S1 joint pain after total knee replacement in October 2019

About 8 weeks after my second knee replacement (1st was a breeze year before) started have pain in lower back on same side going into buttocks very intense and constant. in rehab they said it happens because of gait change and will probably get better over time after 12 weeks rehabs nothing changed, have continued on with the exercises for my knee and went to further physcio for 8 weeks ending in February 2020 . Pain still there, doctor sent me for MIR in beginning of March it showed no pinched nerve, some inflammation in S1 joint and moderate osteoporosis in this area and hip. Doctor says not far enough along for any surgical intervention, believes cortisone shot will not help advises not to take to many strong medication, but recommends maybe more physcio, chiropractor, but we are now dealing with the coronavirus. Would appreciate any suggestions as the daily pain is hard to deal with and none of above suggestions are open right now.

Mine happened at 5 weeks. Lower back, through the SI joint and glutes, and down the leg. Yes...it comes from the gait change. I went to my chiropractor who told me that my hips were grossly out of alignment. Took about a month of 2-3 x per week of chiro to set the hips so they'd stay in line. After that, zero problems.

This is a very common thing that happens post-TKR because it's a very unconscious thing. Our brain will shift our weight to avoid pain. In our case, away from the painful knee and onto other muscles. I absolutely refuse to use things like Gabapentin and Lyrica for the nerve pain. Insane side effects plus naproxen (or similar anti-inflammatories) should only be used for a maximum of 10 days straight. This problem has a known cause and is easily fixed.

Hello!! OMG!! I just can't believe it!!

I'm going through the same problem.

had TKR in November last year, in March my back. I was reading your story and I thought oh nooo, this is exactly what I'm going through. from private physical, hospital, chiropractic, physical therapy, orthopedic and spine and pain management center. And still suffering for the last six months. knee replacement and now my back.

spine and pain center told me that I need surgery. went back to the orthopedic and my problem is tendernaris. my therapist closed down the facility because the covid 19, but I found out that Pivot facility was open. they're really helping me .

please schedule an appointment and try some physical therapy there. I'm going to College park facility. I'm so sorry you're going through so much. don't waste your time with chiropractic.

    Best of luck!! blessings
