Severe burning in foot 14 days after ankle surgery

Qin had ankle ligament repair surgery after severe sprain. Had surgery 14 days ago today. Yesterday the cast was removed and got put in the attractive black ankle boot and told I could be weight baring. Seemed things were going well and I walked with the aid of a crutch a little around house. Well, I went to sleep around 11:30 pm. I have tried in vain to sleep on my back and just can't so I prompt pillows up and layer on my side and elevated foot as best I could. Got woken up at 4:00 am with excruciat BURNING all over foot. I tell you I've never felt pain like this before and that includes giving birth. It is now 5:45 am and I found this forum. Has anyone experienced this severe burning after surgery? I had a block during surgery Nd foot was numb for 48 hours and then it wore off I had some tingling and burning in my heel but that went away. Now this burning started. I tell you Imwas in tears and I'm a person that usually can handle pain. Please respond if anyone can enlighten me.

I don't know why you thought my post was that old because I wrote it a month ago. It certainly helps to know that others are experiencing the same issues. I got released for weight bearing yesterday but it hurts and is very scary. I've got to take it slowly. My husband and I had our cross-country road trip planned when this happened and we have forged ahead. We will be in Talent, Oregon tomorrow and I found a great physical therapist office that was able to squeeze me in on Thursday. I want a professional to show me the correct exercises to do on my own. I hope you feel better soon. By the way, my doctor said the crazy pain is from the nerves repairing and he said it could go on as long as three months. I didn't find that comforting so I know you won't either. I'll be praying for you and you do the same for me. God bless, Cat

Hi Jane wondering if your burning pain ever resolved? I had surgery a month ago and as of a week ago developed terrible burning in my toes and foot. It started as tingling and numbness. Also if you have any recommendations as to what to do to treat the pain thanks!

hi, mine took about 6 months to subside. I was advised to put cold packs behind my knees to prevent toe/foot nerve pain issues. I had a lot of electric shock sensations which did provide to be nerve damage but the burning does subside it just takes a while
I'm now 3 years in from my ankle fusion and walking like a human again 😃

Hi Julie thanks for the quick response. im really happy to hear it resolved for you! im reading that it could maybe never go away and that is upsetting so thanks so much for telling me. So i guess the ice behind the knee helped. thanks for the input!!

Hi, I Had flat foot reconstruction surgery 7 weeks ago and im dealing with numbness and burning on my foot. my big toe is really numb, its the toe they took the ligament from. MY foot is still very stiff. Sounds like a lot of what you experienced. I would love some feed back on how you are doing.

It's been almost two years since I broke my ankle and I'm thrilled to say that I am doing fine. I have a friend that just broke hers though, and I will share this site with her. She may need it. Thanks and God bless, Cat

Holy cow!! It sounds like you're situation was even worse than mine. I had two infections but I never had hard wear sticking out. It's been almost two years since my horror and I'm happy to say that I'm doing great now. My ankle will never look the same but I walk miles every week and don't experience pain much at all. I'm praying for you my friend. you will get through this. God bless, Cat

Thank you for your prayers. I broke it skiing, I am very active. I had ran 18 miles the week before the injury and had swam 4 miles, so this immobility is torture. I am very nervous to bear weight, was that a difficult experience for you? How was PT? Did you do what you were supposed to as directed? I really want to run again !
