REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????

Posted , 385 users are following.

I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM".  The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc".  You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up.  I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now.  I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday.  As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens.  Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them.  It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue.  My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

My father had this operation February 2021 and following the procedure, he had various catheter problems. He wasn't releasing the requested volume of fluid so the catheter stayed In place for a few weeks, whilst in place, subsequent infections occurred, blood in urine etc. Again the catheter was removed and had to be refitted after 3 days. He had his follow up appoint 3 months later and even after saying about the infections, etc, he was discharged. From the time of the procedure, his general health started to go down hill. Fatigue, reoccurring infections in various parts of the body, aching joints and muscle pain, night sweats, weight loss, swelling of his feet and hands and chills. This contained and gradually got so severe they suspected Cancer so was referred to a rapid diagnostic team. Scans followed and a various tests where they finally diagnosed him 3 weeks ago with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia. Given the extreme pain he was in, this didn't ring true and 1 week ago he had shortness of breath where an ambulance was called. Again, his body was riddled with various infections and they couldn't get a grip of the situation with antibiotics. More tests followed and finally a heart scan. It now has been found that my father has subacute Endocarditis (infection of the aortic valve) and the doctors has said most probable cause..... the length of time the catheter was in, infections he had from it after the procedure. My dad and family have been through 6 months of hell from this procedure and now waiting to see what long term damage it has done to his heart. STAY WELL AWAY FROM THIS

I had Rezum done 7/8/21, its now 4 weeks post procedure and it seem to have worked as i am able to pee normally. I now have no sex drive, not able to get hard, so very upset.

Very angry and upset with the outcome as i would rather have continued with self catheterizing than loose sexual functions. now I'm depressed by the whole situation

WTF! I had Rezūm being told it was no big deal. To hear you, are you saying that my option is to have a procedure (TURP) I would never have agreed to? This is upsetting to me. This whole experience has deeply affected my life!

    rezum done on 9/23/21.

ABSOLUTE AGONY!! Done with no anasthesia at all, except for the prostate block and ultrasound, which was very painful on its own. 6 injections and median lobe too. Catheter for 3 days, removed at home.

since then, 3 weeks now, im in agony. Extremely painful to urinate, im going about 20+ times a day, each time is more painful than the next. Barely sleeping, 3-4 hours a night and i spend the day in pain.

Finally got an appt with the doc who did it yesterday, totally unsympathetic. He was more concerned to tell me that he has "done over 100 of the rezum procedures and have never seen or heard of anyone recovering 3 weeks later. Everyone recovers within 2-3 days."

I referred to this forum and the thousands of similar comments here. Basically, it seems that initial recovery is about 2-6 weeks. He then told me "guess you have 3 weeks of recovery left then." He suggested motrin as an anti inflamitory and told me itll heal over time.

Maybe the final result will be good, time will tell, till then, go into this with eyes wide open. Very painful and very long and painful recovery.

What you are describing is what I've been going through for the last 7-1/2 months. I was scoped again 6 weeks ago due to the continued painful urination and he said I had some tissue growth that was more than likely the culprit due to the extreme reduction in size of my prostate. He determined that the urine once leaving the bladder was tumbling in an area prior to moving down the urethra and this tissue needed to be removed. He removed that tissue a month ago and the painful urination is still there. As a matter of fact, today I p****d blood into the urinal at a football game and clots popped out as well. What a nightmare.

unfortunately I experienced having retroejaculation after the Rezūm procedure. My urologist and PA both minimized the possibility of this taking place and pretty much made a joke of it. I have not only experienced that, but I have also been having severe painful urination every since having the surgery. when I say painful, I mean growling and grabbing onto something. they tell me it's due to bladder spasms. No they give me pills to help with bladder spasms. So much for trying to avoid pills. This has been a nightmare for me.

didn't work for me at all, matter of fact, it totally broke all penis functions, still pee a weak stream, stream will go hard left or right, super urgency, no more sex, (i was fine before procedure) cannot get an erection even with 100mg Viagra, all kinds of urination issues, burning, peeing one self (now over 30 times)

cannot go out and drink any more, and always have to pee when I sit for a while, and get up. Have to run to bathroom, and many times I leak quite a bit while trying to get to a facility.

I should have never, ever got this "procedure" it completely took me out of being "social" with a woman. Lost my wife, took a girl on a cruise, and had Viagra, though I was going to be good. She broke up the morning after we got home. The DR doesn't want to hear about it, acts like this is all normal and gets mad if I ask any questions. I'm sure I'll be wearing diapers soon.

No attorneys will bring a lawsuit either. What's going on??

Thought I would Share my Rezum experience.

Had it done Nov 2021. Cost was $6k Can.

Procedure was in a clinic and I had twilight anaestesia. Catheter for 7 days.

Upon catheter removal, my flow was considerably better. After two weeks, I had better flow but I felt like I had a UTI...pain and burning during urination. Went to emerg and got antibiotics. Two weeks later, symptoms still persisted. Went to doctor, got blood and urine tested... and no UTI.

Urine flow started to get worse as time passed. Three months later, flow is terrible with increased frequency and physical discomfort. (Strong urgency to pee, increased frequency, less volume, and burning sensation in urinary tract near end of voiding.)

After three months, flow would stop uncontrolably midstream and some pain in urinary tract. On five occasions, chunks of brown tissue found in urine. Size varies from couple millimeters to over 1/2 inch. Some flow improvement immediately after but shortlived. Very nervous and in process of seeking medical attention. I will update.

I was all set to schedule my Rezum treatment today and went with my final questions. So I did not realize how many people have had issues and long recovery times. The main question which stopped me was whether there was evidence of ED (erectile dysfunction). I saw where a doctor was recently reporting that a study found that men who already had evidence of erectile dysfunction had progressively more after Rezum. But he claimed that those men who did not have issues before did not have any after treatment. The nurse I asked at the Urologists office said the there are reports of 13% erectile dysfunction after the procedure. With it being that high I am surprised that a word search on this thread did not bring up any results.

I have 64cc now and she suggested that I would get just 6 shots with 3 in each side lobe. I do not have any significant median lobe. So I suggested that to reduce the risk of nerve damage I would request just 4 shots (2 in each lateral lobe). So much less that I am reading but my volume is relatively low.

I will likely put it off for some time. My goal is to stop the flomax every night. I have just started self cath and was successful on the 3rd try. Just a drop of blood in there and burning for a half hour to an hour after with urge to go but already empty. So I have some confidence I am not headed to the ER with blockage. Worst case I find that it takes 20 to 25 minutes some nights to start the flow but this is rare.

Anyway, are there any reports here of erectile dysfunction after Rezum? By the way, I think the coude tip cut the urethra so I used the rounded tip. Maybe I should look for a really soft coude tip.

Are you confusing ED, Erectile dysfunction with RE, Retrograde Ejaculation? 13% might be about right for RE but not ED.

A little blood is normal the first few times you use a catheter. You could try the red rubber type catheters with external lube, KY Jelly. They are softer but require holding the catheter with your fingers which can cause infection unless your fingers are very clean, try cleaning them with alcohol.

Cure makes a softer coude catheter that needs external lube. It is just stiff enough that it can be inserted without handling with fingers. I think the number is M12C.

After you have used catheters for more than a week, you can use just about any catheter without bleeding.

Hi TKM, I met with a jerk Urologist in AZ this week and wanted to discuss the "less is more" reports for Rezum. I say jerk because he did not listen to me and shrugged off the 13% erectile dysfunction I mentioned up front. He did not dispute the 13% figure and would not break it down and said as men age this is what happens. The first nurse I spoke to was the same and said the ED just depends on the condition of the patient. I found three relevant reports that claim that a 1 or 2 injections per side produced the same results as 3 or 4. That is to say that there was no way to show statistically that more injections produce better results. I wanted to see this Urologist would offer 1 injection per lobe (lateral lobes) but he said he would not work with me and offered no follow up. In any case, the studies suggested that there is no correlation between the number of injections and the reduction in size of the prostate. Rather it suggested that more injections increase the risk of side effects. BUT there is a correlation between reduction in prostate size and improvement in symptoms (see third link below).
