Self Help

Whether we like it or not we have all been appointed CEO of our fibro and as it is such an individual condition  can I ask what the Gang could not do without by way of self help.  For me as a person who finds stress triggers bad episodes of pain I find relaxation CDs so helpful along with magnesium baths. Also diet seems to be relevant for me.  Over to you folks.

Adult colouring books. I love to lose myself in the designs and focus on the colours. They really take my mind off things.

Sounds good - will have to investigate this one.

Cuddling or stroking my lovely elderly cat Alfie.  He has arthritis in one shoulder and one hip so I have to be gentle with him, which suits us both as I have arthritis in both thumb joints.  Ten minutes of 'furry purry creature' therapy and I have a smile on my face again. smile

I have my five dogs, cuddle in which keeps me warm, they are very big dogs. Wilfred like to sleep on my head if he gets the chance, the others just like a cuddle and it is relaxing stroking them. Also,

In the good old days I used to take my dogs, who were registered PAT dogs into local schools and children's centres and clubs and give talks and let the children handle the dogs and watch them do various tricks.

Dogs are wonderful companions. Love mine to bits.

I can't imagine being without my gang they are real comedians, our kennel name is clown in Italian, Pagliaccio (hope that's the right spelling we don't use it). We couldn't do PAT dogs because they want annual vaccinations and we don't agree with them. Used to take snakes and lizards into schools for the kids to handle though.

When we did PAT years ago they didn't ask for vaccinations. Things must have been tightened up since we did it.  I stick to obedience and showing now as I haven't the energy for agility and gundog work.

I show our Italian Spinone, even that is hard work, at Birmingham National hubby thought I was going to have a heart attack after running round the ring lol. Are you doing Border Union?

No to Border Union but will be at Southern Counties - fibro permitting of course.  Did Bath - wish I hadn't - wasn't our day.  To put the icing on the cake got stuck in 2.5 hr traffic jam on way home. Wouldn't have minded if we had a decent result!

You do the southern shows, we do the northern ones we also do Midlands ones like LKA. We've qualified the baby for Crufts, will you be be there, it would be nice to put a name to your face, is it the other way round lol

Maybe at Crufts - never make the decision until entries close - I am always last minute.  Have two with life qualification just wanting that elusive 3rd in post grad for the others!   May have a new puppy by then so will have to see.

Seems craft hobbies,  hot water bottles and our animals are tops for us fibro folk. We certainly seem to be  a creative lot.   Nice to know we are  keeping the grey matter ticking over.  I too have animals and if it were not for them making me exercise I would be tempted to sit more than I do.

My two small dogs have been a great comfort. I often get sleepless nights so I grab a duvet and sit downstairs in the sitting room. They normally sleep in the passage downstairs so they get all excited when they know they get to share the duvet with me. I do find nights the hardest so having them beside me nudging my hand for a stroke stops me feeling so lonely.

So my dogs would be top of list of things I could not do without, next would be hotwater bottles, painkillers, daughter who helps a lot around the home, partner who fills myhotwater bottles when I'm having a bad day and havent got the energy to get out of bed, my mum who has been to nearly all my hospital appointments with me.

You are so right - my dogs look forward to my sleepless nights. I too hit the sofa with a duvet. The wee small hours would be such a lonely time without their companionship
