Sea Buckthorn Capsules

Hi, I have just been speaking to a lady in an health food store on the phone to see if she had got any Sea Buckthorn Capsules in. I told her I wanted them to help with my Vaginal Atrophy. She said they are a very popular product and a lot of women buy them for the same reason. She thought Fenugreek was no where near as popular and she had never heard of Peuraria Mirifica. Anyway I have since looked for the capsules on Amazon and EBay. But it struck me, I wouldn't know what strength to get or how many to take. Ideally I should have asked the lady in the shop about this but I didn't. Anyone any ideas? Thanks. Shirley

Ok. The sea buckthorn berry oil contains omega 6, 7 and 9. The seeds contain 3, 6 and 9. Seabuckwonders is 80% berry and 20% seed oil. It is the omega 7 we want - this is very rare and only found in sea buckthorn.

Pharma nord is also berries and seeds - anyone have any info on the %?

I can't find any that are just made from berries. I will continue my search....

    Have looked at diff makes:

Seabuckwonders 280mg omega 7 per 1000mg dose of oil

    Quest 300mg omega 7 per 1000mg

Lamberts (berries only) 289mg per 1000mg - very expensive!

      Pharma nord 240mg omega 7 per 1000mg

If I've done my calculations correctly.

Actually they are all pretty expensive. lamberts is around £30 for 60 capsules but they contain 1000mg oil. Seabuckwonders are the same price for 120 but they contain 500mg. I guess if we want to benefit from this natural aid, we are going to have to pay for it!

So my conclusion is that Lamberts, made only from the berries, has the highest level of Omega 7 and the cheapest online supplier I can find is Bodykind.

Thanks for doing that Suki. I will look for Lambert's at Bodykind. :-)

FYI, if you haven't seen it already, here is the study that was done showing the benefits of sea buckthorn oil for vaginal atrophy:

      https://patient.info/forums/discuss/sea-buckthorn-oil-for-vaginal-atrophy-484896

You can see that the women in the study took a blend of berry and seed oil, which is what most of the suppliments contain. 3g a day. So perhaps it is not vital to source only the berry extract. As they did not test omega 7 in isolation but the sea buckthorn containing the full set of omegas, perhaps all these omegas in combination is the key. I know that taking omega 3, 6 and 9 doesn't make a diffrence, so certainly 7 is an important factor.

Hi Suki Girl. You said you found no adverse affects. Have they had any good effects like increased moisture.

Well, the condition of my vagina has not deteriorated further, in fact it has probably got better because frequency and duration of penitrative intercourse has increased (yea!) and the soreness after has lessened. It used to be that after intercourse I needed to have a restful day the next day - having a walk was out of the question, but not so now. Also, I had a tendency to get small tears on the fourchette skin with intercourse (the area of skin just posterior to the vaginal opening that needs to stretch during intercourse) which had to heal before we could try again. I used to be very very moist - I had to wear panti pads every day - so when I suddenly became dry it was quite a difference for me. Now I find I do have a little vaginal fluid again and my hubby says that I am producing some during sex, although not to the levels I used to. Having said all that, I cannot confidently attribute it to sea buckthorn alone because I do so many other things - I take pueraria mirifica for the phytosterols and lots of other vits, minerals and suppliments; I apply and insert coconut oil and vitamin e pessaries. I also make sure hubby and I have intercourse at least 2 times a week, plus sexual play in between, to keep up the levels of my own natural lubes and increase blood flow to the area so that the condition of the cells is maintained.

I am also on a no dairy (milk protein intolerance), no added sugar (only naturally occurring in fruit), no yeast diet due to my tendency for thrush. I don't know if diet has anything to do with it but I know that in one of the discussions on this site several women said that their discomfort got worse when they indulged over Christmas.

I have a sensitive stomach. Wonder if they cause any negative problems with that.

I do too (milk intolerance) and I've had no problems. They are just natural plant oils, after all.
