Have any one taken Simvastatin 20 mg? Rheumy has prescribed along with othermedicines like methotrexate 20mg a week, azathioprine(alternative days) salazopyrin twice a day every day, folic tab 5mg everyday, along with calcium and D2.

Can any one tell me about Simvastatin please. Rheumy asked me to take everyday before bed.

    Hello Ann,

I was prescribed Simvistatin for Cholesterol and had to stop taking it after a few weeks as it made my legs ache 10 times worse than they do usually. It also happened to a couple of my friends also.  I now take Ezetimibe and have no side effects at all and my cholesterol have dropped from 7.9 to 5.7 x

      Good luck Ann.

My readings needed to come down as with my unstable angina, I am at risk of a stroke, but you read such terrible things about statins and like you, I have enough problems without adding to them.  To be fair, my GP is very good so after I flatly refused to try anything else for cholesterol, he put me on Ezetimibe as it's not as intense as the others. x

I was tested and found LDL-C  H 141. Maybe I will stop taking this medicine and try naturally confused

It does make you feel that way Ann.  I have a friend who has a level of 4.1 and his GP is insisting he goes on statins.  I wonder if they get paid for each patient they prescribe them to!

    HI  Ann

I have taken the same dose of Simvastatin as you are to take an have been on it many years for high chol history.   I tolerate very well.  I have not known it to be used for RA but perhaps the doc looked at your chol #s and decided to order it

I was diagnosed last March of RA and currently on humira but with side effects and also lower dose of  MTX.   I do take the simvastatin in the evening as it works

best when taken at that time.

Have you just been diagnosed?   Will wait to see if others comment on the chol drug .  I wish you the best,  let us know how you are doing.

Hi Gloria, I was recently diagnised with LDL-C High as 141. So the Dr gave me Simvastatin 20 mg. But I noticed more swelling and pain then before.

      Hi Ann,

That LDL-C # is considered borderline high so it is generally treated with a statin drug.  Don't know if the doctor advised you to try dietary changes to lower chol first and that was not successful.   I resisted statin drug for years but the chol #s became very high despite diet and exercise.  You could always try diet change or ask doc to  switch the drug to a different

one      Some of the RA drugs are known to elevate cholesterol

Sorry you have increase pain and swelling.  Possible it is not related to the chol drug but let your doctor know .     Good luck

    Hi Ann

I take the same dose as you to keep my cholesterol down although it has never been higher than 5.2 now it's about 4 although no one ever mentions it now.

I done notice if I suffer any adverse effects from it.

I take 25 mg MTX injections weekly I was diagnosed 14 years

ago I have short periods ( longest 9 months) of controlled pain

I have lost track of all I have had but here goes

    Humira decimated my immune system

Enebrel.orencia again constant UTI ending with nephritis

Sulphasalazine made me fidget and twitchy unable to sleep

I take 75 mg of amatriptaline as muscle relaxant at night

Tramodol ,paracetamol,NSAIDS 30 mg folic acid once weekly

    Calcium and vitamin D

At times oral morphine but I do not find it a very good pain killer

And on average steroid injection depomedrone every 12_16

    weeks.

Maybe the simvistatin is to keep your veins and arteries from

narrowing so the other Meds work better

I have been taking Sulphasalazine since a year but no help. I am planning to tell my doctor not to give me any more of Sulphasalazine. I will just ask him to give methotrexate and chloroquine.

Hi Ann, I take a statin and have high cholesterol, and I can only iiiimagine your cholesterol was raised or that you doc is using it as a preventative measure for cholesterol increase. I too have never heard ot being used for R A. I did take a biologic drug Toxilimab which artificially raised my cholesterol so needed it then. Hooe you get some answers!

Hi Ann, as far as I know, Simvastatin is a medication to help lower your cholesterol. I have taken all of the same medication which you have taken, although I am now on Benepali injections because of side effects with the above, but took them for 9months.I usually take the cholesterol tablet in the evening also. I was on it a long time before starting the meds for R.A. I don't think the Cholesterol effected any of the Meds. Hope this helps. 😊

Thank you Linda, I would like to stop all these medicines and stay only on chloroquine and methotrexate. It seems I have more pains then before. Also I have noticed I feel sleepy with this medicine.

Hi Ann, if you are having so many problems and pain, maybe you need to get some medical advice. I tried Methotrexate tabs, but they upset my stomach a lot. I then went on to the injections. They helped a little. I tried Sulphazalazine and Hydroxachlorine as well as the Methotrexate. All gave me a bad stomach. I realised my brain was in a fog for about 3 days. The fatigue was awful and wanted to sleep all of the time. Plus feeling sick for 2 days. I persevered for 6 months and realised that the side effects out weighed the benefits. After talking to the rheumatology Sister, I decided I wanted to stop . This is when the Rheaumatologist decided to try the Benepali. I have been using it for 4 months and my Arthritis has improved. My feet and ankles aren't as swollen as they were. I can walk a bit further. It isn't perfect, but easier. I think you have to try all of the other drugs before the biological ones. I hope you get some advice and relief. Pain isn't fun.
