Sex after hip replacement...

Hello
A little embarrassed to be asking, I have done some research but figure if I really want to know then this is probably the best place to ask with regards to sexual positions that are ok and safe without risking a new joint....
I have read that there are some positions especially for women that are more of a no no is that just being over cautious...?
Also eeeekkkk I am going to ask this here because quite frankly i have no idea where else to ask without feeling mortified but is anal sex also safe after a hip replacement.....there whew said it! Any information will be appreciated. Thanks xxx

I covered this in my website, there was a study done to see which positions were less strain on the hips for both men and women with hip replacements ... you need the 'Long Term Recovery' page.
The address is in my personal info here ...

and at the bottom of the moderator's "useful resources" page at

No embarrassment needed, we all like to do a little jiggle from time to time.
Best wishes

Infection should be no problem - as long as the wound has healed up.
The big watchword is caution. No swinging from chandeliers, just make sure your partner knows to stop if you say "STOP", then re-adjust yourselves.and have another go.

Just goes to show, there's nothing you cannot ask here and you know you will get good sensible replies.
Anal's not 'our thing', but there really should be no more risks of infection after THR than before as long as the wound is sealed under a waterproof dressing or healed over properly as it should be once the dressing is off. Closed wound = OK.
