I am 3 weeks post op and doing good. First week was hard and I did have some down days. People on here were great with advice and encouragement. I went to first physio today with 2 crutches and came away with one sick. My wound I still healing well.
Follow hosp advice to the letter. Adhere to the restrictions to avoid the risk of dislocation. Sleeping on you back is the worst but have naps during the day and listen to your body.
Be optimistic and positive and you will come through this pain free and with a better quality of life.
You will be fine. There are some negatives on this site but probably when people are having a bad day. We are all here to advise and encourage as everyone recovers at a different pace.
I hope this helps.
Sandra.

I'm17 months post LTHR anterior approach, I'm fine just occasional bursitis in the hip. You'll be fine, most of us are. Recovery give it about 3 months then you'll be saying how happy you are that you had it done. I'll be 55 next week! Good Luck.

I am 56 yrs old now but at 55 I had bilateral THR and am thankful for this.
I am walking albeit with crutches but that is not because of my hips but I also need my knees replaced the surgeon decided to start at the top and work his way down. Before my operation I was unable to walkaround the shops, even doing my grocercies ..
I had my op by spinal injection with sedation and it was nice to be awake and not feel ill due to anaethetic.
You will go through different stages but this site is wonderful to help you through the difficult times. And soon enough you will be writing positve messages to other
hippies.
Keep in contact Elaine

I'm 58, had a right hip total replacement in July. My experience was v positive. Had a spinal injection with sedative, walking with a frame later that day, learnt to go up and down stairs on crutches on day 1, out on day 2. Was never in pain, accepted everything they gave me...... Continued to recover well at home. Went all over the place on my crutches. People v good at offering seats on buses and tube. Visited work for a few hours a day from week 6, back to work from week 11, on my bike. I teach 4 and 5 year olds.
I think the forum is good because you can cheer each other up. We've all had loads of rubbish nights for example, and it's good to know others are feeling the same.
Wishing you all the best.

I had my left hip replaced (posterior technique) when I was (2013) 53. I went back to work in 7 weeks (should have been 12). I was back playing various sports 3-4 months later.
I had my other hip replaced (same technique), on July 25th. I will be back to work on Oct 25th and intend to continue my sports the same day.
Quality sleep was the worst part of my hip replacements. I took minimal pain medications for 3-4 days post surgery. As of other have said, DO your post operation exercises.
If you can, try to have your right leg/hip as strong as possible, that will help you post surgery.
Good Luck
