Rubber Band Ligation!

I just underwent my first rubber band ligation for one of three internal hemorrhoids this morning. I've seen some horror stories on this site, and I want to offer my experience as it's been quite well. The procedure went smoothly, my Dr. applied lidocaine and jelly and put the band on. I felt it and it was slightly painful for a second, but after that I was fine. I did have some burning for about an hour or so after the procedure but I believe it was due to the lidocaine. Either that or it's the hemorrhoid and the Tylenol I took just took the pain away. Anyways, I am about 2 and a half hours after the procedure now and I feel fine. I am lying down for the rest of the day and eating a lot of fiber and drinking lots of water. I honestly was terrified this morning because I've read so many bad things about this procedure but all in all my experience is a 9/10 so far. I had the CRH-OREGAN disposable hemorrhoid banding procedure. I highly recommend this for anyone that has it available to them. I have not had a bowel movement yet but I honestly don't feel it's going to be an issue because I don't feel any pain right now. I will keep updating this thread as I go.

Just make sure to keep up on your fiber so that you won't have to strain as much. Also stool softeners can be helpful. And lots of water! And in regards to Monkeyb, I had a lot of complications leading up to me getting this procedure. It started with blood in my bowel movements that was extremely scary to me which I'm sure most on here can relate. I had a colonoscopy done and thankfully found out it was just 3 internal hemorrhoids. I was afraid to get the banding at first and they did offer it after my colonoscopy, but I declined. I honestly wish I didn't. They ended up getting worse, to where I could not stand up for long periods of time without them hurting a lot or sit down. The final nail in the coffin was one day at work (I work retail so I'm on my feet 8 hrs a day) I felt like I was sweating more than usual down there. I ran to the bathroom and pulled down my pants and saw a bunch of blood. This was caused from the pressure of me standing too long. At that point I had had enough. If it becomes any kind of issue for you at all, just get it banded and taken care of. it's better to take care of it now before it becomes a real problem.

Thanks for your story and insight. I appreciate it. At the very least, I should get a proper diagnosis. I had a fissure a few years ago and the doctor actually pointed out that I had a small hemorrhoid too. I assumed I did prior to this but it wasn't really much of an issue for me. But since a year ago when it thrombosed, I've had more days of annoying discomfort than not, especially the last two months. Again, I feel like I can't complain too much given that there is never really any pain or blood, but any kind of discomfort down there is distracting and frustrating.

Hey CarissaD, I'm just curious how everything is going. It's been 11 days since my first banding and I believe it has fallen off. I did not bleed at all, which is confusing. When you went back for your second banding, did they confirm that the first one was successful?

I actually just went for a 3rd banding today. I posted a separate question because I'm not sure what's going in there right now. The first band he couldn't feel anymore at my 2nd appt. This appt he said there was still a little swelling in the 2nd band area but he banded a different area and said come back if still leaking in 2 weeks. So I'm at this point hoping and praying the 2nd banded area just needs more time to heal and obviously hoping the leaking stops.

Does anyone have any more information of the experience after.

I mean I've read up to the ten days after but how are people now. Did it work. Was there more pain?

11 days ago I had 3 grade 2 internal hemerroids rubber banded and one large mucosal prolapse double banded all in one procedure with no anaesthetic. Slight pain that evening, relieved by just one dose of paracetamol. No bleeding.

11 days on I'm wondering if any of them have worked. They are still prolapsing and the discomfort is the same as before. All the advice seems to say that the bands cause them to drop off within 10 days.

I'm still hoping this works because the alternative will be a stapled hemorroidectomy which is not a procedure I relish!

I've been wondering if there's anyone for whom the banding worked, but it all just took longer than normal?

Hi Emha, I am in a similar condition like you. It is my 10th day and may grade 3 hemorrhoids has not fallen. I wonder how your situation carried on. Did you require new treatments or the hemmorhoids fell lately?

Thank goodness for this forum. Such a life saver.

I hope you folks can help. I had x3 hems banded five days ago and I am still very sore, though the procedure itself wasn't painful. I needed a BM as soon as I got home, and then barely left three bedroom/bathroom until yesterday as I had diarrhoea and needed to go several times a day.

I am wondering if the banding hasn't worked as one of my hems has now prolapsed and doesn't look like it is about to die at all...and certainly doesn't feel it! When they prolapse I am in a lot of pain. A far cry from the 24-48hr indication on the leaflet...there is no way I could go back to work even now never mind the next day! I don't think I have a low pain threshold...I had both my kids without any pain relief.

My check up isn't scheduled for eight weeks. I know there is no point phoning and asking as even when I had fissure & prolapsed hems & polyps & proctalgia and passed out in A&E they just said "Oh you have piles, go home and take a paracetamol". I was so received when the specialist confirmed I wasn't going crazy and that I did in fact have a whole pot of things going on.

My questions are...do you think the bands could have come off somehow during my BM's? Has anyone else had hems prolapse after banding? I know most people seem to be fine after a day or so...has anyone else taken much longer to recover? Do I just need to be patient and sit it out (or rather lie it out....I can't sit!) I would be very grateful for any words from folk who also took a longer time to recover.

Hi, unfortunately i feel like i am in exactly the same situation as you

i had mine banded 7 days ago and now i have more external prolapsed ones than ever before

The largest one is very pink and sausage looking and showing no signs of shrinking or dying so i dont think it could be banded and i have no idea where it came from

My butt looks worse since the surgery and my follow up is not until May

Hi there I wanted to ask do you know if size of a hemorrhoids matters for banding?

My partner was told he had very small ones and that the specialist would probably not want to band them. He says they are uncomfortable and can be sometimes painful. He has brought up that he would be interested in banding but like I stated earlier that they might be too small.

I don't want to see my partner down, he was hoping he could get them banded.

After you had it banded, and it fell off, how long did the bleeding last... i had one done 2 weeks ago, and i still have small spots of bleeding whenever i have a BM....

I'm just wondering if this is normal.... ?

I had a rubber band liagation done for internal hemmrohoids and the doctor didn't use anything to numb me at all i could barley walk after i was screaming in so much pain. I was hyperventilating i asked why i couldn't have anything to numb me they just continued with the procedure he stopped because i was in soo much pain then he just kept saying hes sorry and that most people dont have pain im like well nothing goes in my butt the most thats been up there is a suppository if that smh at the end once they were done they put numbing lidocaine foam but i was in so much pain that i didnt even feel it the nurse came in and helped me get dressed but i literally couldn't walk i was in so much pain crying she was rushing me out of the hospital no discharge papers no instructions nothing i was in so much pain i almost passed out in the elevator the whole procedure just not sitting right with me everytime i close my eyes and feel the pain i invision the whole procedure it was beyond traumatic it was just so weird to me he (The doctor ) kept trying to say like oh i didnt want to numb you because i needed u to tell me where it hurt and he kept saying it wouldn't hurt i would be fine but for him to just do the entire procedure without any anything i felt everything and my body immediately froze up i was in shock i couldn't even move i was screaming in pain smh

I had two banded yesterday. No pain at all just felt like I needed to have a bowel movement all day yesterday. a little bit when I woke up today but now that feeling has passed. I did actually go yesterday and today but all went smoothly with no pain. I don't think any bands came off but since I no longer feel that pressure i wonder of they did. if that is the case. this all would have been for nothing, right? I actually was not flaring when I went in... maybe that is why not too much discomfort? Any thoughts? i did read that the best time to fix then is when they aren't flaring. Side note. Always Google a pic of your doctor ..I didn't and was unprepared for the young hot doctor who walked in to look at my roids.
