Rubber Band Ligation!

I just underwent my first rubber band ligation for one of three internal hemorrhoids this morning. I've seen some horror stories on this site, and I want to offer my experience as it's been quite well. The procedure went smoothly, my Dr. applied lidocaine and jelly and put the band on. I felt it and it was slightly painful for a second, but after that I was fine. I did have some burning for about an hour or so after the procedure but I believe it was due to the lidocaine. Either that or it's the hemorrhoid and the Tylenol I took just took the pain away. Anyways, I am about 2 and a half hours after the procedure now and I feel fine. I am lying down for the rest of the day and eating a lot of fiber and drinking lots of water. I honestly was terrified this morning because I've read so many bad things about this procedure but all in all my experience is a 9/10 so far. I had the CRH-OREGAN disposable hemorrhoid banding procedure. I highly recommend this for anyone that has it available to them. I have not had a bowel movement yet but I honestly don't feel it's going to be an issue because I don't feel any pain right now. I will keep updating this thread as I go.

Phew - I'm glad and also quite jealous that you are feeling as well as you are after the torturous ordeal I have endured this past week. Had I known the pain factor involved I would have opted OUT of the banding removal of the Internal rock band invading my inners during my 1st colonoscopy @ 43 yrs old - that I had earlier this week. I figured - hey, why not - I'll be asleep & wont feel anything - band em off .. and I'm also tired of the minor pain & the occasional, unsightly blood bath whilst doing my business. While I do consider my pain tolerance a high one - I can say this has been a tough one on me. I'm on about day 4. Had 3 internals banded and have been vocally expressing my pains from within my "butt hole" since the procedure. I woke from the surgery (still out of it) yelling- Owww .. My butt hole .. before my eyes were even open!! While others lay silent recovering .. listening to my indiscretionally & also inappropriate - and from what I'm told - loud - complaints about my 'butt hole".

I've been in agony - the only relief is the repetitive sitz baths overdosed with Sea Salts. Ive managed to make it to work 2 & 1/2 days this week - while explaining to my boss that of all the excuses I could ever use - I never though 'cuz I have a pain in my ass' would cause me to consume 3 PTO days within a wk time. I didnt use this much time for gallbladder removal or tubal surgeries combined - in a yrs time. Yeeesh!!

I'm scared to eat cuz - well - it does NOT feel good goin #2 after this. Fiber rich foods & Miralax are my new bffs. There is blood after bms - it freaks me out - and pressure down there & I'm using natural baby wipes to soothe & tap dry - what feels like shards of glass, coming out from within.

I've warned my friends, my fam, even my daughter - to NOT do this unless you have no other option avail.

I hate taking pain relievers for anything as well - and my alarm clock is now set to wake & take. Tylenol, Motrin, Aleve .. Yes to all!

Whilst I moan & groan and fear the next BM .. I can also laugh it off and at the same time pray for relief .. cuz this is no joke on ye butt hole pains. Not to mention .. no one wants to hear of it & it's slightly embarrassing at the same time. I just want to be normal again!!

.. This was written while sitting in a warm salt bath .. Damnnnn the relief!!

Good Luck 2 you & your recovery .. I feel better voicing my pains to others that may relate.

Hi I'm new in this post. I have a long story that I won't go into but I'm having roid issues. I've had them all my life but the last couple years have been bad. No bleeding just constant pressure, pain, itching and burning. I feel like my anal area is swollen and it seems to radiate to the top my crack area. I have been considering the CRH O'Regan procedure. Is this what you had? After your story I'm concerned with having it. But I can't deal with this uncomfortablness anymore. I hope you are feeling better. Interested to know what kind of procedure you had

I am considering this. I was at the Dr in Sept and he said mine weren't that bad and he basically talked me out of it. I am in a constant pain. Mostly very uncomfortable. Feel swollen, itching and burning. It's so annoying and having an impact on my life. I'm going to another Dr in a couple weeks that does it. I'll see what she says. But it sounds like you have had a good expirence with it. I cant imagine having a bad expirence and going back two more times. Can you give me any words of advice?

    Hi Everyone,

I just had mine today, apparently they were small but did them anyway, did 3.

Got couple of questions if you could please would be appreciated.

The nurse told me it will come off within 5 to 8 hours, did a bit search online people say between 2 to 10 days?

I went to use the toilet like 5 hours after didn't see anything dropped? And I still can feel the piles? So even after banding still can feel em?

Hope you are well and feeling better.

I also had O'Regan system done. Just had third hemorrhoid done this morning. I had them done one at a time about 10 days apart. I did not see the rubberbands in the toilet with the first two but wasn't looking that hard. This third hemorrhoid seemed to be the one causing most of my pain, so feeling most relief after this banding. Dr said I had level 2 internal hemorrhoids. He prescribes nitroglycerin ointment that has to be applied inside with finger cott 3 times per day, suppose to have great healing capabilities. I have had no blood but never did have any blood with my hemorrhoids just discomfort. The procedure takes a few minutes, it is pretty amazing. I would highly recommend it. He did a scope at my first appointment and today at my third, everything healing well. My next appointment is in 3 weeks to see how things are going. Have to use ointment 3 times per day until then and perhaps thereafter for another month. I have always ate quite well, drank lots of water everyday, active, never constipated but had some diarrhea before Christmas was straining alot because I was always in a hurry to go somewhere, not eating as well as normal and they just became worse and worse, I didn't even know what the issue was for the first month or so and then it really started bugging me because the diacomfort would not go away. Went to my doctor she prescribed medicated suppositories, they did

nothing. Then just by searching the word hemorrhoids online I came across this clinic that does the Oregan ligation, and thank god. I have added lots of fiber to my diet in something called Nutracleanse, which is ground flax and other things, my doctor recommended it, I add to my morning smoothie and then with yogurt and berries in the afternoon. Thing is I have always been regular other than the odd time having diarrhea from eating something too rich. But more fiber is overall very good for your health and this is 2 heaping tablespoons per day, not a big deal for me and I like the flavour of it, sort of oaty none flavour which works.

I have noticed a number of people have questions re how they are doing etc re healing, pain, blood. You really need to call and make an appointment with your doctor and ask him or her. The clinic I go to, it is quite easy to get an appointment, like within days or a week but I live in Vancouver Canada, so might be different than the US. They can quickly do a scope and check things out, don't torture yourself with what might be going on and guessing. Every single person has a unique situation. I am reading how people seem to be having bleeding for weeks, that is disturbing to me, as I have never had any blood before or after the O'regan banding but others may have had a different kind of banding done and much more advanced hemorrhoids. Please go and get a professional to check you out. Plus with O'regan system, the bands and hemorrhoids are suppose to fall off in 3-10 days but if it falls off within a day that is ok too supposedly. I was told by my Dr usually 5-7 days but not to obsess about it. I can't believe how some people had three hemorrhoids done at the same time, the oregan system does not do that,it is one at a time but again it might be a different procedure to band then I had.

    Hi everyone,

Im going to have the banding procedure with dr Amyn Haji in London in about 2 months.

I have three grade 3 hemorrhoids and the Dr suggested we band them in one session. Because my hemorrhoids prolapse im used to pushing them back in after BMs, my question is am I still meant to do that after banding or will I injure the hemorrhoid and risk having the band fall off?

    Thanks!

I found this thread as I was searching for answers. Hopefully I can find somebody with some similar symptoms following the banding. I got might be ending done on a grade 3 hemorrhoid. It was a very painful experience the first three days within the first three hours, the rubber band head slips and was now outside with a small piece of the hemorrhoid. Still there the next day, the rubber band had fallen off, and although I had pain those first three days it did get better. On day three I suddenly was overwhelmed with wet underwear, And a, horrible stench. I’ve banded cows before, so I thought maybe this could be normal on day five I had to start wearing a pad because the stench was overwhelming. I messaged my doctor. Whose nurse replied, you can come in for a check up. Once again, I I’ll maybe just to be normal because they didn’t seem to be alarmed. I did take a picture of it and there is a piece of the hemorrhoid that was banded. That is now almost white in color I would say, and to me I would assume it would be infected considering the smell but once again, there’s nothing in the packet that says that it’s not expected or not something that can happen. I feel like people around me can smell me. I feel a lot of regret because I feel like I should not have even had this, even though my hemorrhoids at some moments made me miserable. everything there feels more like it did before I had children and before hemorrhoids were a problem, but I am still leaking this fluid and I don’t know what it is.

Hi Sorakingdom95. I do hope you are on top of the world. I noticed that no-one seems to post anything here that gives info on how they are getting on in the years following their rubber band ligation. It would be good to know what the longer term post banding landscape is like.
