Rotator cuff tear

Posted , 5 users are following.

Hi everyone, today is day 16 after surgery for a torn rotator cuff and im still feeling a lot of discomfort in the shoulder where the arthroscopy was done. To the others of you who had the same op as me....give me your experiences please. It's just a constant dull ache in my shoulder.....seems to feel worse late arvo and evening of course. I have worn a bra yesterday and today and it seems worse these two days.....did anyone else notice that. Still taking Targin and Endone at night to kill the pain so I can sleep. Any feedback would be good. I've come a LONG way since the op and next few days but I was hoping by now the duscomfort would be getting less and it's not. 😘❌❌❌

    Hi Kerri,

I think my op may have been simpler than yours, just straight frozen op, but I did feel pain at the op site, especially at night but not as bad as yours seems to be.Β  Maybe yours needs to knit together more, hence the sling and six week recovery.Β  I found that when I started to move it around, though painful, it kind of eased the pain.Β  It is frustrating isnt it, it really is two steps forward, one step back, but you have come a long way.Β  On the bra thing, defo hurt my shoulders at first so I wore an old one really loose on the straps so it didnt put any pressure on.

If the pain is unbearable, I would have a chat with the doctor or his secretary and just raise your concerns?

Hope you get some relief soon, take careΒ  xxxx

Thanks Cheryl,....guess I'm just looking for confirmation that anyone with this same op is still feeling like I do. I had my post op app with surgeon on Thursday and he said to expect discomfort for up to 3 months, it's just feeling a little more uncomfortable than it did on Thursday when I saw him. YEP I'm in the sling for 6 weeks because the torn tendon has to knit back onto the bone. It just aches and aches....that deep bone kinda ache. My bra certainly wasn't tight, but maybe it just drags on the shoulder a bit, I had just noticed that I had worn a bra yesterday and today and I had a rough night last and had to take an extra Endone and tonight seems to be shaping up the same 😊. Thanks for your help and advice....really do appreciate it  😘❌❌❌

Sorry to break it to you Kerri, but Β although 16 days in pain seems a long time, regarding healing it's not really. Keep up with your medication , space it put throughout the day and night, ditch the bra and continue with ice and heat bags. It's a long battle but will improve. The more you begin to move, the more it will ache, which is what needs to happen, but is frustrating. Afternoon and evenings are often worse because you have walked around all morning/ moved around and the weight of your arm pulls on the shoulder.

keep at it and don't lose heart. It's recovery every day. My physio on still takes me through the paces and it aches afterwards but I accept that it's Β because it's moved more. I'm 5mths post arthroscopic surgery and 6 wks post mua. Still aching, but still healing. Xxxxx

Thanks Ali.....guess I just want to know what I'm feeling is normal and by the sound of it.....it's absolutely normal. I do find the more I'm up and doing things or getting taken out the more it aches. It almost kinda burns too. Your right it is recovery every day and I have come a long way since day one two and three......I guess it's just such a slooooooow recovery time. Thanks AlI appreciate your advice 😘❌❌❌

Hey Kerri. Chin up hun, it will get better - just seems like forever. Had my accident on 2nd Nov last year and my op on 9th of Jan only started wearing a bra again 3 days ago. Tried about 3 weeks ago but was still to uncomfortable but have managed the last 3 days. Still have to fasten it in front but at least the world is a safer place now lol. Just you keep following orders and you`ll suddenly find its all much better. Hugs. xxx

Thanks Maude.....I'm just sick of this constant aching. I sit in a recliner all day napping and still feel exhausted. A friend said today it's your body putting all its energy into repairing your shoulder....if that were true I wouldn't mind. I'm always tired and I'm not doing anything. I think the bra definately pulls down on my shoulder, it dosn't feel uncomfortable when I'm wearing it, but when I take it off definately more uncomfortable.

god I'm doing a lot of whinging....over feeling like an invalid 😘❌❌❌

Whinge away hun, whinge away. We`re all good listeners on hear and whingers ourselves to boot. I slept solidly for 3 days after my op and it was 3 weeks before I could muster a short walk with my dogs (and I mean short). When I had to do a days work because my girl called in sick I was exhausted and that was only 3 weeks ago. Rest, rest and more rest, we heal better when we sleep and are not fighting it. xxx

Hi lovely....yep 3 weeks on Friday, and thank goodness only 3 more weeks in the sling. My pain is pretty good, I take no pain killers during the day and just one Targin and one Endone at bedtime so I get a good night sleep with no pain. I am very very careful how I move and the most pain I get is an ache. Have started very light exercises called finger crawls and that's it for another 3 weeks. Β I've learnt to do everything one handed and the only thing I have trouble with is drying my back after a shower.....lol.

is your op next Minday?? Oh here is hoping they get it right and you are like me on the road to pain free.Β

Sending you gentle hugs, love and kisses across the seas πŸ˜˜πŸ’—βŒβŒβŒ

I can't believe how many people suffer from this condition and how people have to fight to get treatment............we are deffo one of the lucky ones!

Yep manipulation booked for 13.00hrs monday 20th smile I can't wait!!! My pain, like yours has now improved, and I am sleeping much better- its just my movements now - or lack of!! So plenty of physio on the cards smileΒ

What was your op for Jim. Was it a torn rotator cuff?

its 3 weeks tomorrow since the op and I am just soooooo exhausted 😩

    • Posted

yeah it was a torn cuff , the surgeon told me that i had to do a lot of exercise with the shoulder or it would just freeze again , so i did just that for about 6 weeks and now its 99% better , it takes time , im sure you will be ok eventually

I have to wear a sling for 6 weeks....no shoulder movement. I have 4 anchors and wires holding the tendon on the bone waiting for it to re knit. But if I use my shoulder or load up the tendon I could undo everything and have to have the op again. I'm only allowed to do finger creep exercise, which is very passive till I see the surgeon again on 7th May.

But it's a WHOLE lot less painful than that first week after the op and my op was three weeks ago today. It does take time....the hospital staff said the shoulder is one of the worst surgeries you can have 😩

i didnt have to keep my arm in a sling for more than two days , i think maybe you had a different operation to me , but there must be a reason that you have to keep it up , maybe its part of the healing process

Yep it's definately part of the healing process....so in being a GOOD little patient πŸ˜ƒ
