hi everyone. i have posted quite a bit of discussions but this one will be explaining my mono experience as a whole and if you can relate great, please comment some reassurance or similar symptoms. i’m 19, always in good health, until In october 2017 i got plagued with mono. i had the classic fever, sore throat, achiness, weakness, and fatigue. I thought the nightmare would end but i truly never felt better after that.

my symptoms with chronic ebv have been:

-nerve pain all over body (tingling, shooting pains, jolts)

-back pain

-neck pain and pressure

-sensitive scalp

-ringing in ears

-mouth sores/bleeding painful gums

-on and off sore throat

-sharp pains in lymph nodes

-rib pain

-heaviness in rib/chest area

-to the bone FATIGUE

-dry eyes

-extreme health anxiety

-one bout of mild oral thrush

i have been a hypochondriac since birth. i suffer very bad ocd. i convinced myself this is cancer or hiv (even though i have negative tests). i am BAFFLED how little doctors know about chronic ebv and their is barely any cut and dry info about it online. It’s like a chronic condition only those suffering understand and is very lonely. It’s very easy to let our anxiety wander and make us think this is something more sinister. anyways, please comment your symptoms of chronic ebv. use this forum to vent! i need to read experiences of others.

    Hello all,

I'm so glad I found this forum the last few months have been hell for me.

It started out with tonsilitus that sort of went on it's own, then followed with extreme fatigue and fever around a couple of days after. Because of covid-19 I had a test thinking that may be the cause of my illness but tests kept coming back negative. I had contacted and seen doctors numerously which only ended up with antibiotics and continuous misdiagnosis's. I was only just diagnosed with having glandular fever a few weeks ago after around 4 months of feeling very unwell and made to think it was anxiety.

My symptoms are changing all the time and having to contact doctors again due to abdominal pains now and a constant sore throat.

I had a sore throat, chest pain that was diagnosed as costochondritis.

    -headaches

    -stiff neck

    -fatigue

    -sore throat

    -chest pain

    -abdominal pain (new)

-aches in thighs and hips (this is new)

    -anxiety like no tomorrow

I've rang my doctor and am expecting a call today at some point as I've read about complications of ebv and am worried about hepatitis or inflammed spleen. So hopefully they listen and help.

    Hi everyone,

Wow I am so happy I found this space. So many of these things have happened to me but I just chalked it up as nothing. My backstory is that back in January of this year I went to urgent care for a swollen gland or lymph node on my right side (I've had this before). The doctor tested me for a host of things including mono and EBV. My EBV test showed normal IGM but EBV ICG was through the roof (both VCA AB and nuclear AG, 300+ and 400+ respectively). Over the next week it became the worst ear infection I ever had. I think the last time I had an ear infection it was when I was a kid. The ENT drained my ear as I had a ton of fluid build up and I lost my hearing out of that ear for a little while and still feel it today. Prior to that I had to get lump removed from my breast that was suspicious but the tests proved it was benign. I've also had a upper respiratory infections that lasted me for months and the last one the allergist diagnosed me with cough variant asthma even though I never had it before. These infections are a common occurrence.

I am writing because I've developed a weird lump in my left armpit a few weeks ago which came and left. During this time I developed some flu like symptoms but no fever. Then this week out of nowhere a weird painful lump behind left earlobe is there and some of the pain is reminiscent of what happened back in January. I'm not sure if this and the prior ear infection was a EBV thing or what, but this is all very strange to me. I don't ever recall having mono so this test result came as a surprise. I believe I may have been tested in the past but this is first time I have seen reports on my ICG levels. Not sure if anyone else had any similar experience but like you I have had anxiety around cancer (especially with the breast cancer scare now). I'm just tired of being sick all the time. Thanks for reading

      Hi

My first symptom was a lump at the back of the ear which I am sure was a lymph node. It took two weeks to recede. Still battling with symptoms after 5 months.

When my symptoms started, I too had a lump on my ear but more at the top near my hairline. I have many bouts of swelling now including feet and legs. I have been suffering with this illness for almost two years. The worse part is the fatigue and pains in arms. I occasionally get a sharp almost like electric current pain deep in my head which I looked up and says most likely from inflammation and not to worry. I hope you heal faster than I did! I'm 47 and still struggling!

It's really good to be in touch with people who understand how awful this illness is! Thank you for posting. Will we ever get better?!

    Hello,

I am glad to have stumbled across this forum and I too have been struggling with this illness for quite sometime and feeling frustrated! All the symptoms you have listed are very similar to mine. I will explain how mine started. I became sick in early 2019. I was working fulltime and under a lot of stress (my job is high stress). I was extremely tired, pains generating down my arms and had a constant low grade fever. My doctor finally tested me for EBV and I was diagnosed with it. My job allowed me to work from home which was wonderful. In the beginning, I had the fever, pains, rash, and my feet and legs would swell. After dealing with this for so long , I took some time off work and went for other testing. Everything was negative and was convinced I too had cancer. My doctor kept prescribing an antiviral drug which I believe did not do very much. She continues to run the EBV blood panels which all come back high but advised it's showing I have antibodies which is good.

As of April 2020, the fever finally left and I felt like I was back to my old self (healthy 47 year old). In the last month, I became sick again with similar symptoms along with cough , sneezing, etc. I was convinced I had Covid which came back negative. I have extreme fatigue again and need to sleep every couple hours. I was on two strong antibiotics, steroids, inhaler and antiviral drug again and although some symptoms have subsided, I feel like I have EBV again. I met with an allergist this past Thursday and she ran the EBV test along with a CBC and also tested for allergies. It came back very minor for pollen and ragweed. I decided to take a few weeks off work to try and fight this again, but I am very frustrated. I think my job is starting to think I am making things up although they have been wonderful!

My eyes hurt and arms... tired of feeling so sick. I have started taking vitamin D and a daily multivitamin, but wondering if there is something else I could try. I truly believe people think that I may be exacerbating a bit because there are times I look healthy and able to function as normal, but then it will hit me like a ton of bricks. Even last night, went out to dinner and felt fine. By the time the meal was over 9:00 pm, I was ready to fall asleep. I also took a nap before going out. I got home and fell asleep within minutes of laying on the bed. I sleep on average about 10 hours a day and still tired...ugh! Anyway, I should hear back from the allergist tomorrow with the results from my blood work and maybe I'll have answers or maybe not which seems to be the new normal! My primary care doctor seems to be at a lost too! I am glad to know I am not the only one suffering from this virus/disease and really hope they can do more research so we can have answers along with treatment options. Take care and hope my story can help others to not feel alone or crazy, as well!

I can completely identify with worrying what people think because you can appear healthy and normal but then collapse when you get home. The evenings are definitely the worst.

I am still unwell after 7 months. Every night my throat gets swollen and sore. I wake up in the middle of the night extremely thirsty with a high heart rate and sweating. I have to drink loads of water and don't go to the toilet more than normal.

I am so desperate to be well again.
