I am glad to hear others talk about this my Dr says it's normal with dietetic. Thanks I'll keep reading and I will try some of suggestions I have tried to if water not sure if it help at all.

Swallow down a tablespoon of yellow mustard the minute you feel the twinge of pain. Within minutes it stops the spasm

Really? I wonder what is the magic potion inside of mustard that remedies this issue.

Has anyone here tried my non- pharmaceutical method for releasing the spasms using pressure? It seems everyone is looking for a pill or trying to all kinds of diets and supplements etc when NOBODY in the medical profession has a clue so far what the cause is. I would think a rapid cessation of the spasms would be of interest to at least a few. I guess not. Oh well, I tried.

I think most of us are trying to find a way to stop them from happening in the first place. As for me, I'm by myself so I have no help doing anything when this happens. All I can do is lay perfectly still and hope that it won't go full force. I've certainly thought about what you said but it's not something possible for me to do.

Hi, I have cut out a piece from a magazine from a guy who went to Boot Camp and was told that when this happens to stretch out the muscle and to clench your fists at the same time.  The clenching of a muscle elsewhere can release the affected one.

I get cramps in my feet nearly every night several times, and I curl my foot upwards and clench my fists and it goes away.  (I need to cut my finger nails tho coz it hurts my palms).  Anything is worth a try.

I have had these attacks about 6 times so far and two even in the hospital for unrelated issues- once a doctor was in the room and even he had no clue what to do. When the nurses finally answered the call button, they got the ace bandages and did what I explained (between firmly gritted teeth) Within about 5 minutes after the last tug on the Ace wrap, the cramps began ti quickly diminish. I left it on for about an hour to be SURE the episode was over.

I’m not sure If your issue is the same that I’m having. When I have my issue, it’s only painful when I’m trying to walk on the affected leg, otherwise no excruciating pain, just minor zaps or twinges that are tolerable.

Those pains sound more like a type of Charley horse. The thigh pain we are experiencing is excruciating and can start suddenly even when the person is sleeping and the legs are completely relaxed. The pain can easily bring tears.

Thank you for this suggestion. I will try what you have posted. I try to stand up and walk around. This happened today at my son's counseling session. I think the worst of it lasted about five minutes. The more i walked around, the less the cramp hurt. The pain is unbelievable unless you have experienced it before. Take care.
