Hi Pauline, please do not worry. When I was diagnosed I was actually relieved because at last I had an answer to stop me thinking I was losing my mind. People on the outside cannot see what is happening to you on the inside, I was told I was having panic attacks and given advice on how to relax!

AF is quite safe to live with so long as you look after yourself and take advice as it comes as well as meds if prescribed. I took stock of my life and readjusted so many things, it has been a very much needed diagnosis.

    Best of luck x

    Hi Pauline,

Sorry to hear this,  but do not worry too much as that will lead to stress & thats is not good for AF. it all depends on how bad the AF is, if the episodes are not regular & dont go on for long periods at a time,& they settle down without medical intervention, then theres really nothing to get too up tight about.

Read all there is to read on here, but you really have to thoroughly discuss it with your AF consultant .

    good luck

    Graham

Yes-stress releases adrenaline and this increases the sensitivity of the myocardium (Heart muscle).  The more I looked at the cardiac monitor screen-the higher went my rate-'its 180-185-190...'' I screamed down the phone to my girlfriend..

Hi Graham, Thanks for your reply, I have to see my doctor this evening as she had little time yesterday when she told me. I am handling it very badly I know because it was a complete surprise to me, I had no idea anything was wrong, but of course now I feel every movement. I feel like my life has completely changed and I cant do anything about it. Thanks again, Pauline

Pauline-dont despair- have they tried Magnesium yet? We all need our particular levels of electrolytes-maybe yours was too high, or more likely -too low.

Try not to focus too much-difficult though it is, I know.

Has your doctor taken you off Ramipril which for me is where my PAF began.

No, I am on propanalol and have been for a long time, the doctor is keeping me on it she seemed pleased that I have a low pulse rate, usually around 60.

not sure if they do long term but yes-I've been given Magnesium via IV twice- It seemed to work eventually. I was an alcoholic at the time-my electrolytes were all over the place.

It is mentioned a lot on here but mostly by people buying it themselves.

I had my GP check my elecrolytes and they were OK.
