Sertraline & flu

Posted , 5 users are following.

I've been on sertraline for 4 months now finally reached 200mg for the past 12 days still waiting for sertraline to work, I haven't felt my normal self since June last year! Anyways I have had flu the past 4 days and it seems to make everything a million times worse, I am already stuck in my own little world, stuck in my own thoughts all day but it seems to be far worse, I just feel 'yuk!'. Anybody else like this with the flu?

Hi Pamela that’s excatly how I feel. I feel like I’ve lost myself to this horrible anxiety. I woz on paroxatine for 17yrrs tho ? And changed to sertraline which I wished I never did. I don’t know wether that’s why the sertraline is taking so long to kick in or it’s still quite early , I just hope they start working for me soon cus I get so anxious waiting.thinking they’re never going to work at all 🌹

I was on citalopram for 7 years and they pooped out on me that's why I went to sertraline, maybe it's because our brains have been so used to the other medication that it's taking a while to kick in! I feel so lost! I have lost the old me and just want myself to come back, I'm a shell just on robotic mode, it's not nice is it, I went to see a psychiatrist in December for a evaluation and she's just got back to my doctor saying I should be on venlafaxine, I told my doctor I will give sertraline 6 more weeks but to be honest I'm giving up hope with the sertraline but dreading tapering off them to start a new drug and to go through all this mental sh*t again.

Hi Pamela. I took the Aussie flu on the day I was supposed to change over to sertraline after tapering down to 10mg escitalopram. I had been so looking forward to making progress as had been stuck inside my head since October. But the GP advised to hold off on cross over until i was on the mend from the flu. The flu is horrible and did exacerbate my anxiety as I felt I was stuck for another while. I started my sertraline 13 days ago. 50mg. Still not seeing much improvement. I hope you feel better soon. Lots of fluids, paracetamol and rest. Hugs, Gabrielle x

    Hi ladies.

i did take about 10 weeks before I felt the benefits of sertraline and the horrible side effects to go completely.

Im on the smallest dose because I am sensitive to most medication, but iv been on it for nearly a year, and it’s given me my life back again,

i will see my gp for a check next month but don’t think I’m ready to come off it yet.

But it will take longer for it to settle in your system if you keep needing to up your dose.

it does work for most people, but does take a few weeks, hope things settle down for you too.

Thank you so much for your reply Julie. It gives me the motivation to keep going, to battle through each very difficult day at the minute. The GP has said it will take time and to use the 2mg diazepam as and when necessary but I hate taking it.

      Hi Debra

yes I did feel detached I think most of us starting on this medication does, but it will go.

im on 25mg which has taken the edge off my health Anxiety,

i still have a bit of anxiety but I dont think now that I’m going to drop down dead like my mum did at 60 years old and I was there too with my two sons who were only 10 and 13, so it scared me and them. Also losing my husband to cancer. When I was 48 and he was only 54. Felt like I was going mad. That was 10 years ago.

Yes when I started the side effects was horrendous, at one stage I thought they weren’t going to work for me, but one day I was singing to a song on the radio and then I knew I had started to come out of the black hole.

I asked to be put on them, I felt that my mind and body needed a rest from all the anxiety that had caught up with me over the years.

You will get there luv, hope they start working for you soon so you can enjoy life again 😘

    I took about 10 weeks.

I suffer from acid reflux and being on these has made it a bit worse that is one of the side effects which probably won’t go away with me.

keep us posted on how you are doing x

Julie, i take 20mg esomeprazole to help with the acid reflux and if it still doesn't settle I take a spoonful of gaviscon advance. My insides would feel like they're on fire if I didn't use the esomeprazole. It's definitely as a result of the anxiety...it's the first thing at becomes affected when I'm anxious. Hope this helps xx

I was on lansoprozol for 5 years and it stopped working for me, I do have gaviscon every night before I go to bed and try not to eat or drink the things that trigger it,

but today’s been a bad day for reflux, but my partner is going away with work and my job is getting stressful so it’s making me anxious hence the reflux.

      Thank you for the advice.

Are you taking sertraline for health Anxiety if you don’t mind me asking xx

Initially it was panic disorder but it seems to have evolved and therapist says I now have generalised anxiety disorder at a high level. I would get anxious about my health but not in the sense of finding a lump and assuming its cancerous etc. I'd be more anxious when having to take medication in case it harms me in some way.
