Hi there

I have just been prescribed setraline 50mg for mild depression and anxiety. Its only day two but i am having weird side effecst. Mainly very bad headaches as well as grinding of teeth. Can anyone tell me how long these effects last and is it worth sticking out?

Thanks!

good luck! i started yesterday and immediately had a dry mouth and headache all day, but it seems this might be 'normal' in the first few weeks

My anxiety eased off after 5 weeks. Takes a while for the side affects I still get side affects after being on them for a year or so. Hope It all goes well :-)

Thanks, would you say its worth sticking it out? The side effects that you have now, are they minor? I just have been a bit confused all day and a bit "fuzzy" I am scared these pills will make me zone out too much, all i really am looking for is to feel less anxious?

Each to their own I think, I gave it 5 weeks and thought if I dont feel better then im going back to gp and I gave them the benefit of the doubt and I feel a little better.

Hi Dan, the drug effects everyone differently, I would stick with it as these side effects go away. How  long they last depends on the person, everyone is different. Good luck to you, it really worked for me when I needed it.

Hi dan  with regards to your side effects  they seem to be a common one along with diarrhea (which I have and have had for 3 to 4 weeks) have been on sertraline for 8 weeks now and I would say its definately worth sticking with it. Everyone is different and has different tolerances to this particular drug but if you read other posts we are all experiencing the same but you will also read that people do improve and feel much better. Try not to think of how long it will take as this may make you feel more anxious. Talk to your doctor if you have any serious concerns When I first went on them I was on 50mg  then put to 100mg within acouple of weeks thats when my side effects started so I was put down to 50mg and am currently on 25mg so it may be worth asking your doctor to lower the dose for a bit and see how you get on   hope this has given you some reassurance good luck and take care

Thanks so much for the reply. I have been told to take 25mg per day for twoo weeks, then will increase to 50mg. So my GP obviously is trying to ease me onto them. However, I did not expect the headaches, dark circles under my eyes and "busy" jaw! It seems these will go away with time soI will stick with it and see. Thanks again

Thanks you! I am on a low dose, 25mg for 2 weeks then up to 50mg. Still scary that this drug has these funny side effects, then again my actual anxiety was making me sick so I would rather stick it with the zoloft x take care
