REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????
Posted , 385 users are following.
I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM". The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc". You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up. I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now. I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday. As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens. Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them. It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue. My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

At 80 gms urologist said to large for Uro lift. Went off the medication to shrink it. Starting to feel more pressure. Really don’t want to go back on those pills, bad side effects. This sucks, nobody can give clear directions what to do, and why? Help😡😡

D Gee I would go see another doctor that does Urolift. Why would they tell you that it is to big at 80 gm. 80 gm is the cut off. He is trying to get you to have another procedure. Take charge of your life It's your body. Ken

Rezum would work too. Don't do Holep or TURP

Do you think maybe I should take the medication and try to shrink the size from 80 g to maybe 65, before a eur lift.
An the doctorate told me he would not do the euro lift. does resume and uro lift?
i'm in New Jersey, he told me my insurance company will not cover the euro lift. Does anyone have any idea what it would cost out-of-pocket?
I guess the uro lift is the least evasive. There are many in New Jersey that perform the uro lift. I wonder what different prices I would get from them for paying out of pocket. But rest of sure I would not pick the cheapest doctor 🤞🙏

D I don'y know about other states. How old are you. Check with your insurance It is approved by the FDA. Like I told you before 80 id the cut off for Urolift. That doctor should not refuse you because you are at the cut off. Try getting it down by 5 or 10 g But if he tells you no. Get another doctor. Remember he may be the doctor but you are the patients and it is your body Good Luck Ken

Dee Gee, You should ask "JeseyUrology" some of these questions. He is a Urologist from New Jersey who follows this web site.

Just wondering... what do you have against HoLep... IF it is appropriate?
My Doc thinks it is great, but for me... recommends UroLift at this point... HoLep later, if needed...
A guy DOES need to make darn sure the Doc is qualified and experienced in the HoLep... or it can probably end up a mess...

@Tucsonjj: Just wondering... what do you have against HoLep... IF it is appropriate?
HoLep looks like another laser form of TURP with the same incidents of complications. From the American Journal of Clinical and Experimental Urology, April 2015:
Retrograde ejaculation was equally common after HoLEP (50-96%) and TURP (50-86%). In a Danish study of 108 HoLEP patients, 70% had retrograde ejaculation at 6 months post-operatively...
Other than the advantages of cauterizing as it cuts (or seals as it slices), resulting in less bleeding and a faster recovery time, it looks like HoLEP is about as bad as standard TURP when it comes to complications. But then standard TURP is an old procedure...

Thanks... I knew that HoLep very likely will result in some or total retro ejac... but if in really bad shape, prostate wise... might be worth it... I read that it is one of the few procedures that likely will not need a follow up procedure in however many years...
I have read articles that disagree with your comparison with TURP, in terms of complications, follow-ups, etc... can't post links here, but try searching Holep vs turp... and read the article from the well regarded US National Library of Medicine/
National Institutes of Health
For me... other procedures make more sense for now... maybe if I last to 80...

An update on my Rezum procedure from December of 2017. My bladder still void fine but I often still have urinary tract pain. The doctor said that it should go away within a few months, but it is still here 9 months later. It flairs up particularly when I have active - bumpy car ride or riding lawn mower, long walk, riding motorcycle, sports. Now my doctor says that somehow I got nerve damage from the Rezum procedure and he doesn't know how to treat it. Last week I received a Trasrectal Steroid Injection. I think that my doctor was hoping to block the pain symptoms because he said that, anatomically, I'm just fine. Well, the injection has not been successful. I still suffer from a lot of pain requiring me to sit for long periods for the pain to subside.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had these symptoms. When they thread a large instrument up your urethra, I would think that there could be all kinds of problems.

Sorry to hear you are going through this. Nerves sometimes need up to 18 months to regenerate if that's the issue.

David I think your Dr is using you like a guinea pig. Just like my Dr is doing to me. I don't think they know 100% what there doing. This Resume is fairly new. I think they try things that they think will work , then they dont. And were the ones that have to pay. Do u per alot at night? I pee about 6 times in a 12 he period.

When I had mine done (Rezum), the pain was excruciating. I got a Valium and a Vicodin prior to the procedure. I was screaming in pain, the Rezum (Boston Scientific) rep was there and he was giggling as I was gritting my teeth and blurting out expletives. Worse yet the urologist just kept zapping away like he was Dr Mengele. Now I can't pee without a catheter (thank God for the catheter or I would be suicidal). Great experience!

where did you have the procedure performed?
how large was your prostate?
how many injections did you have?
did they put you under for the produre?
did you have a large median lobe?

No. I sleep relatively well and generally only get up once at night. Sometimes I can go for days without urinary tract pain, causing me to think that it's over and I'm cured. Then, it comes back with a fury. I played racquetball very aggressively for over an hour this morning and would have played much longer if it weren't for the building discomfort/pain in my urinary tract.

The procedure was in the doctors office and I was wide awake (wished that I wasn't). I don't remember how large my prostate was and I was pretty sure that I only had 4 injections (again, I was awake and could feel them). My doctor told me that I had at least 6. I specifically remember that one of the injections seemed to backtrack through the urethra and I commented at that time, "Wow, that one seemed to go all of the way up." When I asked my doctor if that could have been the cause of my current problem, he told me that there were no abnormalities and that if anything had gone where it shouldn't, he would have known. Maybe a little CYA.

Thomas -
I went to a doctor who doesn't usually use twilighting, but I asked him if it was an option and he set it up. He doesn't usually do it because he said insurance doesn't usually pay for it. I was paying out of pocket and it cost me an extra $600, but considering how much pain some guys experience I figured it was worth it.
