Hi hope I am new to this site but I'm gathering you take this drug, if I assume correctly how long have you been taking? I'm shocked to discover only 53 people in Uk have been successful in being prescribed it. Is that right?

53 in Scotland, Linda. It has been available there for over a year on the NHS. It has been available for a much shorter period in England. I don't know how many have successfuly been prescribed it so far in England.

      Hi Linda,

I am a support mom with my son who has been thru so much since a teen addicted ti AL. Read his story if u have the time it's a story many have faced. Others on this forum have been lucky to not endure the life of AL madness that many have suffered .  This disease has more impact on the world than any other !

This drug is made by Lundbeck Pharmacuiducal Co. In Denmark. Much info is online and u can also ask UR dr or UR pharmacy for more information regarding this drug.

      Kind Regards

      Hi Linda,

I'm in the US. This drug is something u need to ask for where u live and study the advantagages as well as the clinical trials . KNOW what u r taking understand it's usefulness and then u will have a better outcome. It has been approved for 2 years in the US. it's a different type of drug. I hope you can try this drug. Check with UR pharmacist on information for UR area.he will have contacts to the Pharm that makes this drug.

      Keep us posted.

      wishing u the best!

Hi Im collecting the tablets after work today and would like to start straight away but am fearful what the side Will be in front of my partner and daughter who have no knowledge of any of this that I do. I am already in the dog house because I drank too much yesterday and took myself to bed early. I don't know what to tell them?

Linda, if you are in the dog house for drinking too much, honesty may be the best policy as it shows that you are trying to do something about the problem.

If you don't want to tell them, though, there is no way they would guess 'oh, she must be on Nalmefene' so, if you get side effects, just say you feel rough.

I think telling them is the best way, though.

Hi Paul I know what you say is right but I don't want people to judge me and look down on me. I will wait until daughter has returned to London on 1st. She criticises me constantly anyway so don't want to give her more fuel. She loves me but blames me for not keeping my marriage with her Dad together.

It really depends how they see things Linda. I think that you are showing your intention to deal with your issue by getting Nalmefene. I wouldn't expect anyone to be critical of that. If she is always critical, no matter what you do, maybe you have to just do what YOU feel you should do and she can lump it! smile

I am currently reading more about this Hope with a view to using it in a very different way to the traditional forms of alcohol treatment. I won't be able to say much on here about what I am doing but I hope that I will be able to advise people better with regard to this drug. There has been some discussion on here previously but it seems that people in England (and Scotland, where it has been approved for NHS use for over a year now) are having difficulty getting hold of it.

      HELLO Paul,

I know that you will help with this new drug and give another alternative to alcohol addiction control.

Even docs in the states r unfamiliar with this drug. Once it catches on there will be more available. I still consider advertising this drug is the way to get the word out.

Contact UR pharmacy & ask for the phamplets on the drug from the pharmacudical company. The many clinical tests are very encouraging, and with little side effects.

More presure on pharmacies and docs is what may help the countries u mentioned obtain this drug.

I hope many on this forum research this drug for alcohol addiction. The more they know the more they can beat this addiction.  This drug could be a good start for many with addiction problems.

Again alcohol addiction is not treated as a disease in society or the medicinal community. As many other new drugs with far less complicated diseases are freely advertised with far worse side effects.

      Nuff said.....

Keep it going...so many have faith in you!  UR treatments are designed for each individual. There is no one system to quit ....or one size fits all system to stop drinking..there are many ways and many drugs designed for addiction that r useful. Some are not addicting...that's why there should be more info and a easier way to obtain this new drug with more education.

      Hope,

I was supposed to be on the radio in a discussion with the Dr who led the clinical trials. That debate was, unfortunately, cut short because of an escalation in the situation with the cafe siege in Sydney and the radio station had to go live to news updates about those but I have the contact details for this Dr and will be contacting him in the New Year for a chat about various issues which have become apparent since the drug was made available on the National Health Service in England and Scotland. After more than a year since Nalmefene was approved for use in Scotland, just 53 people have been successful in getting the drug prescribed for them.

Hi Paul, Tim here in Canada...I am finding it difficult to even find anyone here who knows about Nalmefene. There was a CBC News article posted recently which is why I found out about it but there was no mention where or how to obtain it, not even my councellor knows.

Do you have any info for my situation? (in Canada)

I am afraid I don't. Even in the UK, where it was recently approved for use, finding a doctor willing to prescribe it is difficult. That is complicated by the fact that it costs about £3 per pill so many local funding bodies refuse to put it on the list of drugs that doctors can prescribe. That means that people are having to pay for private prescriptions.

How do I send you a .pdf file that I found most interesting about  Nalmefene and it's plus's and safety/addiction? I can give you my email address (privately) if you wish.

The more I read about Nalmefene, the more I want to try it !!!

Sign me up for trials in Canada...
