Return of severe pain

Posted , 11 users are following.

It is now 5 months since I had my hips replaced.   It has been going fairly well, albeit limited due to knee problems.

?However this last 48 hours I have been suffering with pain around the new joints, bending is a no go the agony on getting straight is not worth it.

I told my GP and he just smiled.... gave me more pain killers.... really...

?Physio in 4 weeks time ...

?Has anyone else gone backwards at this stage... I feel like I am back to the first month of recovery.   I have been doing my exercises new and old ones but last night even with Tramadol and Nyproxin no sleep due to pain.

?My best friends are back out of the boot of the car as walking is impossible without them..... had got down to either nothing or just a walking stick for longer walks.

One fed up hippie, who needs to get stronger soon, husband due to have his tumour removed from his lung in February followed by 6 months of chemo...... nothing else can surely go wrong for me.

?Sorry needed to let off steam!!! cry

Hi Elaine, it is 5 months since my partial hip op - I too seem to be taking one step forward and two back?? Now I have groin pain and still unable to walk unaided - need my walker for long 'journeys' and cane for just a few yards, Still walking with a limp. I was not given any exercises to do so wonder IF I should be doing them? Hope all goes well with your husband's op - keep smiling and don't give up.

    Best Wishes XXXX

Can't believe you were not given any exercises. You need therapy and fast

Hi Steve, I thought maybe it was because I had a partial replacement (I fell and broke my hip) that I was not given any? All the doc said after my last check-up was that maybe I could use a cycle. As I am an 80 year young I think cycling a no no. We do have an exercise bike but I would have thought this would be too vigorous?? I've looked on the internet but there are so many and I don't want to do further damage - my next x-ray and check-up not until late March????

      Regards

Cycling really, I have been told not to do this and I am 56 yrs young.   I know my mother friend 84 yrs old was told to start cycling, something she had never done.. GP's are not like they were...

Hi Elaine, really sorry for you. Do you think that you've just been overdoing it a bit? Could you have a restful few days, and see if the pain lessens? I'm 6 months and have had quite an unusually achy week. Wishing you all the best.

Not over done it, drove last weekend 2hrs each way but felt fine, would it really take this long to hit me...  think it maybe the cold weather, although thought that would stop with two new hips.  Going to take it easy over the weekend see how I go, if no better then will contact the Consultant .. luckily I have a very approachable one

Hi Elaine,I am so sorry for you.I feel for you.I did my hip through choose&book but on the NHS.But it's a tough op.To be honest mine has failed as I didn't have enough aftercare being a carer. And had no time for rest.It can take over two years to get back to normal.Where in the UK are You? Regards Amanda

Thank you Amanda I am in Eastbourne but went to hospital out of area  for my operation due to the problems here with the hospital and that being under 60 they would not consider replacement hips.

I have only been getting physio every 3.4 weeks which is not enough having had both done at the sametime, and the issues I have with my knees...

Will speak to consultant as looks like another night of no sleep... tried for 2hrs to no avail the pain is to much and my leg goes numb when I lay down... nerve issue...

It is so horrible isn't it..... told to do more but then this..have had inflamation which I got cleared up, but again another night I unsuccessful sleep... just taken more drugs to hopefully enable some sleep tonight.   I have been told it is my back and to be honest if I walk without any aid after a short time my back does hurt... so back to my best friends the crutches, as walking sticks do not help me.

Dr is sending me to a pain management Dr for my back I hope it helps. I use my Cane  at night when I get up it hurts so bad. Someone on here told me to get a mars MRI it shows the new hip better but not sure if Dr will do it. I do find when I do get up and start moving I feel better but takes awhile . I am 62 and want to get back to living.  Take care

    hi elaine,

    so discouraging, isn't it?

I understand that you saw your GP, but how about your surgeon? could you go back and see him? perhaps get a new x-ray taken to see if the hardware is in place and healing well?

you had 2 hips replaced at the same time ... 5 months is not that long post-op from this major surgery ... double, in your case -

How about using a rollator, 4 wheeled walker, instead of crutches or sticks, for now ?  It takes a lot of effort for your body to get and keep you balanced -

oh yes, the cold weather is not helping either ---

let us know how you are getting on okay ... good decision to lie low this weekend ..

    big warm hug

I would try a walker but physio has said that I would just transfer my dependancy and that would not be a good thing....

As you know the surgeon is my daughters brother in law, so message will get to him today.

I think it maybe scar tissue so I have now booked a course of massage to work on the area.

Got to bed around 3.30am after taking more medication... which I have been off now for over a month.

Will try and get back on top of this..

not a normal 4 pegged walker, but a 4 wheeled walker aka rollator - I agree, you would tranfer your depence but more equally (if you know what I mean) - to me that was far more stable than any other device - easier to stay balanced - making sure i was not leaning too hard -- it is a skill though and at times my wrists hurt redface-

how are you feeling today ?

      angel blessings
