I was still awake in tears at 4a.m. having not slept! All this and I was working full time. I was shattered.

Eventually I was put on Ropinarole. The very FIRST day releived my restless legs! My husband and I could not believe it. I have since gone from strength to strength. I SLEEP! Rectal bleeding has gone - which has resulted in less stress, better behaved bowels which have created a very healthy blood count. I do not feel so depressed and find I can do so much more.

Get to your doctor now and try this. IT HAS CHANGED MY LIFE!!!!

I have suffered with Sleepless legs from I was in my teens, I am now 65 and my doctor gave me gabapentin 300 mg.   I find that the dose would need increased but they wont increase it.   So I guess 300mg will have to do better than nothing at all. I do understand how you all feel. It is a terrible thing

RLS really is one of the most horrible conditions that exists.. I would much rather have a lethal disease that ends my life, than suffer horribly like this for my entire life. I've had three suicide attempts so far, and I've only suffered from RLS for about eight years. At time the feeling is so unbearable that I can't help but scream until I fall unconscious from exhaustion a few days later. I guess RLS various from case to case, but the doctor says mine is very extreme. I am on very high doses of morphine daily, but it doesn't work anymore.

It's only when you read other people's stories you see it could be worse .I am sorry that yours is so bad .over the last year I have, through desperation gone through my diet and lifestyle with a fine toothcomb .I have stopped drinking tea and coffee which has improved my sleep which has made the days easier to cope with and have tried to remove all the stress from my life ie changed my job and its working I can go days now without a attack and when it does happen I can pin point what caused It.I accept I have been really lucky but I did this out of desperation as it was ruining my life and like you just wanted to die at times and the worse is if you have never suffered with it you just cannot grasp what it's like .I was put on this path by a young locum doctor who suffered from rls and he completely understood .try it I really hope with all my heart it works for you too .

I have severe restless leg syndrome. I had gone from doctor to doctor, yet noone was able to help me. I was told there was a doctor at John Hopkins in Maryland that was the guru of RLS. He put me on Methadone. That was three years ago. It worked but the stigma that goes along with taking Methadone is terrible. Now my insurance is trying to decrease the amount they'll pay for. I decided to just taper myself off of it. I am down by 50 mgs. and now on 30 mgs. I'm back to having severe RLS and not sleeping, which was my big fear. I've been taking Mirapex, unfortunarely it's just not helping. I'm interested in how everyone else is dealing with this awful condition. I believe I tried Roprinale in the past, but willing to give it another try! Does it have many side effects? I would appreciate any suggestions! Thanks so much everyone!!!

I'm very happy for you! What a relief to find something that works! Not getting enough, often very little to evenings with zero sleep can certainly effect your health and mood big time! Good luck to you! Can you tell me the strength you're on? Thanks!!!!'

I'm still taking Pramipexole (miripexin) daily plus 30mg of dihydracodene with it every evening. it takes about 3 hours to take proper effect. I then get a full nights sleep. Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) is caused by a defficiency of a chemical called Diopomine in the brain. There is no cure but certain drugs like pramipexole and ropinerole will increase the secretion od diopomine into the brain. 1 in 10 people aparrently suffer from RLS in varying types of severity.

Ropinrole worked for me for quite a while.  Began on 1 mg and it knocked me out cold for about a year within an hour of taking it.  I cut down the amount and found it still worked.  But have had augmentation a couple of times and higher doseage gives me awful headaches.  I was on .25 and worked well but am having to now increase again.  I switch to Gabapentin for a while letting my system get used to no Ropinrole.  After a few weeks it worked again.  It's finding a substitute when augmentation sets in.  I also add Robaxin, a muscle relaxant and Norco pain killer as the pain at times is miserable when augmentation begins.  I do still head for a HOT shower with water flowing on my legs to numb the nerves - in conjunction with the above meds and that seems to allow me to fall asleep with decrease or elimination of pain.

My dad and sister have RLS also but much milder than mine. I went from doctor to doctor and noone was able to find a medication to control my RLS. I was exhausted, I had it 24/7, I was desperate to sleep. I saw a doctor that was supposedly the guru of RLS. He put me on Methadone, which did work, however, I've been on it for so long that I decided to try to taper off. Not easy!!! I was on 90 mgs. a day and now I'm down to 30. The RLS is kicking in again. I'm not sure if it's a side effect of getting off of the Methadone or if I'm going to be right back where I started. Just hate being dependent on such a heavy duty medication. Not sure if I can take something else for the RLS while getting off of the Methadone. I just know I'm exhausted but I would love to be off of that in order to try again with something that will not cause me to become addicted to it! Perhaps I just needed a high dose of Ropinrole? I've had awful insomnia as well which I was prescribed Klonopin for, it really doesn't even make me tired anymore. Another med I would like to get off of! Thank you for all the ideas! I've tried meds for RLS and they would work for a few weeks and no sooner augmentation set in. I don't understand why. It's extremely frustrating!!!
