Seat height post THR

Just wondering whether I'll always need a higher seat on my easy chairs. I'm day 8 postoperative and doing well, but thinking about any possible future needs. I'm only 58 and really don't want to be limited in my choice of furniture. I'm not really tall, but do have long legs and my seat at the moment  needs to be 19 inches high. What do you think?

Chair should be High,Firm and preferably with armrests and a high back. you can used Pillows to bring up the height of chair. I have hight fitted underneat the legs of my arm chair but i still use extra cushions.

You'll also need a raised toilet seat.

You can ask your Therapies Team for more information they should give you all informations.

    Good Luck!

I'll ask when I go for my 6 week check, but I thought if I do need to get different chair permanently, then I'd better start looking! I've got all the necessary equipment for now, including chair raisers, but vain as I am , it does spoil my lounge layout!

That said, I can't believe how well I'm doing and how mobile and straight I am!

If your chair is suitable for the present why not wait and see how you go before worrying about a new chair?

I have a friend, about your age who had a THR 2 years ago and can do anything without any pain. I also had a THR 15 months ago and still need a higher chair and toilet seat as I am still in a great deal of pain but I am much older.  I guess there are lots of possibilities.

It's important to keep up the exercises but don't try anything too strenuous.

I'm exercising well and getting lots of support from my husband, he's brilliant. My sister had a THR 15 weeks ago hence me getting equipment easily, but she is shorter than me and has much shorter legs so this wasn't an issue for her. Other than this query, she too has been supportive and informative. Thanks for your help!

Hi, I am 12 weeks post-surgery LHR and I still need a raised seat. I have decided to purchase aQueen Anne style chair which I find more comfortable than my sofa raised up with cushions!

    Good luck

I know my sister needed the full 12 weeks for raised toilet seats etc, but I hope that is the max time I'll need them. Thanks for your reply, I have been looking at Queen Anne style chairs, along with stress less etc.

Ive not had mine done yet but as far as I know after 12 weeks as long as your surgeon says it's okay, seats toilets etc can go back to normal but you should really ask when you have your final check up.  They have loaned me a higher granny chair and they told me if everything is ok they will pick it up after 12 weeks. I certainly don't expect to have to spend money on new furniture.

The chair they loaned me was awfuleek Dark brown plastic type thing. but it was what I needed to keep the 90 degree angle. I only had 2 settees.

Recently I bought myself a chair....high back, wooden arms {covered} and it is more comfortable for me than the settee. I did have a fight with myself before buying itbiggrin but decided that it was better to be comfortable than vain. Its certainly a lot better than the hospital one.....couldnt wait to get rid of thatsmile

Like your reply! The fight is where I am, if I need a new chair I'll need to start looking now, as I'm so fussy!

I didn't get a chair loan, I got the raisers for a chair that was suitable, but it was just a bit low. Thanks for your response.

      Hi

We are all different.....My first THR....as soon as the 6 weeks was up I rang and they came and picked up the toilet seats.

2nd one....well thats a bit a story......4 weeks post op and I was doing one of their exercises....there was a loud crack....when it was X Rayed they said I had fractured my greater trochanter bone?? At the top is all I know. Nothing they could do about it, it would heal itself but would take a long time??????? Its now  and a half months post fracture and 5 and a half months post op and I'm still on crutcheseek  I rang them about the raised toilet seats about 14 weeks  post op....they are swtill in my garage awaiting collection.

      Love

So sorry your 2nd one hasn't been as straight forward. At least it was your second, if it had been your first you'd have been put off good and proper!

      Take care.

Thanks for this, your reply is reassuring. I have a gorgeous suite, years old, that has feather cushions, but otherwise supportive and I don't want to change it yet if I can avoid it.

I know 70 years olds who have had both hips done and ski like mad and sit however they want...So you should be fine in a few weeks. If the pain persists nag like hell - my 6 week assessment was botched and many problems missed so 7 months on I am still sitting on a granny cushion - so if it does not feel right at your 6 week appointment nag like mad. Surgeons dont want to admit fault but even mine is starting to find the physios, GP and my osteopath are all prepared to tell him its wrong....

I've been extremely blessed in the surgeon I have, I did a bit of research first and chose him even though I'm on NHS. I'm sorry that you have had problems and hope that you get resolution sometime soon. Unfortunately even the best surgeons can have poor outcomes for numerous reasons, some of which just 'happen' without any obvious cause. I know I'm very early days so I'll just take it slowly, but surely.
