I also suffer from these much more frequently recently. Mine were primarily in my calves but have become much more frequent on my lower legs above the ankles on the outside of leg. if you feel the pain coming and try to strech it immediately intensifies. Theres nothing that i know that will stop it from coming on. I have taken teaspoons of mustard, tonic water and pickle juice which all seem to work but must be used in combonation with bengay or minut-rub or something like that. Pain will go away but usually takes 10 minutes or so for you to feel the muscles start to relax.Good luck to everyone who suffers from this.

I get those too above the ankles on the outside.  The only thing that helps me is to get up and walk it out.  Stretching doesn't do any good.  I asked my physical therapist about it and she said there was nothing I could do about that.  She said it was the Achilles.

My spasms are directly in the quads & have to be massaged deeply or a rolling pen has to be use on it to loosen the muscle that has tightened and will not release.

I get thigh spasms but they have always been inner thigh.  Your spasms don't sound too good either.

Woke up again today with horrible excruciating muscle pain in front of my shin & front upper thigh. Was so bad I cried for a good 10 minutes.

I thought they would never go away.Passing out would be a blessing when these happen because they are so unbearable.

I found out this is related from nerve being pinched in back from degerative disk. Unfortunate that doctors suggest surgery but I continue PT & getting massages.

I have DDD too (even though my new pain specialist says theres no such thing) so hes an idiot..anyway.. that makes sense. I don't want surgery either. If it doesn't work, we could be messed up for life!

I am convinced we have to work on this problem with nutrition and diet plus balms, oils and stretching. I feel for you and everyone here. I know all too well the agony of these spasms.

Have other people had this kind of nerve damage in the spine? I used to have awful backache but after doing pilates it went away and hardly bothers me now. It has got me wondering if nerve damage has occurred though causing the monster cramps.

I got another thigh cramp last night that was excruciating .  I had a really stressful day at work.  Now this morning I'm wondering if stress can bring them on.  I'm going to pay attention to this.

Quick note... but I've had these for months and accidentally found a cure for mine--- Unisom. Something in antihistamines can stop spasms ! Try it!

I'm happy to hear that Unisom works for you! I've been taking 50 mg of Benadryl (antihistamine) every night for the past 5 years and it has done nothing to alleviate my inner thigh cramps.

I'm so sorry! Can you try unisom in case it's the diff type of antihistamine that helps?  Ugh, spasms are horrid.. and the nocturnal thigh ones are the worst. Good luck !
