REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????

Posted , 385 users are following.

I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM".  The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc".  You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up.  I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now.  I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday.  As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens.  Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them.  It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue.  My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

Had this procedure five days ago.  I wasn't sure I needed it.  Although I had BPH symptoms and was not totally emptying my bladder I could sleep through the night.

I was put under using the Michael Jackson drug.  It's funny I can never remember falling asleep with that drug.  It  hits me so fast.

Woke up.  No real pain just a burning sensation to urinate and a cathider.

You know the feeling when you have to pee real bad after a long drive?  When you finally get to a bathroom and just before you  getthe  pleasurable relief of Ahh you have that   intense uncomfortable feeling just a split second before you go.   Yes that feeling.    It felt like that non stop without a Ahhhh.

That lasted most of the day but did get better.  Sleeping with a catheter was omg.   On Wednesday morning about 48 hours later I took it out.

Could pee a little.  Some blood.   Later was able to urinate through out the day.   Was not as good as before I had the procedure.

Thursday night it got bad.  Almost nothing would come out. By the AM I was afraid I would have to go to the doctor office but it got better and I took Naproxin and started taking flow max again.

Friday a little better. Still way worse than before sugery.

I tell patients that it is a healing experience.

The first 4-6 weeks your symptoms will likely not be better.

Most patients have been delighted by month 3 or so.

We have been offering urethral stents the first 3 weeks after the procedure for some patients to help with the process

What is it with these docs that perform this procedure and don't give their patients any info about what to expect after and for how long? How can you possibly do that with anything close to a clear conscience?

I certainly can't speak for other doctors.

Anything you do to the prostate will have an effect- it's just a question of how long.

The stent sounds like a good idea, but I'll bet it's painful to remove it from a still sore prostate. Is that a problem?

I sent an email to the company yesterday explaining my situation and discuss. They have actually emailed me back asking for my contact information so they can call and talk with me directly. I am awaiting a call now.

    Hi guys,

Tomorrow will mark 60 days post Rezum. You may have already read from my previous posts that I have not benefited from having the Rezum procedure to date - in fact I am worse then before the procedure even at 60 days in.

I am still suffering from this weird pain even after receiving antibiotics a week ago from my urologist. Flow sucks!

I am still suffering from a numbed feeling during intercourse and have really not had much interest in sex since the procedure. I was suffering from retro-dry ejaculations so I stopped the Rapaflo and 2 weeks later still dry.

However yesterday day 59 I tried the pipes out and got pure bright red blood. This was fresh blood. Not think brown old blood. So I have no idea what that means.

Maybe I am still healing and nothing has been absorbed so I have benefited and in this next month things will begin to change, This is my hope. But part of me says that at 60 days to not be even a slight bit improvement is  sign that this procedure was not right for me and may have caused an even bigger problem or more problems than I was experiencing.

Have any of you that had this done  - had this take this long and still not have a benefit (60 days) in?

JerseyUrologyGR can you give me your experience here where I am at 60 days?

    Thanks

God I feel so sorry for you my friend.  You would think about a procedure you would see improvement in 30 days.  I know what Jersey going to tell you.  You should see some improvement in 90 day  we will see.  It may take you a few more weeks for you to be off Rapaflo.  You may see some but you will not have a lot of a ejaculation if you get any back.  Good luck  Ken  PS  I don't think you should still be bleeeding

      I had rezume 12/15/2016

I'm still mad I did it.  I still get up three times at night! I don't pee as much during the day. That is good!

I also ejaculation a large amount and after sex it just keeps coming out.... Very odd at 59 to have that much sperm come out of me.  I feel that it took me months to get over the operation and not really any better. I fired the Dr that did it to me. He was awful and did'nt care what happened after the operation. He just kept telling me I would get better. All he wanted to do was all these test that cost tons of $$$. So I stopped going and want go back to this doctor. So would I reccomened this type of surgery the answer would be NO! I started this group about REZUM!!!!!!!!

The nocturia probably isn't related to the procedure. That could be related to an undiagnosed issue or overactive bladder. Would recommend getting evaluated- obviously by a different urologist.

Congratulations on still having a lot of ejaculation!

@leon: I'm still mad I did it.  I still get up three times at night!

      ----------------

A lot of people blame their nocturia either on bph or on a failed bph operation or procedure. In many cases they are wrong.

If you want to start finding the cause of your nocturia, due a 24 hour void log, noting the amount of each void in ml and the time. If over 40% of your urine production is at night time, then the cause of your nocturia may be other than your prostate. Knowing you PVR (post void residual) can also help. If nocturia was a major element in getting Rezum, your urologist should have done a void log prior to the procedure so that you would not have had false expectations.

What kind of and how much pain do most of your patients experience during their first four to six weeks after Rezum ? Also what's the average time before returning to work- for a teacher as an example?

      Thanks

Most men will have frequency and urgency the first few weeks. Discomfort is not unusual, either.

They can return to work the next day but I usually recommend no heavy lifting for a week.

Many will take a few days off

A lot of this depends on what kind of work you do and how fast you get back to normal function. I needed a catheter for over 2 weeks (fortunately my doc was cool with self cathing) and wasn't really OK for 5. You can go back to work If...you can function at work with a catheter of some kind, you can go every hour and you don't have to travel. I got stuck on a runway after 3 1/2 weeks for 3 hours (I still had quite a bit of urgency then) and I was in agony.

I'm glad I had this done, but the recovery was longer and more inconvenient than advertised. Many bounce back more quickly, but you don't know til after.
