I hate flying! I flew so many times and still not use to it. I always get anxiety the day of flying. Feeling a bit anxious right now. Out of benadryl. Gonna get some b4 my flight. Calms me down a little.

I went to San Francisco in 1998 to visit my brother. I told my doc my fears he prescribed me diazepam (valium) In France they prescribe xanax (same family benzodiazapines)

you are actually safer in the air.At any time there are nearly 1 million people in the air.

    You'll be fine

Get on the plane, I don't know how old you are but a few drinks and striking up a conversation with your fellow passanger will help you relax.

When i'm relaxed on the flight i start thinking about the genius of modern science that 2 engines can keep 300-400 people in the air for hours. I love flying now.

I don't think I could ever love to fly! EVER! my last flight 2 weeks ago had turbulence the whole way. Hated it! I always look at other people to see the reactions and everyone is always calm or sleeping. It makes me feel better when I see the stewardess  walking around.

I know how you feel - I hate flying and instead of it getting better it's getting worse.

    I don't take medication though.

I'm due to be going to a friends wedding in May and I'm already thinking if excuses so I don't have to fly.

I just hate the thought of being trapped somewhere and knowing I can't get off until it's landed. Plus with my anxiety and asthma I don't know which of the two makes me tight chested and breathless ness.

That really sucks! You don't take medications at all for anxiety? I don't either. Well not prescription medication from the doctor. I don't want to. I took benadryl  for allergies even though I don't have allergies. A friend told me to take it to lower the adrenaline. I was told I had asthma also cause I'm always short of breath. I did the inhaler thingy and it didn't help so I went to an asthma specialist and they said I didn't have asthma.  Anxiety sucks! Sorry to hear that you don't wanna go to your friends wedding.

I have had anxiety since April (well it's probably been longer and only diagnosed then) and I don't take medication - mainly because I don't want to have to rely on medication to make me feel better and also because I was sorry of the side effects. I have a young son and I was worried id become drowsy etc

I too don't take my inhalers - partly because again I'm not sure if it is asthma and I don't want to inhale anything which could be dangerous.

There are times when I feel so down about it all - I just want to be 'normal'.

I am totally  the same. Don't wanna take meds cause of side affects and don't wanna rely on meds. I only did the inhaler twice after they told me I had asthma.

THAT'S HOW I AM BUT I TAKE THE MEDICATION FOR MY ANXIETY BUT MY DOCTOR ALSO GAVE ME ALL THESE OTHER MEDICATION TO SHE GAVE ME THE INHALER FOR MY BREATHING AND IBUPROFEN 800 FOR MY HEADACHES AND LIKE TO OTHER MEDICATION BUT I DON'T TAKE THEM EITHER BUT I DO TAKE THE ANXIETY MEDICINE

Does benedryl help your anxiety significantly? I'm only 20 and just recently developed constant anxiety, but really do not want to be on meds solely because I don't want to depend on them to make me feel "normal."

I also have an inhaler! I don't use it often though because like you, I don't think I have actual asthma, just shortness of breath due to the anxiety.

I've only taken benadryl when I'm flying. It does help me relax and calm my nerves. It also makes me a little sleepy.

Hi, I know how  your feeling, I have the same thing really cant cope with the idea of being traped somewhere.

Last time I was on the plane I took half of Xanax, and listened to meditation music most of the time.

it really helps bbeing distracted with something else.

Hope it goes ok for you.

Also TERRIFIED of flying.  I swear to god I don't know how I haven't had a heart attack on a plane so far. When sitting on runway waiting I have a full on panic attack, even thinking about it now makes my blood run cold.  Sat in airport waiting I have severe stomach issues, diarrhoea, vomiting etc.

The best flight I had so far was a short haul flight with my best friend who is a frequent flyer.  I was asking her all sorts of questions about the noises etc, she was trying not to laugh at me but she calmly answered my questions.  I do the same as you, look around at steweardesses etc as they're calm.  I can't even look at a  plane in the sky wihtout getting the shivers.

Yeah I get the stomach issues and feel like throwing up but never have. And when the plane takes off I'm freaked out. That's the worse for me when it's taking off.
