Just wondered if anyone has been prescribed Sertraline for anxiety or stress? If you have been - has it helped?

Yes - absolutely! Was prescribed 3 months ago for severe stress due to combination of factors that I tried to cope with for far too long. Ended up feeling completely 'wired' and exhausted, with negative thoughts stopping me from sleeping. Taking Sertraline 50mg took away the rush of thoughts and simply gave me space to think for myself. I had a period of anxiety to cope with at about 3 weeks into the course, but this has passed and I now feel much more like myself. I had retreated into myself and didn't want to really see anyone or go anywhere, and interest in my hobbies went out of the window. I'm now back at work, and if I've learned anything it's that I'm not superwoman, and there's only so much anyone can cope with on their own. I would persevere with the Sertraline. Again, it hasn't changed my personality at all, just given me the ability to think things through - and the sleep is wonderful after so long without! Hope you also feel better soon.

    Hi there

Yes, I was prescribed it for high anxiety issues (so bad my hair was falling out!) It got worse at first so I was prescribed diazipam for the first 2 weeks then after that thinsg have just got better and better. It hasn't changed my htought patterns, but dulls the anxiety so its not overwhelming and gives you a chance to think clearly about the issues that were stressing you in the first place. Please do stick with it - you'll get there.

    All the best smile

Do you still take the Diazepam with your Sertraline Caroline100000? If so, how much do you take?

I do have them, but don't take regularly, my GP prescribe me a bottle of 28 - they are 50mg (I think..? the white ones) to take as and when necessary, but never more than 3 a day.

I try to avoid as I know they are habit forming for when I'm having a really anxious moment, and thats usually at about 3am I find.

But I definitley don't feel I need them as much as I did when I first started taking the sertraline.

I am also seeing a therapist to talk about my emotional issues, I thought it better to come at from all angles....

    All the best

    hello,

on my third day under sertraline I had a major panic attack (i was prescribed for depression, not panic), i never had one before, I woke up at midnight with the conviction I was going to die, that i was having a stroke, i started praying because i wanted to be ready for my death, it lasted one hour, then, i went to sleep knowing i wouldnt awake next morning.

The next day everything was normal, i spoke to my doctor and said it was just a vivid nightmare, i dont know if this med was responsible, maybe the adjustment, i dont know, but after 4 months taking the med, it hasnt occured again, and now i feel calmed, extremely calmed, even sleepy, the doc says it is normal, my body is getting used to be calmed so it reacts with sleepiness.

Even though, you should talk to your doctor and be patient, sertraline takes full effect on the third week (usually).

    good luck

Definitely! I was kinda iffy about taking them. I'd never had to take a pill daily. I was scared it'd affect my brain in that it'd become dependent. Then again, I'd gone to the doctor for reason. My anxiety was through the roof. I needed help. I'd have these moments when I'd freak out over the smallest thing for no good reason. Maybe I needed anger management, too. I'd obsess over things that made me feel bad. I'm just thankful I decided to open up to my doctor and found out that there was medicine and that it didn't have to be super expensive. I was thrilled that things could get better. I started taking them. It's been well over a year now. I'm a lot better. I still have moments, but not like before. I truly feel blessed that I don't feel like I did back then. I hope this lengthy story helps smile

i took sertraline (50mg) for just over two weeks but i felt like they were causing a lot of suicidal thoughts/ amplifying the amount i had, i had at the time just stopped smoking canabis which was a habit that was formed for around a year beforehand and just before quitting was quite a heavy use, i was in a mix of minds as to whether there was withdrawal and that was the cause of some issues, because i had found that i was suffering all typical signs a few days later, but now those have passed i'm considering taking the tablets again and i'm not sure whether they'll help, or because i neglected to tell my gp of my cannabis use that i was mis-prescribed them, however from a young age i have always scrsathed at my scapl hard, bit my nails, chewed my top and other signs of anxiety, would it be worth trying to take them again? also i've only just realised this is a 9 year old thread and i'm probably just typing this as a method of procrastination from my work

I think yiu should tell your doctor what's going on and about your cannibis use. They won't judge you, they'll just have more info to help you. I started sertraline over a year ago at 25mg then upped to 50mg which took care of 90% of my anxiety, and just asked to up my dose to 75mg in hope of ridding it completely. Currently on my 3rd week at the new dosage and dealing with pretty bad anxiety from the mess. I'm also having suicidal thoughts, but not actually about killing myself just the thought that things are bad and that it's scary that I could understand how some people would turn to suicide when dealing with extreme anxiety. If your harming yourself or even considering it please tell someone. Anyone. Not just internet people, but a friend or better yet your doctor. This is 2017 and doctors have been helping people like you and me with this condition for years. Don't suffer in silence! I pray that you will get better.
