Self Help

Whether we like it or not we have all been appointed CEO of our fibro and as it is such an individual condition  can I ask what the Gang could not do without by way of self help.  For me as a person who finds stress triggers bad episodes of pain I find relaxation CDs so helpful along with magnesium baths. Also diet seems to be relevant for me.  Over to you folks.

Hiya Maggers, ...great question..I always wanted to be a CEO. ..lol!

My sauna, hot showers and lots of hot water bottles-really helps with flair up pain....but I really couldn't do without my hubby especially as  he is such a carer, he's the one who gets the sauna ready and fills up the hot water bottles..have a lovely day...be blessed..:-) xxx

PS...I changed my diet a few years ago to...PALEO...excellent benifits too...

      Your husband sounds amazing

Mine is like a wet sock - hopeless!!

Watches me do everything even down to the grass cutting

Only sympathy I get (not that I want it) but when I struggle round the house or have to lay down my 10 year old will lay and run cream in my legs then my golden retriever gets on the bed and gives the best cuddles lol x

My husband too just doesn't seem to understand either.  It's not the sympathy I want but justv a bit of support.  MEN !!!!

Forgot...wonder if men with Fibro are supported properly by their wives...would be very interesting to hear! ..:-) xxxx

Well I can't say mine has Fibro....but I do agree with you, and know all about the "compartment Syndrome" (ie not the Actual Medical Condition of Compartment Syndrome...there is such a thing, related to broken bones Ha ha).....but yes, there is this prob that they don't see/do  things as we do, hey?   As for  the "help", well I think most women are made/born with a natural/caring instinct....even when the male specimen gets his back up, and says"there's nothing wrong....I'll be alright"...then panics when "something is wrong....says "what do you think?"  "what should I do?"  .....One of my daughters gave me the book (many years ago) "Men are from Mars, Women are From Venus"...it made me laugh, as I had only to read the first few pages, and realized the author had "hit it on the head"....we are soooo different....rolleyes   Bron

    Hi Maggers

    Wow a CEO !!!

For myself it's CBT as it helps being mindfulness and also having a sensible diet. wink x

Hi Maggers;  I Like this one.....I know I can't go without my Amitriptyline. and Gabapentin.....and my bed (with it's regular use)....I am also very reliant on my Physio....but am seriously considering your Magnesium Baths....can you tell me where you buy large quantities of Soluble Magnesium (bath salts or what?)....I do enjoy my times soaking, and the thought of having relaxing music at same time might just be what I need for those decreased stress levels.....rolleyes   ......until next reply.....Bron

You can get Epsom Salts almost anywhere - chemist, amazon etc. I am lucky we sell it at work so get staff discount - got to have some perks!!

Not only music when soaking but lovely lavender scented candles - careful not to fall asleep though.

Thanks Maggers;  goes to show how ignorant I can be....of course...I do use Epsom Salts...just didn't put the two together as being the same..now I am laughing (at myself)cheesygrinredface.......Bron

No problem - put it down to "fog"   It can be somewhat useful at times to be able to blame "fog" for various things.  Got to find some perks in having fibro as our constant companion.

My hot water bottle is a must! Being able to craft/sew keeps me going, it isn't always possible due to pain in hands, elbows and wrists, so those days I plan and design!

Love the positive attitude.  I used to love knitting but the osteoarthritis put paid to that.  Somehow the thought of using a machine to do what the hands used to did not inspire me.  What do you most enjoy sewing?

I make brooches, key rings and appliqués for tote bags, mainly from Welsh cloth and tweed. When my fingers are too painful for fine hand sewing - I make pictures from fabric to celebrate events e.g weddings, births etc and individualised baby books! I have a website, but I am not sure if  I can post it here!

I do try and remain positive - but some days............need I say more?

Have you thought of broomstick knitting? That might be easier for you.

That's what I do Maggers...sooo love cooking..hands are pretty bad though ..so I must have bought everything and anything that moves to take the place of my fingers..where there's a will..hey?  I'm at the stage now, when I buy another kitchen machine, hubby says: you need to throw one out if your buying a new one...otherwise your will end up a hoarder ....lol..such a minimalist..:-( xxx

My hot water bottle is my best friend.  I went to a wedding yesterday and took a small one with me. Have soon to think about buying some new ones as they have been used so much I think it wont be long before they spring a leak also due to the fact I fill them with boiling water which is not recommended.  I also do tapestry and knitting on good days.

Hi Tracey - have you ever thought about using the pet heat pads. Stick them in the microwave and they can stay hot for 12 hours. Only problem is they are solid so not good for wrapping around but great for hugging.

Thanks for the thought - broomstick may well be the answer.

thanks Jeanne - I found a way but it wasn't as simple as the grey envelope! Full of fog today 😊
