I was not going to start BLOG for my right eye, but i am!

Had left eye set for -1.50 intermediate distance on 8/15. Right was set for distance 9/27. Distance is great! I now have monovision. My very close is not good, but i expected that. i got some readers for close but it us making my head " spin " when used for closer work, my computer range is fair, but i cant visually handle the transition between intermediate and close readers. any suggestion? OR IS it too soon ? I am back to work on my computer

Glad you are happy with the monovision! What strength readers are you using? I am assuming they are over the counter. I wonder if prescription readers would be better so both eyes are the same.

in addition prescription readers are just better quality overall and comfort wise.

Yes. like Deb is mentioning, maybe your focal points are just a little but to far apart when you need to see close up, although your brain might still adapt, it is still early.

But a pair of glasses with different power each side, so the difference gets smaller might be what you need. Meaning, If you have +2.0 on eye set to far and +1.0 on near eye, the eyes become only 0.5 apart (now 1.5 apart). Maybe it is even possible to mix two pairs of cheap readers yourself, some of them are easy to take apart.

Your eyes can change slightly up to 6 month after surgery, so you might want to hold off with special made glasses.

      What about....

...how long after surgery can more than slight change take place? I am talking more than 10+cm change, not slight ?

WH - from all i was told and have read settling takes 6 weeks. Other visuals like halos and glare do take place over 6 mos and more as the lens is basically shrink wrapped to surrounding tissue. But as far as prescription changed you can ho get prescription glasses in 6 weeks. Astigmatism can get better or worse with time (any time over the years) which might necessitate a change in prescription.

How's your wife doing now? Hopefully the new prescription drops are better.

Well, I have not gone that much into those details with the glasses since I have premium lenses, but at the clinic they said it would be best to wait 6 month before you spend money on expensive glasses.

I think lens normally settles within the time of healing, which is normally under two month. But as we know, 6 month is also often the limit for a relative low risk iol explant, so I guess even after 6 month it is still not that well settled. What changes is how deep the lens settles in the eye, and this will affect the vision slightly, because the distance to the retina change.

Change in pressure can also change the power, I know that from a friend with glaucoma, sometimes his eye pressure changes during the day and then he needs to change his glasses with it.

A change of 0.25 equals about 6,5 cm up close, theoretically.

I think the reason the clinic say 6 month is mostly because of brain adaption, and because special made glasses are very expensive, and I guess they have seen people that have needed to change them again within the first 6 month, since they are saying it.

In part it may be how bad you want the glasses. I got glasses after 4 weeks but then my vision changed .25 after that. Of course it's all water under the bridge now since I'm exchanging my lenses. This time my optometrist said to wait 3 months.

Your -1.50 eye, at what cm distance does it have the sharpest point?

With the -1.50 eye do you get a camera lens zooming type of effect? As if the eye is searching for focus point and then finds the focus?

"As if the eye is searching for focus point and then finds the focus?" - that happens to me with the symfony for distance. but i think for me it is because of PCO.

    Hi Mutti3

It may take a bit of time for your brain to adjust to that set up. Did you distance eye hit the plano target? 1.50 diopters between eyes if answer is yes is monovision. Typically 1.00 is ideal as not everyone (unless they had that setup with contact lenses prior to cataracts or at least tried that out before cataracts made that impossible.

All to early to say as surgery was recent. It could turn very well should your brain adjust to it.

I know with settling this could change by .25 either way but once 6 weeks have passed prescription glasses would be far better than over the counter ones. Better yet you may want a contact lenses instead.

What you are experiencing is normal. When I first started progressive glasses - my doctor suggested it to get used to them early even though for most reading I was fine without - but those progressive glasses made my head spin! Before a year passed needed cataract surgery. Likely why monovision (mini or full) wasn't for me. But lots of people find it fine and works and I am sure in time you will too.

Good luck - sounds like surgery was a success!

yes plano was distance goal. The monovision was going extremely well, until, back to computer work today. I had monovision contact 20 years ago. i was doing great until i started working this morning. it was too much eye strain on my new right eye. Told my boss, signed off early from work. resting my eye, using the patch as well.

      Thank you for everyones input!

I took a week off work after each surgery. I do a lot of computer work too.

If you had monovision with contacts before everything should work well for you. Give it some time.

lucky you! This morning i woke up feeling like i got a something in my eye! I Know it is from the eye strain!

It could very well be from surgery. I felt like I had sand or grit in my eye (attributed to dry eye). If you haven't purchased yet buy some artificial tears - helps with that feeling. My personal preference is Systane preservative free drops.

If your employee allows sick time take a week off - even as your brain is adapting to new vision it is good to change up your focus from distance to near/ intermediate. Not beneficial to keep focus for long periods of time on one distance (my opinion though). Even at work now 2 years later have to take my eyes off that computer screen and look out the window to look at trees or something in the distance.
