Severe groin pain

Hi.. My sister is experiencing severe pain in her left groin area. She is in tears every night and no one seems to be able to help. She was in hospital for a week and underwent a MRI, CAT scan etc and still nothing. They say they can't find anything. It is constant in her left side. It used to go down her left leg also but not so much now. She says it feels like her inside are being pulled apart and when the pain eases her left side feels heavy. She has had a massage machine to see if it is muscle related with still no success. It started before Christmas 2012 and had stayed getting worse and worse. She can't take anymore. Can anybody help us???

I had and have same as original post in this thread describes. Diagnosis by last resort appointment with a neurosurgeon = hypermobile left sacroiliac joint. That was after seeing ortho MD, pain management DO, spine surgeon, a few phys therap. Once we started thinking of it like that, I had a correct dx because I had a cortisone injection to that joint and felt relief that day and going forward was able to do appropriate exercises. It still comes and goes. I was told no more forward bending yoga postures, stay off gliding type exercise machines, no skiing, etc. and to build up core muscles and stabilize abdomen.

    Hi gemms424,

Please go to a pain management doctor and ask him to inject your femoral nerve - not painful and noninvasive. That relieved my pain after 5 years.

    Good luck.

I will definitely push the doc for that.  Thanks.  MY first epidermal on L1 and 2 relieved my lower leg pain, knee pain and front thigh pain.  The second epidural on L3 and 4 aggravated the groin pain.  MAybe the cortisone fluid crowded the groin area.  A wild guess.  Next I'm having a cortisone injection into each thigh bursitis area.  Will report on results as I know the suffering other friends here are going through.

I see the original post was made 4 years ago, but I'm hoping people are still following.  I'm  53 year old male, and am experiencing severe groin pain.  almost crippling. It seems to get much worse in the summer months.  My prostate was removed 7 years ago.  I've been to emergency rooms and have had a series of tests in the past year.  X-ray, CT scan, ultra sound, cystoscopy, blood, stool, urine, hernia check.  Everything but and MRI which I'm hoping will be approved this week.  so far they've turned up nothing.  The best way to describe the pain is it feels like a sharp object stuck in my urinary track.  It always hurts, but the more I feel the need to urinate, the worse the pain gets.  The only thing that seems to help is to lay perfectly still all the time.  And again, it seems to flare up or become more inflamed in the summer months.  Anyone, please?

      This sounds terrible.

Did someone good check you for a hernia?

      They are tricky to find.

I have heard of 2 people having total hip replacement surgery - when they actualloy had hernias.

      Hope you find relief,

I am 36 year old female have had spinal issues, surgeries many knee and shoulder tears and injuries and about a year and a half ago I suddenly herd a click and extreme pain in the groin that would last only a few seconds and continued to do this multiple times a day all day. With research I figured out it had to be a Labral Hip Tear, and 6 months of this pain and agony it would get better with a week of bed rest but then start back up a few days later after being up and moving. Then the pain was a constant deep dull ache in the groin, the entire thigh stopping at the knee and a severe sciatic like pain deep in the bottom of my butt cheek almost near the tant area which was EXCRUCIATING when sitting or walking for a long distance! So I gave in and went to the doctor he had me get a MRI with contrast for both hips, pelvic and lower lumbar back area. Long story into a sort of Short story I had full lavral hip tear and femoral impingement as well as accelerated osteoarthritis and multiple osteophytes(bone spurs) and same thing was starting in the left side of hip as well with a partial tear and minimal impingement and a minimal degenerative changes. So saw Orthopedic Dr had a look at my films did a couple exams with my hip movement and legs and said well you are seeing the orthopedic surgeon next Tuesday and get ready to be told you have to have a   orthoscopic Labral hip tear repair  surgery with debriment and cleaningof the femoral head. No bearing weight on the injured/surgical side for 6-8 weeks then months of PT will see him in 2 days and I'll let you all know the final decision hope this helps some of you

I see this was posted 5 years ago, but when I read the first sentence, I had to write.  This is my first time, by the way.  I came on line to see if I could get some help or answers.  I too am suffering from severe groin pain.  I can barely do my job and have to stand most of the time.  I have seen several doctors, had x-rays, CT scans, MRIs and an ultrasound yesterday.  Nothing shows up anywhere.  Today, I think I may have found an answer.  it is called    ilioinguinal nerve entrapment.  Look on Google.  I was amazed at how all my symptoms matched all the comments.  I sent the info to my spine doctor, but haven't had a response yet.

      Hi Jeannette,

Sorry to hear you're suffering from this pain. I was diagnosed with Meralgia Paraesthetica (Same thing?). It took months to diagnose, and meanwhile I was in constant agony.

Sadly, in all these years its diagnosis is still delayed. Doctors consider it a rare condition.

The good news is that if it is that, an ultrasound guided injection into the nerve takes a few minutes to do, and a couple of weeks to work.

      Hope you feel better.

Thank you for the quick response.  I can't believe how many are suffering from this and get no answers.  Two weeks ago, I spent 8 days in the hospital and was sent home with Oxycodone and no answers.  I am waiting for a phone call from "Pain Management" to get a shot in the spine.  That's my second problem.  I am hoping the two are connected and a spinal epidural will help.  I am just so tired of hurting and crying.  Yes, crying.  I am 69 years old and feel like a baby sometimes.  People just don't understand how excruciating the pain is. On a happier note, I am going on my very first cruise next month.  Hope I get some relief before then.

I hope you are feeling better as well.  Have a wonderful day.

I am having the same symptoms.  I am in my mid 60s, I have been told that it it is most likely sciatica since nothing is showing up. I have been told that acupuncture may work for me and be a cure. I haven't tried it yet but I'm thinking of making an appointment. I've been through  Chiropractic therapy, medical therapy, tried different medications  as well as muscle relaxer and and anti-inflammatories

hey, she's not alone I have this as well, same thing no tests showing any problems, Drs says it's all in my head and I fired him, no doctor can tell me what it is and just blows me off, mine is spreading down to the bottom of my legs now as Well, started in left groin and down inside leg to above the knee in the back of the leg I can feel lumps but only when it hurts. Check for lumps if she has any push for a biopsy. I see your post was 5 years ago please let me know if you figured it out and if she has any other symptoms like breathing issues.
