Selincro for 3 weeks but still drinking

Posted , 8 users are following.

Hi. I've been taking selincro for 3 weeks now and although it seems to stop me from getting wasted, I still crave alcohol and drink most nights of the week. Can anybody share a success story or similar experience. I'm beginning to doubt if this drug is going to work for me ????

    Hi Katie!

I have been taking it for 6 weeks and am experiencing the same effect. I drink less, but I still want to have a drink, I can go a day or two without, but small things trigger a desire to drink. Yesterday evening, the sun was shining, so I felt the need to sit in my garden and drink pinot grigio! Mad! but I suppose after a lifetime of drinking, old habits are hard to break...

Hi Michael , it's really nice to hear from you. Your situation sounds very similar to mine. Sun definitely means wine in the garden in my world. I'm really hoping that one day it'll just mean time in the garden. I can take one or maybe 2 days off from drinking and when I do drink I'm not getting wasted but crave a drink daily. As soon as my working day is done, I'm looking for my glass of wine (or 2,3,4 glasses). I truly hope that selincro will change this. I'm wondering how much willpower will I actually need to finally become a normal "occasional " drinker.

Please keep in touch and share your journey. It really does help.

Thanks again and good luck 😄😄

      Hi Katie,

Lol at least we are making some progress!! Well done on not getting wasted smile I used to see the sun as a great excuse to have a couple of rums as well as the Wine!! I haven't had a spirit based drink since I started on selincro. It will take time, but eventually the desire to drink will disappear or so they say..

Even though the sun is shining today too, I have so far resisted the temptation to open a bottle, it helps that I didn't buy any on the way home from work. It's difficult to give up something that you enjoy doing.

There are a lot of people like ourselves on here and it's always good to share smile

Hi Katie. Yes, the sun was shining yesterday and I had exactly

the same thoughts. I had a bad day and craved a drink. I wish I

could come home and just have a couple of drinks without

getting really drunk. It is so difficult. My family and friends are

constantly watching me. Do you ever feel there is no escape

from it? I have a party on Saturday to go to, but I know that I am not welcome due to my drinking and past behaviour x

Hi. I am not taking anything. My willpower is slowly going. I wish I could just go without. It occupies my thoughts each day

Thanks for posting guys and please continue to update. I'm only on night two but was already feeling disappointed I feel no change in craving. I know it can take months. It's just difficult when some people report not even finishing a glass of wine after day one.

Yes summer sun is a trigger for me plus walking past bars with everyone drinking outside. Or if it's been an exciting and productive work day. Or if it's been a frustrating and difficult work day. Or a boring day. Or...you get the drift.

With you all the way - any change in scenery, emotion , weather - it's a trigger to drink. Don't give up on tablets. We'll all do it together.

According to the research, it takes 2-3 months for 'pharmacological extinction' (the unlearning of your addiction) to occur. It happens quicker for some people but it's still early days yet. Just keep taking a pill before each occasion that you drink.

There are MANY success stories. Keep going! smile

Will do. I have no intention of stopping taking selincro. Just impatient to see results. Crazy - I've drank for 9 years solid and I'm expecting a cure in just a few weeks. Stupid I know but desperate also.

I understand the impatience, Katie smile You are seeing some effects already with your reduction in consumption smile

Hi Paul. I went back to work on Monday. The longest day ever!

I know I am better at work and keeping busy but that does not

      Stop my cravings.

That is the problem with abstinence. Cravings carry on. That is why The Sinclair Method (using Nalmefene or Naltrexone) makes everything so much easier in the longer term.

Thanks. Do I need to speak to my gp? I have been seeking help

for months but I don't think they realise how serious my problem is. I have talked to professionals and told to keep a diary but it is of no use. Thanks for all your support.
