S/O Vitamin D post - Supplements?

I posted in the 'low vitamin D' post below, but I'll repost it here:

I have tingling in my feet and my legs often feel 'off' when I wake up in the morning. It's hard to describe, but they feel weak/tired/wobbly. It typically lasts for a couple of hours and they feel fine the rest of the day, although the tingling/burning feet comes and goes throughout the day (they're typically fine in the evenings/overnight). I wonder if it has to do with my Vit D levels? I've never been that low, but I'm wondering if I still need more? My level was 25.9 in Feb 2017, so my doctor told me to start taking an OTC supplement (in addition to my daily multivitamin). I started taking 2,000 units daily and my level increased to 34.3 in Feb 2018. Looking at the reference range, 30 seems to be at the low end and 80 at the high end. I'm due for bloodwork again in early March, so I'll be interested to see where it is at that point. If it's still on the low end of the range, I will ask my doctor about bumping up my daily intake. Thank you for posting this, I am going to do some research on Vit D and menopause symptoms!

My additional question is: what supplements do you take and what helps with your symptoms? Other than a multi and the Vit D, I don't take anything. Are there things that you're supposed to avoid? Or things that should be taken together to help? I don't know much about supplements, but I'll certainly be asking my doc at my next appointment.

Good morning! I agree with Pam take calcium as well. When I started peri my vitamin d was low as well so I started taking an OTC vitamin d3. My gyno suggested calcium as well. I also take biotin for my hair skin and nails. Vitamin d is considered the sunshine vitamin. It helps with your moods. I have noticed a difference in how I feel since taking it for 2 years. I bought one called Vitamin Code its Raw. They said it is as close to getting it from food as possible. My calcium is the same. I hope this helps 😃 Have a great day and be good to yourself 😃

I was at the doctor the other day and she ran some blood work and told me to take some vitamin e fish pills I also take a multivitamin and vitamin D i go back in a month to see if this is working just started the vitamin D & E starting to feel better.

Still have the hot flashes though but i'm not as tired and run down only been on this for a week so far. you might look into taking some menopause supplements but as doctor first in case you have other med's that might counter act with what you are taking.

Hope this helps and you get to feeling better.

hi I thought the same so I had my Vit D checked, it's 74 but I still get tingling/vibrations in my feet. my B12 is ok as well. so I think it's related to hormones and all the anxiety it brought on for me.

I am taking 5,000 IUS a Day of Vitamin D.....I would definitely do a full blood count of all minerals and vitamins I think as we enter into perimenopause and menopause some of these minerals and vitamins are deleted from our body and it's very important that you keep a close eye on it I should probably be on 50000 I use one pill a week but all three of my doctors said no it's surprising knowing that my level is at 8.7 and they don't want to take quick measures to get my vitamin D up as quickly as possible so I'm not suffering and feeling all these symptoms with the tingling in the feet wobbly legs off balance dizziness cramps in the legs and the feet muscle spasms muscle twitches it's all got to do with a lack of vitamin D

i agree that does not sound right. 10 years ago my vitamin D was at 18 and i was quickly put on the 50,000 pill once a week as well. took for a while got levels rechecked and sopped taking it. but now my levels are low again. if you can, find a rheumatologist or the like and have her put you on it.
