Severe groin pain

Hi.. My sister is experiencing severe pain in her left groin area. She is in tears every night and no one seems to be able to help. She was in hospital for a week and underwent a MRI, CAT scan etc and still nothing. They say they can't find anything. It is constant in her left side. It used to go down her left leg also but not so much now. She says it feels like her inside are being pulled apart and when the pain eases her left side feels heavy. She has had a massage machine to see if it is muscle related with still no success. It started before Christmas 2012 and had stayed getting worse and worse. She can't take anymore. Can anybody help us???

WOW ! I have had mine since christmas eve, and continued to get worse. It is now feb 17th ! 2017, Been to Dr, had hip xray, severe pain in left groin/adductor muscle is what Dr's Dx is: wants me to start PT. I am in so much pain I do nothing but walk a little bit and have to lay down. My pelvis and hip /groin area feels like it will give out. its so scary ! Im a RMA, so I know about the Health Care Field. Patients get passed on from specialist to specialist ! I still have no answers other than that. The Dr will not orer an MRI or CT. The Xray was normal. I am 61. I had a complete hysterectomy so it is not related to ovaries, ,etc I am so sick and tired of the pain nothing helps, not ice, heat, rest NOTHING. when I can get up from laying or sitting there is a 'cilck' sound in near my crease in my left groin/thigh area. The Dr says the hip joint is trying to align. I hope you all find your answers, because I still have nothing but pain !

I had both hips replaced last year, groin pain in both.Groin pain in the left hip disappeared after the op, but the right groin pain continued.
Then, in January I had a fall, falling on the right side, and causing pain in the adducter muscle. When I had it x-rayed to see if I had damaged the new hip, the radiologist fiddled with my feet to align the leg, and the groin pain was there. When I told him, he said there was a big muscle which connected from groin area to feet (hope I got that right, please correct me if I didn't). Anyway, since the fall I have had no more groin pain so I put it down to the muscle.I am not suggesting that everyone have a fall to fix it, but it does indicate the muscle may be the problem in some cases. Hope this helps.

I had horrible right goin pain for years that traveled down my calf to my right ankle and right foot.
I found a good pain management doctor who gave me an injection - and it releived my pain.
I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never know why I have pain - but I am doing my best to eliminate it or at least make it tolerable.
If you go the pain management route make sure you get referred to someone good. The shots are only mildly unpleasant - I do not even notice them.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi, I'm Cindy, I am new to this forum. I too am experiencing this type of pain. For e it started in my right abdomen next to my hip. I saw my internist who sent me to a gastroenterologist. I told my gastroenterologist about it and she said it was from constipation, but I wasn't constipated. I went back 3 months later and she had me get an internal ultrasound which showed a tiny cyst on my right ovary that I had for years. My gynecologist said this wasn't the problem, which I agreed it wasn't. 7 months have passed with no diagnosis. Then in January I had my right ankle reconstructed which brought about complications, cellulitis and a second surgery. By now my side was so painful I saw my neurosurgeon who did 2 spinal fusions in my lumbar back. He said my back looked great, so I went to a surgeon to see if it was a hernia, nope, not that. He sent me to a sports doctor who sent me to physical therapy. I have been in pain for a year which is now involving pain around my hip, into my right buttocks, going into my lumbar spine, down my top thigh where it is on the right side of my knee. When I sleep I can't roll over without severe pain. I am 50 and was very active before all this. I want my health back. I am seeing an orthopedist on Thursday. I tried stretching it out and it made it hurt more. I have been resting it because I got a concussion April 15th, 2017 and have been in bed since then. I've reached such a level of pain I can't sleep. Nothing I do helps it. When I go to the doctor on Wednesday, May 17, I will report back to you Gamma and anyone else in this similar situation. Oh, and I did try physical therapy which made it worse. The p.t. said I had tendonosis because it has lasted so long. I feel like all the muscles, tendons and ligaments have pulled away and latched onto each other causing all to intertwine into one another. I just want a diagnosis so I can begin treatment. It is affecting every aspect in my way of life. I don't know if all this happened when I broke my left lower leg in 4 places (soccer). I was on crutches for a long time and in a boot for 6 months. I'm thinking I may have hurt it somehow then but because of the pain in my left leg, I ignored it. Well my doctor has his work cut out for him. If anyone else goes to a doctor always remember to write down every symptom, what you have tried and what will they do about it. Be confident and ask questions, after all, we need to know what the heck is going on with my body and all yours as well. I can't wait. I just want to get back to myself and get back into shape.
