HI, I've had treadworms for almost 5 years now! Ive been eating loads of Opex and Mebendazole. I tried the pumpkin seeds and eaten garlic every day for months...I've also gone up to the Hospital for Tropical Diseases In London to see a specialist for the last 8 months....All their treatment has not worked either. It always comes back! My husband or my two children have never had it and we dont have any pets....I keep a very clean house and im so careful with my hygiene...What can i do to get rid of these? Help Please.....Its driving me insane!

Hi folks just wondering if anyone has found a 'cure' yet?
I have posted before but it was deleted (probably swearing or something). I'm coming up to a year of this now. Taken a load of Ovex, totally given up with the meticulous cleaning as this was never an issue when I've had them before and got cured with medication. Totally annoyed and fed up with them and my GP right now as he just keeps prescribing the same ovex rubbish and telling me to wash everything 24/7 (which is no way to live). I have just had a blood test for something else (painful lungs) and when I rang up for the results they asked me if I drank alcohol in excess?? Yes I do drink but not a lot and have never had a bad blood test, so now I'm thinking the ovex has caused me liver or kidney damage, I've yet to talk to my GP as we're waiting for an xray for my lungs which is what I had a blood test for. I don't bother telling him I still have worms as it just makes me more despondent and cross when he makes out I'm just unhygienic. I'm feeling pretty low right now. I can cope for a while then it's just too much especially when I'm trying to give up drinking and smoking, just feel like I'm gonna die somehow soon.
Hope you all find a cure soon.

Hi there
I have no idea why GPs are so badly informed. When I went for the initial appointment with the consultant who referred me for the camera-up-the-bottom procedure he was stunned to hear that I get worms regularly. He was even more stunned that I had actually seen them - and he's meant to be an expert in all things to do with bowels!

Hello. I got a bad liver function reading after taking a herbal paracleanse bought online alongside Ovex and moderate drinking. They made me stop everything for a month over Christmas (killer!) then I had a scan that showed nothing. So hopefully this is a one off that will go back to normal like me. Because of this I’m really careful when I take Ovex and make sure it’s not near the weekend when it’s more than likely I will drink. I feel exactly the same as you in that I stopped bothering telling medical professionals because their reactions are mostly worst than having the actual worms. On another note, why is it mostly women on this chat? Do men get them like us and if not, why? X

I know, it's like it's just mildly irritating or just not important. But when you can't sleep properly for years it is very detrimental. I think there needs to be more correlation between GPs, some sort of data bank of all incidences (of anything) and then they can see the scale of the problem and any other similar factors. This could be easily done these days with computers and still maintain confidentiality. Anyway that's if I ruled the world, etc.
I'm almost convinced that worms are getting immune to the ovex medicine; I had a similar bout of worms about 5 years ago, the ovex didn't work and was then prescribed Pripsen which did. You can't get it now so I am looking into pet medications which contain piprizine. It only paralyses them but maybe if the worms just get moved on to somewhere they don't like then that may be enough.
Thanks for replying Brychni. Take care. vx

Yes I had the same issue, the bowel specialist I saw said that the worms don't move and are too small to see with the naked eye, ha! I just kept my mouth shut and let him say his bit, all the while thinking to myself " well you clearly know nothing about worms" .

Considering we are the "hosts" to these pests we don't seem to have very much control.

I am still so sick with these! I think they're immune to meds. I've been on albendazole pills not even a dent. Tried valbenza and that hasn't worked. Do they water it down?
I'm so depressed. Not doing things I want to do for fear of spreading these. I won't use a bathroom other than my own. Husband uses different bathroom and different bed room. Taking it's tole on our marriage. I felt like Doctor blames me for recontamination and yet would not prescribe more. Husbands not sick so how do I take all these meds, and simply stay sick with these if they're not somehow embedded in my intestines or other organs? I do all the cleaning, washing, using a uvc light, cancelled 2 vacations. Can't cancel the next, prepaid a year ago, before all of this... freaking out over that. I showered 7 times day before yestetday. Still changing sheets daily... nope, don't shake anything. I'm hopeless. My kids are grown, they don't know. Because of the drugs I'm developing alopecia. No eye brows, eye lashes. Dirty secret. And as harmless as any Dr can say they are, they're killing me. Im afraid to go to another, tired of being humiliated. I know how i got them and it wasn't from not washing my hands. That person has had them a few times, cooked for us! OTC meds worked for them. I have no advice. Realizing I'm not a freak, others out there still battling is slightly reassuring but it's just not a club I want to be in anymore. Any advice is welcome. Im sorry last night was bad and I'm simply mentally and physically exhausted.

Hello. I think you need to go back to living a normal life because this is no good for anyone. I really believe that all the cleaning and sheet washing in the world won't help some sufferers. I say this because for 6 months I wore knickers and leggings to bed which I then put in the bin. No shaking, washing or even touching with bare hands and I still had them - this is when I realised that maybe they were reproducing inside of me. I've had them 8 years and my husband has only ever had them once in that time which he then got rid off within a week. I go to bed in knickers and leggings which I keep in a separate box to be washed separately. In the morning I get straight in the shower and use a nail brush. You need to go on holiday, sleep with your husband and try hard to not let this ruin your life. Know that you are not alone, you are not dirty, you're just unlucky. I know how shameful and lonely it can make you feel so keep coming back to this chat group and hopefully you'll start to live again. Best of luck x

Thank you so much for the support. I do need to get back to my life, im afraid to expose anyone.
Do you still try dif drugs, or para clease?
I use bins for all my clothes too. A seperate one for my towels, for bedding. My life is daily washing everything in Hot water, dry hot too. Ive lost about 10 pounds in a few months lol. Not even exercising. So clothes that ive shrunk still fit. Ive tried every drug I can purchase that Ive researched. Stay on them for extended periods. Thinking something will kick in. Blaming myself, believing I must be recontaminating. Never turn the exhaust fan in bathroom on. Leave the UVC light on in different rooms through out the day. Living in the states I cant afford the perscription prices if I could prove to the Dr I still have these. Albendazole is over $400.00 a pill!
How do you remedy the itch, especially at night?
Thanks for any insight. My manta is 'I lovingly take my power and eliminate all ineffectiveness.' Louise Hay on parasites. Maybe I need to add to that.

Hi nedra
I think from reading all these comments that if you've tried the drugs and they don't work first or second time then they probably aren't ever going to work so I wouldn't waste your money on them.
I think eating sugary and refined carbohydrates make worms more active as this is what they live off.
When I'm really itchy I apply tea tree oil, it stings a bit but that's often a welcome alternative to the itch and also it's meant to kill any worms.

That's good to hear it wasn't permanent damage, I'm definitely not taking anymore ovex even though it did kind of help for a week or so.
Yes I was wondering the same about it affecting women and when I got them 5 years ago I read that they will enter the vagina, whether they can reproduce there I don't know. Or maybe men just don't talk about it?
Also someone mentioned getting candida, I'm sort of thinking that sometimes this is what is making me itch but I've never had it in my bumhole before. BUT then again I've never taken loads of ovex before. Think there may be a connection there, it would make sense that an anti parasitic drug would also leave you open to a yeast infection.

I found this very interesting
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2018/03/180309095506.htm
It isn't about threadworm but could apply! It's worth a read.
It leads me to wonder if those affected have a gut imbalance of some sort. ?!

Hi laura yes that's very interesting and reinforces my belief that ovex and the like are actually making it worse. I stopped taking it about 3 months ago, got quite wormy initially but gradually got less and have been pretty much worm free for about 2 months now, fingers crossed that's it. But I have also been paying more attention to what I'm eating. I try and avoid sweet stuff and refined carbs, and also I'm having smoothies with ginger, turmeric and fenugreek in. I also have loads of black pepper on nearly everything. And coconut yogurt which is yum and also because I reckon my gut bacteria isn't brilliant most of the time. I do drink quite a lot of wine on occasion and I'm wondering if that messes with my gut bacteria??

Hi v98544
Yes it is very interesting isn't it. I agree re ovex.
I've not taken it for a while, it's not really made any difference.
Yes I believe that it could be related to gut flora. Before I got them I had been on antibiotics quite a lot and indigestion remedies too plus lack of exercise, all things that can deplete good gut flora which make it more hospitable for invaders!!!
I'm also working on my diet. I'd like to add good prebiotics and probiotics to my diet and get my sluggish bowels moving more too. There has to be an answer to this for all of us.
Does anyone else get times when they see lots more mucus ? ( Sorry to be gross)
