REZUM--HAVE YOU HAD THIS DONE???????
Posted , 385 users are following.
I had a nice conversation today with the President of the "Urology Times". He was telling me that there is a "New Procedure" that has been approved called the "REZUM SYSTEM". The company that makes the system is called "NXThera, Inc". You can google them up and lots of stuff comes up. I called them for a referral and they gave me a Doctor in Minnepolis that has done it over 50 times now. I called his nurse and she said he would call me back and answer my questions on monday. As you guys probably know Doctors are not very good at returning calls but we'll see what happens. Iam not very good at explaining how the procedure works but basically they take the device and put it up the uretha and vaporize the prostate cells which kills them. It works with high pressure "steam" that at a certain degree will kill the prostate tissue. My question for you guys is there anybody out there that has had it done to them and how are you getting along and are there "side effects", etc etc?????

II am now 34 days post rezum with no improvement. I'm going to consider this procedure of failure. Do you guys recommend trying to get a urolift or go for the full turp? I am 54 years old with a 24 gram prostate which is actually normal size.

John,
Before you try any more surgery, what sort of tests (urodynamics, urinalysis, cystoscopy, TRUS, other) were done and what were the conclusions of those tests? Basically what did the tests say was broken? You don't have to post the exact conclusions of the tests here.

First of all John
Before you do anything you should wait until your at the 3 month mark. They do say it can take up to 3 months
Now did they check to see if it was your prostate was the problem not your bladder. It seams like you should not have a problem with that small of a prostate
If I would you I would have the Urolift done first before I would have anything cut out. That may just cause you more problem. They can damage the nerve bundle and there will go your sex life and ejaculation.
I had the Urolift done 3 1/2 years ago and still wide open and do side effects
Take care & Good Luck Ken

John,
Thanks for ALL of the info. As Ken said, wait the full 3 months. So the cystoscopy found nothing unusual about your bladder other than some mild thickening and a loss of elasticity of the bladder muscle walls which happens with BPH obsctruction.
If the trabeculation is really bad, that could impact the ability to pee even after surgery as the bladder does not have the muscle tone to push the pee out. A few of us on this forum have compromised bladders due to periods of AUR.
I will have to do a little Internet research to see if a Qmax of 8 to 9 is OK or not. So far, of all of the procedures that I have researched, the information on the urodynamics test has been the most difficult to find any good material on.
If you have any good links on urodynamics testing, I would love to see them, but you may need to PM me as in the past, this forum has blocked posts with links, or you can just post the citation to the articles.

Get more information on your bladder Before I would do anything major I would try the Urolift. It would take the presser of the bladder neck. Most of the time your good to go in 2 to 4 weeks
Good Luck Ken

Ken,
Same here. I have been trying to get to bed between 1 and 2 AM but I should aim for earlier, like before midnight. That way, I am up at about 7 or 8 AM for my next 6 hour self-cath so my volumes stay below 400 ml.
One of the 2 things that I don't like about this whole BPH-AUR situation is the overnight self cath. I need about 15 to 20 minutes to be coherent enough to self cath and after that, I am too awake to go back to sleep so I might as well make breakfast and watch the news. After I eat and I am digesting, I get sleepy again so I go back to bed. Once I get up for lunch, I am up for the day.
The other thing that I don't like is the blurry vision from the Flomax which never worked. I wonder who else on this forum has their sleep messed up by self-cathing (not that our sleep was good with BPH ).

It's bad that we can't sleep. I have a lot on my mind and I try not to think about things but I do what I can
The other day I went to bed at about 1 am Watching a movie and I started to look at the selves on the side of my bed. Ended up getting up and cleaned them and move everything around. Did that the other day with my other selves. I have about 500 DVD's I went through them and put them in alphabetical order and typed them up on a list on my computer.
Have you try anything else to relax the bladder and get off Flomax. They are some that will not mess you up as bad. When I feel I am not peeing enough have you ever tried taking a hot path or shower and see if you can pee before you lay down.
