Sensitive teeth

I have noticed in the last week that my teeth have become sensitive, I have always brushed with sensodyn toothpaste. I have noticed it because the weather is cold that my teeth really hurt. I know it is not my teeth, as I had seen the dentist and the hygienist at the beging of December.
I am on 11mg of Prednisolone, does anyone else have this problem, is it the Pred that is causing this problem. Thank you.
I would like to wish all my PMR sufferers a very happy new year 🎉🍾

Off Pred for good, the side affects are not good, fantastic drug but wish one was warned of the side affects. If it wasn’t for this forum I don’t know what I would do.

Sensitive teeth can become a issue especially in cold weather. Sometimes I think I need ear muffs for my teeth. Keep brushing with the toothpaste. Also ask you dentist about application of tooth varnish to coat and protect teeth, somewhat like ear muffs? 😁
Do you have dry mouth?sometimes this can exacerbate sensitive teeth. Just a thought!
🎉🎉

I started having teeth-sensitive-to-cold about a month ago. It started less than two weeks after starting bisphosphonates (Alendronic Acid), so thought that was the reason. But I've found no reference to it anywhere else, so now I'm not sure.

Prednisone has made my teeth so incredibly sensitive. I didn't realize how bad it was until I went to the dentist for my 6 month check-up and cleaning. I couldn't tolerate her spraying water on my teeth so she sprayed it on my tongue and I just swished. My favorite food of all is ice cream and I cannot stand eat it it hurts so bad. One suggestion if you're not already doing this use warm water to rinse your mouth when you're brushing your teeth. That will help with the pain from the cold water hitting your teeth.

margaret, you have a Pred side effect that I do not have. My mouth and tongue have been sensitive, but not my teeth. Pred the devil's tic tacs, but they help us lead an almost normal life. Think positive and try smiling. 😊

I had/have the same problem. I mentioned it to my dentist and she gave me a prescription for toothpaste. Only a small amount on toothbrush and not to be used by children. It's very effective. May be worth asking. I am not with NHS and pay privately for my dental treatment. I don't think that should make any difference to prescription but I'm not sure if an NHS patient would have to pay for the prescription. So much has changed with our wonderful NHS.

A lot of people complain about sensitive teeth. Some blame the pred - but mine was definitely due to the PMR as it happened long before I started pred. I tried various sensitive teeth toothpastes and decided the best for me was Sendsodyne Pronamel - not all helped. I couldn't drink cold water and eating ice-cream was interesting! I brushed my teeth with lukewarm water. But over time it improved a lot - and not because I came off pred, no problems now and I'm still on 7mg pred.

Yes, me too. It began about a year into PMR and then it progressed to very fragile back molars which have since crumbled! To be fair, they were mostly fillings to start with. I've found Arm & Hammer Sensitive Pro with Repair liquid calcium is effective although I haven't tested it with ice cream .. good luck, and a Happy, Healthier New Year to all.

To those people who have posted that they're using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth I have a question for you.
Because of Sjogren's syndrome I have a very dry mouth which causes me a very sensitive tongue. So sensitive that I cannot handle a strong mint flavor. Therefore I use a special toothpaste that I found in a health food store. So my question is, of the toothpaste that you all use for sensitivity do any of them have a mild mint flavor?

Some Sensodyne toothpastes have no mint flavour. You've have to look at the range on the website - they seem to distinguish between "mint taste" and "fresh taste" - and some say nothing! I goggled sensodyne toothpaste flavours. I used to dislike the original flavour but when I started using it I got to like it. Dentists should be able to offer a trial tube - so you don't have to buy a whole tube to try it. Or write to the company.

very hot, I now cannot drink hot tea or coffee etc, no enjoyment there anymore. What with that and sensitive teeth.
i also found out Just before Christmas my husband was diagnosed with dementia, only just 60. He said he would look after my physical health if I if I look after his mental health. Probably not a bad exchange. Here’s to 2018 whatever it holds

Oh margaret89358 I am so sorry that you have so much to deal with. I don't have too many problems with drinking hot things but any strong flavors and my tongue burns. Most usually it's the tip of my tongue that is the worst but it's also the rest of the tongue. I have found out that when my tongue hurts really bad like it has millions of small cuts on it is when I have a fungal infection in my mouth. And my fungal infections which are probably thrush do not have the typical white splotches. But I've recently learned that is because I have a dry mouth and it is common for the white splotches not to show up if you have a dry mouth. You might see if your dentist or doctor would treat you for a fungal infection to see if that would help your tongue problem. After all it's not a big deal. Just a week of swishing your mouth and swallowing the medicine. And of course you know since we're on Prednisone we are much more likely to get a fungal infection.

Hello Margaret. I too had very sensitive teeth for several months about a year ago when I was on 10mgs. dentist recommended C-lg--e sensitive Pro-Reli-- (think i'm not allowed to give full name!) that plus more careful flossing did the trick. am now down to 3mgs with long forgotten toothache.
Sorry for you trials. Goodluck
