Rubber Band Ligation and Leakage

Posted , 9 users are following.

I've had 3 bandings done as of today. My doctor said if I'm still experiencing leakage in 2 weeks to go back for a possible 4th banding. My question is how long did you leak after banding? Should the area be healed in 2 weeks or should the process take a little longer?

If anyone recalls please let me know.

    hey

banding is terriable way to go, no offense!

but wait 2 weeks, I attempted this first before surgury. you leak for a bit as the bands are doing their job but cutting blood flow from the hemroids. its uncomfortable and bit gross but I wore depends cause of the leaking it wasn't very pleasant.

but with banding typically you have to get them done every 3 months and that's not an option I wanted so i went for the surgury

Hey Carissa. I wouldn't stress too much about it. One of the other comments said that each banding has to be done months apart from each other which is false. They are done in two to three week intervals. I imagine you've had so much leaking due to having them done one after the other. Once this last one is done and gone, I feel like once you heal you should not have any more problems. It shouldn't take much more than two weeks to heal but I would give it a month before you start to worry. I imagine the swelling is a good sign also, showing the band did it's job and now is healing. I wish you the best and if you have any other questions please reach out. I will do the same!

I have to disagree, everyone heals different. i had 2 grade 2 done at the same time, and because my dumb a$$ kept straining and not drinking enough water,i kept reopening the healing area, causing bleeding. And this was 3 weeks after bands fell off. BUT , i guess you could heal after 2 weeks, i just didn't 😫. But doing much better now

So good to hear you are doing better now. Yes I agree it is different with each person. I tell everyone on here to keep up with their water and fiber. I have cut all drinks out out of my diet but water and I've lost weight! I've been at the same weight the last 5 yrs so it's surprising. And will do Carissa! My next one is Monday the 29th.

How are you feeling, Sorakingdom? Do you feel like the banding is helping with the first hemorrhoid?

Heres what i dont understand, when i went to the colorectal specialist, he basically told me i had 2 internal. And banded both at the same time. Never said anything about coming back in for another site banding. Infact , online patient notes , stated i had hemorrhoids at the left lat, right pos,and right ant...but said he only banded the right side. Which didn't make sense because i was definitely told you have 2 . One on right and one on left. Im not complaining 😂. Just odd i guess. And ive had several conversations with the assistant also, but she never alluded to me that I would have to come back in. Granted i was foolishly straining and probably not drinking enough water in the beginning after the banding. And by trial and error , figuring out what made me regular (not straining). Its definitely been a road id rather never travel down again, although the experience wasn't as bad as i initially thought. I also realize you can only have so many banding's before you need to take the next step. fortunately for me, my visitors were small grade 2, so keeping everything in check is essentially the key to hopefully getting a few years before i may need another banding 😒

CarissaD216 - Yes I feel a difference definitely. Before, I would go to the bathroom and have considerable pain for about an hour or two after. That pain has now reduced, and after showering I felt down there and only felt two bulges which there were 3 before.

Jnf123 - I believe you had a different procedure done than CarissaD216 and I did. We both had the CRH O'Regan ligation procedure, which can only be done on one at a time in two to three week intervals. I was told the reason for this is that when done this way, the complication rate is only 1%. If they did multiple, it would jump first to 10% and then to 25%. Keep up on your water and fiber lots of fruits and veggies and whole grains like cereal and oatmeal. As long as you don't strain they should not come back.

    Hey Carissa!

I just wanted to follow up with you and see how things are for you right now. Are you still experiencing leaking? Any pain? My next and second one is tomorrow. I honestly can't wait until they are all done. Hope all is well!

Hey, I'm doing ok. Still a bit of leakage but it's slowing down. Also still feel some swelling after a bm but I'm not sure if it's healing swelling or hemorrhoid swelling. Not much pain, more like an irritated feeling from time to time..esp after a bm. Debating whether I should go back to doc in a couple weeks or allow it to heal. I'm only a few days past my 3rd band so I'm sure some of the symptoms are because of that one.

How bout you? Do you experience pain in the banded area?

Hope all goes well for you !

I'm almost glad you said that jnf. Please tell me basically how you feel after a bm now? Still a little swollen feeling? Any "wetness " feeling or odd irritation?

If not, when did it end?

      Thanks!

I would also describe it as a "puffy" feeling. Different from pre banding but still odd.
