Seeing ghost images (double vision) in both eyes

I have been seeing ghost images in both eyes since around the end of august 2017. The best way to describe it is seeing faint extra images coming from the top and bottom of whatever i am looking at, which is something lighter than its surroundings( like a street light at night or subtitles in movie). Imagine the letter “A” with a white font, on a screen on a black background, I would see faint copies of this letter above and below it. This happens with anything that is bright in darker background ( a black letter A in a white background would be fine). These ghost images can move further vertically away from the original, depending on how hard i squint. When i turn my head sideways, it occurs horizontally instead.

I have started using glasses since around october and I got them thinking it would make it go away, and it does while wearing them (not entirely sometimes), but i do not recall ever in my life having this problem before I got them. I am nearsighted and have been my whole life, but these double images are new and conisitent. Even with glasses, these ghost images are come out if i squint.

I have been to several optometrists and they were completely useless. These optometrists confirmed that it isnt cataracts and astigmatism. I read that it MIGHT be some type of diplopia, but not entirely sure. I just want to know if anyone who wears glasses or not, has been experiencing the same thing and what they do to treat or diagnose it. Please help, this is ruining my quality of life. Glasses help me see and I should have got them a while ago. But this problem seems unrelated, does everyone who wears glasses have the same issue?

I am also having this same problem of overlapping letters that just developed overnight and it stunned me because i fairly had a good eye sight . Its been 5 days since then and i have not yet felt any relieve . I went to the doctor also but she gave cylindrical lenses and no improvement after using that too . I dont know what it is but i asked my friends to check this and they checked it and some if them also found it the same stuff on a dark background . I am still worried although that it might just progress.

I know the OP predates Covid but I have experienced monocular ghosting since October of 2021. At first, I thought I just needed to update my prescription, which was from 2017, but stable. I had Covid in August 2021 and although I was not hospitalized, I did not fully recover until mid-late September. I started having to notice the ghosting around this time frame and scheduled an eye exam, received an updated prescription. 3 pairs of glasses later, each with a new prescription and 10+ visits to more than 5 different subspecialists, I only now have started to scratch the surface of the problem. One doc noticed asymmetry of my optic nerves so... Visual field test was today and in a few weeks, MRIof the head, Cspine and Tspine. I'll report back. Has anyone else noticed if the timing of their ghosting coincided with a Covid infection?

Hello everyone 😉 I'm from Lithuania, and I'll tell you my story. Since I'm translating with a translator, I'm sorry for the mistakes 😉

I call this problem multiple imaging. Only my symptoms have been going on for 12 years.

I want to reassure you that it won't be so bad. And there are much worse diseases than this disorder. The images will simply increase, and it will seem to you that your vision is deteriorating. But don't make the mistake of wearing the glasses they prescribe just because you can't see well when they check your eyes. This is not bad vision, but the resulting images prevent you from seeing clearly. At the same time, they will correct some vision, but it will be a temporary thing. If you haven't noticed, when you get closer to the object, those images seem to snap back into place. So this is how the glasses work, by zooming in a little, some images return back. Of course, you are probably still just starting when there is one or 2-3 images. I had a lot of research on athletes. So it's not diabetes, not a tumor, not keratoconus, not glaucoma, not multiple sclerosis, not astigmatism. And as one doctor told me, it's not an eye problem. Because my own eyes are perfectly healthy. Now we are waiting for an examination of the work of the eye muscles, it is assumed that the eye may not be working properly, so other images are created, but I think this matter will also be rejected. 😉

And for vision, know that you get used to it, just think about it as little as possible, and in no way try to look or anything else, because until the diagnosis is made, in order not to make it worse, for example, when you really need glasses, not only because you have visions, but because you will damage your eyes.

And please be more optimistic 😃 We are walking with a disease that, as far as I understand, has not yet been identified in the world, so let's have hope that everything will be fine. And remember that there are more serious diseases than ours, and we have to be happy about it 😉
