Selincro for 3 weeks but still drinking

Hi. I've been taking selincro for 3 weeks now and although it seems to stop me from getting wasted, I still crave alcohol and drink most nights of the week. Can anybody share a success story or similar experience. I'm beginning to doubt if this drug is going to work for me ????

Hi to all. I've been on Naltrexone for a while now, maybe 2 months and am finding my cravings have diminished considerately. So if you happen to be on this (or Selincro), it is making a difference for me so far.

Where there is a will - there is a way - sometimes just patience until it  does the job. In the meantime, hang in there. I have a good felling about this program biggrin

Now had four nights of taking Selincro. First two nights no change in drinking. Horrible side effects. Have to say after day four the side effects have reduced considerably and I am sleeping better.

On night three something interesting happened. I think I have been waiting for some sort of epiphany where I suddenly don't feel like a drink! Obviously that's not quite how it's going to work but on my night third I was plonked on the sofa watching TV with bottle of wine on the go. My partner came home and joined me (with the TV bit!) and suddenly said - "I've been with you for nearly an hour and you haven't got up to refill your glass". Of course once he said this I did fill my glass but it was an interesting observation that this reduced drinking thing with Selincro may happen in a very subtle way. I did finish that bottle of wine but it's normally two bottles and it was great to see it was now bed time and I'd only got through one.

Last night however I was back to two with no apparent Selincro effect.

I can see now though that when I start having no Selincro/alcohol days and instead do some exercise and cook some great food, how my mind may start to slowly switch over.

I can imagine maybe being so preoccupied chatting at a party that I haven't realised I haven't had much of my drink. Instead of now where I constantly check to make sure I've got one!

I'm going to try to just keep taking the Selincro with alcohol and analyse a bit less.

That 'not realising your glass is empty until somebody else points it out' is a common symptom of not having an alcohol problem. Just hope it gets 'worse' smile

Let's hope so! I'm realising that's what most of my friends do all the time. Whereas I'm always on high alert as to when the next glass fill is coming up. It would be great for alcohol to become just unimportant.

Hi Katie, I have just started on Selincro too and I am finding that although I am still drinking too much (unit wise) I am not getting drunk and not drinking anywhere near as fast.  I think it will work and slowly I will get to the point where 2 or 3 is enough.  I also found last night that although I had 15 units in total I could remember everything which was a really pleasant change!  Keep going and good luck.

    Hi Katie!

Well done on reducing your consumption!! 😁 I am heading into my eight week and am finding the same. I am still drinking way too much, but I am doing it over a longer period. Sipping rather than slugging!! 😁 the trick is to keep busy. I go for long walks in the evenings that I don't intend to drink, once I get past 9pm, I have told myself that it's too late to start and I go to bed and read.

It doesn't always work though, yesterday I had a few beers watching the match, then switched to wine, and before I knew it the bottle was empty sad. I worry at times like that, that selincro isn't working, but I am sticking with it. This coming week I am going to try to get to Friday without a drink, and if I do fall off the wagon, not to have any more than the recommended number of units.
